Chapter 59: Awkward Staring Contest

Cathryn narrowed her eyes at the boys as she leered at them judgingly over her glass of fruit drink.

Trying to make them feel uncomfortable by her big shiny eyes, she reached over to the table, never taking her eyes of each of them, watching them like a hawk.

It was a well-known fact that people feel when someone's eyes were on them.

Let' say they were engrossed in their world and then that creepy, prickly feeling grabs a hold of you.

Like that feeling when you wake up from your sleep at three o'clock am because it felt like someone was in the same room with you and you can't see them at all.

Gaze detection was like an eerie sort of sixth sense so Cathryn used that as an advantage.

'Make them feel creeped out by your gaze that they leave this impromptu party early.'

Marco danced like a drunken idiot along with London who gave an unsolicited air guitar performance.

Good thing that he had the decency to stay on the ground because it looked like he was ready to jump towards the coffee table, making it his impromptu stage.

The table would probably crash in his weight and the food would be flying in all directions.

That would be Cathryn's worst nightmare because one thing everyone should know about her was that she didn't know how to cook and clean.

Cathryn could do them if she forced it, but the results would be ugly.

She didn't like to waste her time on trivial things instead of doing Art.

She got her priorities straight.

Cathryn would probably beat these guys up before banishing them out of their apartment--like how God cast Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden--if they create an unnecessary mess.

Jason sat on the living room couch across her, lost in thought as he absently picked at his beer label while Garred was busy laughing at memes on his phone.

Blake was at the kitchen at the moment as Edward gave him a tour of their apartment--even letting him inside their rooms, just checking things out.

Blake was that type of guest who was curious about everything.

Cathryn dipped the nachos on the mustard and shoved them in her mouth as she lasered in on Alexander.

Praying that she had unnerved him, she sat and leaned her head back on the couch, watching him with hooded eyes.

Alexander stood nine feet away from her but still his body angled towards her as he conversed with Justin.

Her gaze connected with Alexander's seductive light brown eyes.

Breath froze in her lungs, and everything around her receded.

Time slowed.

The music faded from her ears.

Her vision tunneled to this one man as sensual energy sizzled under her skin.

Cathryn rubbed at her arms, trying to rid herself of the odd sensation.

He smiled slowly.

Alexander still had this 'hit-by-lightning' effect on her and both of them knew it.

She was struggling not to look away as she pinned him with her intense gaze.

Cathryn started this so she would finish the staring contest herself.

He arched a brow and mouthing, "What's up?"

Justin stopped talking at Alexander, wondering what got his attention.

He looked over his shoulder and saw her,

Cathryn simply shrugged at the curious looks he threw at her.

"What is it, Cat?"

Cathryn shook her head in dismissal, stood up, and went to the kitchen, catching his other roommate's attention who was busy talking to Blake about his fancy cooking gadgets.

Poking him on the side, she whispered and glared pointedly at Blake to fuck off for a moment, "Ed, can we talk?"

"Okay." He replied and then said to Blake good-naturedly, "Go ahead, you have my permission to check every corner of this apartment."

Blake nodded, raising his hand to pinch her cheek as if acknowledging her existence. "Okay, I have your permission." He smirked and his light blue eyes twinkled in mischief before leaving them alone in the kitchen.

When Cathryn was sure Blake was out of earshot, she motioned for Edward to come closer as she leaned her body against the counter. "Edward." She started whispering, "Wouldn't the neighbors complain about the noise?"

"We are having a blast! Don't be such a Karen tonight, baby." Edward said with a half-grin as he tucked a stray strand of hair away from her face. "You are spoiling the fun."

Cathryn couldn't sleep with all these loud sounds but at the same time, she didn't want to ruin their fun.

It was like eight of them against one.

She already lost even if she fought for her side.

Mild Savagery wasn't here for her anyway.

They were here to party and have some fun.

She closed her eyes and clenched her fists, feeling trapped.

If only she could sleep on the streets just to get out of here.

Anyway, why did they have to play loud deep house club music in their apartment?

Could they just listen to smooth jazz music while they drink wine and play Monopoly?

This was Cathryn's definition of a party.

Not this crap.

A muscle ticked in his jaw, but he held up his hands and shrugged. "Do you want them out of the apartment then?"
