Chapter 151: Improvement
Such a beautiful day outside. Birds are singing, flowers are blooming... A good day for relaxation, yet-
"Mu Yue! You have to be better than that to catch me off guard!" Zhi Li shouted as he parried a slash coming towards him with just a stick reinforced with his spiritual energy.
The two of them are in the forest. It has been a month since Mu Yue started to learn under her father. Zhi Li already taught her how to sense and respond to unexpected attacks. Now, he is teaching her how to do these attacks against an opponent.
Mu Yue also learned how to sneak and avoid being discovered. Now, she needs to learn how to use these to her advantage in battles.
She had been observing how Zhi Li did his sneak attacks on her. She thought that imitating these would be a good starting point to learn.
"I've learned from you, father. However, it seems to not be enough." She replied while running back to the trees to hide.
Zhi Li nodded, "That is a good thing. But if I get defeated from an imitation of what I do, wouldn't that be too shameful? Still, I commend you when you decided to hide instead of trying to launch a second strike."
He then closed his eyes and murmured, "She already learned how to perfectly conceal her energy, what a talented child."
The rate of Mu Yue learning what he taught was faster than the best person from the batches of people he had seen. It surprised him, nevertheless, he never told her that. He doesn't want that to become a reason for Mu Yue to give less effort.
Suddenly, an icicle went towards Zhi Li's location. He managed to grab it in time before it reaches his face. He was about to break it when the icicle exploded, sending small particles of ice to his face.
He then heard Mu Yue's giggles. He looked at the direction of the sound and found Mu Yue going out of her hiding spot.
"I won the game, father." Mu Yue smiled as she successfully caught his father off-guard. The winning condition was to hit Zhi Li's body, the only exemption was if he blocks an attack with an arm or a leg.
Zhi Li wiped his face. "It does not count."
"What? Why?" Mu Yue asked. It was clear that it was a clean hit.
"Can this even be categorized as a hit or an attack?" Zhi Li said but he just won't accept that he lost because of being careless. He guessed that the attack was purposedly made like that by Mu Yue as sending Ice Shards from the explosion, may or may not cause some harm to him.
Mu Yue became sad, showing a pitiful look, "But it's a hit... It touched you! It would have been my first win..."
She walks forward, like a child about to cry to her parent. Zhi Li softened up, he was about to comfort her when he felt a pointy object at his back.
"This should count, right?" Mu Yue looked up. The pitiful look switched with a smiling face although with some tears that have yet to dry up near her eyes.
It took a while for Zhi Li to register what happened. He then stared at Mu Yue, "Really? Like this..."
"Mhm, I won!"
"Isn't that quite a dirty tactic?"
"I won!"
"Where did you learn how to do that?"
"Xiao Yan"
"I should've expected that." Zhi Li sighed. Mu Yue learns even more faster from Xiao Yan than him.
"So what do I get? What reward or something?" Mu Yue asked excitedly.
Looking at Mu Yue, Zhi Li just shrugged, "Nothing, I never said anything."
"B-but, what's the point of winning?"
"I could see that you improve if you win... though not on what happened earlier."
"Ok..."
Zhi Li then just couldn't handle when Mu Yue act like this and gave her the best reward, "Fine... Since you 'Improved', taking a day off would not harm you."
Mu Yue brightened up, "You mean it?"
"Yes"
"You won't take it back?"
"I co-"
"Thank you very much, father!"
Without wasting any time, Mu Yue quickly ran off to go back to their home.
"This child... Oh, she is still a child I forgot."
