Chapter 2: Testing for the Boarding School for Magic

A young boy with delicate features stood in front of a stall. His dazzling blue eyes and soft blond hair aroused the maternal instincts of the ladies who saw him.

This young boy was, in fact, Eva in her disguise.

"Uncle, is there anything that I can help you with for a pay?"

The man who Eva was talking to answered bluntly, "No."

Eva started tearing up and the ladies who saw this glared at the man. Under the cold gazes of the crowd, the man broke out into cold sweat.

"Erm, what do you need money for?" the man asked

"Um... I need it for living expenses. I was going to be sold to the slave traders by my guardians, so I ran away," Eva answered honestly.

The crowd immediately gasped. Who could be so vicious as to try to sell such a cute boy?

One of the young ladies in the crowd said, "I can adopt you!"

Another one said, "Me too!" More and more people in the crowd started voluteering themselves to adopt Eva.

Under the focused gaze of the crowd, Eva started panicking until the man yelled, "Stop it! Can't you see he's panicking?"

Eva glanced gratefully at the man who she referred to as "uncle." She said, "Um... I want to support myself with my own efforts." She looked up at the crowd with teary eyes. "Is that... not okay?"

The crowd froze for a moment before nodding fervently. They were too charmed by the "young boy's" cuteness.

One of the more sensible people within the crowd suggested, "If you want to support yourself, why not try to enter the Boarding School for Magic? If you pass the test, you'll be provided education and daily neccessities by the school. The test for it is going to start soon in the town square."

Eva's eyes lit up. "Really? Thank you, big sister!" Eva would be able to get stronger and wouldn't have to worry about her daily neccessities. To Eva, this was a huge opportunity.

The person who was thanked by Eva suddenly grasped her chest. "Kuh! I think I'm going to die from cuteness!"

Eva worriedly asked, "Big sister, are you okay?"

Another person standing nearby assured Eva. "Don't worry, she's fine. She's just... well, nevermind."

Eva sighed in relief. "Okay, then. I'm going to head over to the town for the test!" Eva waved her hand and left.

When the crowd saw the "young boy's" figure leave, they started discussing "him." The person who grasped her heart earlier said, "I think I just saw an angel..."

"Yeah, me too..." the lady who reassured Eva said.

The young ladies in the crowd looked at each and came to a silent agreement to protect this little angel.

Unaware of this fact, Eva cheerfully went to the town square to take the test.

------

When Eva arrived at the testing site, there was only a small line in front of a desk with a crystal ball and a young man in a robe. Written on a board next to the table was, "Testing Site for the Boarding School of Magic."

Because Eva had taught herself to read and write, she could understand that this was her destination.

When it was her turn, the tester said, "Place your hand on the crystal ball and don't take it off until I tell you to."

Eva nodded in reply to the testor's instructions and placed her hand on the ball. The crystal ball glowed a bright white.

The testor looked surprised for a moment, but quickly regained his calm and announced the results. "Pass. Non-attribute."

Eva asked, "Is this good or bad?"

"Non-attribute isn't very powerful and has limited spells. It's just a pity that you're so talented..."

"Oh..." Eva replied dispiritly. Did that mean that she wouldn't be able to become extremely strong?

The people who saw Eva's downcasted appearance immediately tried to comfort her.

"Don't worry! As long as you try hard, then you'll get stronger."

"Yeah, yeah! Anything is possible!"

Eva, encouraged by these voices, brightened up and smiled.

"You're right! Thank you very much!"

Another group of people, once again, fell victim to Eva's cuteness.
