Chapter 28: Shield

I woke in my bed, my face feeling stiff. I pulled a hand out from under the blankets and raised it to my numb cheek. I could tell that my entire face was covered in a spiky layer of frost and my fingers were nearly numb with cold. I moved my hand to feel my hair and I found that it was frozen in thick ropes of ice, too.

I looked around, trying to control my shivering. I breathed fast and it sent clouds of steam out in front of me. Everything in my room looked slightly blue, but the deep chill was worse around my bed.

I find four pairs of eyes staring at me.

"Why are all of you in my room?" I said uncertainly as Raven summoned a huge sword out of thin air, hefted it in his hand thoughtfully. He took a few steps toward me.

He came closer while still holding the sword. "Isn't it bloody obvious?"

I got out of my bed in a flash, dragging my blanket unceremoniously to cover my nighties.
