Chapter 201: [AT] Four Witnesses...
[After Transition]
"Ok, let us see then. Using the same code as the one we used before, it says 'The Hellfire's Grudge Is Settled', whatever that means." I tell them to which Harvey nods his head for some reason while the rest of the room tries to digest what I have just said, while others try to make sense of what was just said two people in particular react to what I have just said with them being Shaun Masters and Karina Tate who both lean in with shock as Shaun Masters and Karin Tate both say something. "Th-The hellfire's grudge? Could it be? The pianist Aaron Kane who burned himself to death twelve years ago along with his family?" They say linking the words with the fire that happened twelve years ago, someone else at the back of the room understands what they mean and hops onto the bandwagon drawing the attention of everyone in the room to himself. "Yes, it is him. I knew it, he is alive. My god, AARON KANE IS ALIVE!" Kyle Newman shouts at the top of his lungs stumbling back in his shock with his face stretched into a mortifying anguished grimace while the sweat begins to pour down his head as if he had a miniature water fall hidden behind his hair line and his eyes have become big and wide in fear with his pupils dilating at the thought that Aaron Kane had risen from the dead, thankfully before anybody in the room could take any notice of his nonsense (maybe it isn't nonsense and he has risen from the dead, I mean stranger things have happened) the local police officer being the old man who really has no business being involved in this investigation opens the front door and seeing what Kyle Newman was shouting in his panic he intercedes.
"Absolutely ridiculous, Aaron Kane is not alive. I was there that day when I was a lot younger and fitter and the corpse, we found in the ruins matched his dental records. That corpse was definitely him, there is no doubt about it. Everything was burnt to the ground including him and his family, all that remained was the sheet music stored inside Aaron Kane's fireproof safe." The old officer says shocking everyone in the room with the mention of sheet music which has been very prevalent in the ongoing investigation which everyone else also picks up on and I myself begin to put some things together in my head with this new information, Detective Harvey Bullock also picks up on this new information and finding a new path of investigation he quickly latches onto it moving towards the old police officer and asking him to expand on the sheet music. "Sh-Sheet music, did you say? Where is it, where is this sheet music right now!?" Harvey asks getting more heated and getting right into the face of the old police officer and staring straight into his eyes through his circular old man glasses but even with Harvey being this close and basically breathing into his mouth the old man doesn't even blink and still remains calm even with (I am assuming) the breath stinking of alcohol in his face, everyone is now staring at the old man and he remains absolutely still but I realise that this old man doesn't have balls of steel when he starts to stutter and he was just shocked still by the fact a big heavy set man like Harvey Bullock in his face along with all the people in the room paying him there undivided attention and pinning him with their glares. "Th-The sheet music is in the community centre's safe, because we thought it would be right for it to be there for anyone who wants to play the piano Aaron Kane donated. I think I have the keys at the substation, I can go and get them if you want?"
"Then what the hell are you wating for, huh? Hurry up and bring them here, now!" Bullock shouts straight into the old police officer's face with spittle flying everywhere which startles the old man into action as he immediately turns around and runs out the way he came stumbling down the stairs nearly falling but he manages to catch himself and runs off to get the keys while giving Harvey a 'yes sir' and he starts to run off into the night or maybe it would be better to call it a jog as the guy is pretty old but I'm sure he's running to the best of his abilities, I quickly realise that this might be my opportunity to learn more about the previous incidents and Aaron Kanes's death since this old police officer was apparently on scene and so I immediately run off after him shouting some words to Harvey as I run out the building. "I am going to go with him Detective Bullock, make sure we get everything. I will come back later, after I get that sheet music." And so it is a few minutes later that myself and the old police officer are walking down a quiet dark path towards the substation because after running to the best of his abilities for a while the old man finally realised that Harvey wasn't here to breath down his neck or witness him slowing down plus he probably thought that the murder had already been committed so there was no reason to rush but of course this old man had just entered the building and didn't find out that the current mayor Karl Tate was just murdered so he mustn't see a reason to rush, and to be honest it is better like this so that I can question this old man as we walk to the substation and get more information to add to this jigsaw puzzle that is slowly but surely starting to come together in my head and I have a feeling that this old man knows something that might just help me see the big picture.
"Hey so you were there all those years ago, did Aaron Kane really set his own home on fire?" I ask the old police man whose name I still do not know but I don't care about that at the moment and I'd rather focus more on gathering more information than getting caught up in introductions since I doubt that I'm ever going to meet this old man ever again so why would I waste time trying to know him which is why I've immediately started to just question him, once the old man slowed down and caught his breath I started questioning him since I didn't want to question him while he was running and get drawn out response from him like Stevie from Malcom in the Middle and I can't waste that much time which is why I am glad he slowed down otherwise I would have had to make him stop just so I can get some answers. "Yeah, well at least according to the witnesses. The witnesses were the previous Mayor Kingston, the deceased Kevin Hale, the current Mayor Karl Tate and Kyle Newman who was just freaking out, and now two of them are dead and the other two, well you've seen them." He tells me and I realise the fact that this old dude still doesn't know Karl Tate is dead which would mean that three of the four witnesses are now dead apart for Kyle Newman which would explain why he freaked out but it doesn't explain just how much he freaked out which must mean there is something else going on there that involved the four of them and with three of them dying to the supposed curse it only makes sense that they were targeted for that specific reason, I know mostly about the other guys and can find out more about them as two of them are recent murder victims which will be investigated thoroughly and the other is alive but I don't know a thing about the previous Mayor Kingston who has been dead for like two years and it seems like I will have to dig up information on him since it seems like his was the first murder in a series of murders. and I also need to find out more about that fiancé of Karina Tate whose name is Mathew Shaw since he looks pretty suspicious so I asked the old police officer about him.
"Mathew Shaw huh, that guy actually came to this island about three years ago. He actually just got engaged to Mayor Tate's daughter Karina Tate just the other day, sadly a few short days later and we have all been struck by tragedy." The old man tells me which is interesting but isn't very incriminating although the deceased Mayor Tate was apparently quite wealthy and with him dead once Mathew shaw marries the daughter he could have access to all that money and then maybe even kill her but then why would he kill Kevin Hale, maybe Kevin Hale was killed by someone else who probably murdered the previous mayor two years ago and Mathew Shaw took advantage of it to kill Karl Tate and blame it on the murdered but that doesn't make sense either since there was a message with Karl Tate's body and the same code worked for it as well as the music sheet next to Kevin Hale's body though Michael Shaw did turn up three years ago so he could have killed all of them but I don't see a motive to kill them all so I should start to spread my search around and so this time I ask him about the mayors secretary Harold. "Secretary Harold is a strange fellow, very unusual guy. I do not know what he was doing but I often saw him secretly meeting with the deceased mayoral candidate Kevin Hale at the community centre, it was often late at night and quite suspicious but it wasn't illegal to meet up at night and so I ignored it." That is interesting it is almost as if he was doing something bad and if I remember correctly Kevin Hale was winning because Karl Tate was being protested against because of some bad deals he made that affected the fishing in the area or something so maybe that was the secretary Harold being bribed and giving Kevin Hale information to help his campaign, probably a bit illegal using his position like that but I don't see any relevance to the murders so I can ignore it and again ask about someone else and this time I ask about the other mayoral candidate Shaun Masters.
"Shaun Masters is a respectable man, not a lot of people would say anything bad about him. I suppose his only flaw would be that he is a bit short-tempered, nothing wrong with that but I am unsure if such a man is suited for the position of mayor which needs someone calm and stable to help this town prosper." he finishes and at this point we have reached the substation meaning I will have to delay anymore question as he gets the key he needs to find so we can get that sheet music , so we both head inside the substation for the key which will help unravel this murder mystery...
