Chapter 5: 5. Solace?

My dad had wrapped me in his arms for close to an hour occasionally dosing. Davon was seated on my couch, at some point he had been awake but now he was fast asleep.

You're doing too much. One of the voices said. I struggled out of my Dad's embrace, causing him to almost fall, luckily he opened his eyes in time.

My mom was seated at the edge of my bed, "Please go. Go get some rest." I said as though it wasn't already past 5.

"We..." My mom starts.

"I'm okay. Just go, D's here." I tried to convince them, Davon's eyes were wide open now but his head still rested on the armrest.

My mom was about to protest again when my dad kissed my forehead and dragged her out. I heard them whisper as they closed the door.

I felt the bed dip and suddenly I was pulled into his arms, "I was just thinking...you may have bipolar." For Davon to say something that didn't carry a trace of humor in it was hard and him saying this made me realize that maybe I should've said something before now, maybe he would've understood.

"I found out a few weeks ago." In the weeks since I found out, it had been hell or maybe hellish but it had definitely been along the line.

He rubbed my arms tenderly, years before now, I hated anything that had to do with physical contact, it just made my skin crawl but now it seemed my mind depended on it to survive.

"The reason why I was at the hospital was that I had a seizure attack." I quickly spill before I talk myself out of it.

"I'm not mad at you for not telling me." I held my breath for what he had to say next.

"I'm sad that you had to suffer it alone. I know first-hand how messy it gets, I feel like I should've been your person."

A smile slowly made its way to my lips, "You've always been my person. I just didn't know if I wanted that side of me out there."

"Now, you're going to drink this, lie down and sleep. A few hours of peace is guaranteed." He said, handing me my sedative and a glass of water.

I usually had a problem with sedatives, they never work but the recent ones have proven to be really strong.

I do as instructed, Davon kissed my cheek and sat beside me. Only when I started to drift off did he get up.

Davon Matthew, my very own best friend, a man I have come to love and adore was once a promising kid with a bright future until his hometown was attacked. A scar running from the side of his neck to his back was one of the many reminders he left that place with.

Sometimes I pitied him, how do you enjoy so much peace one minute and then suddenly all you are handed are big piles of sorrow? Why can't we even stop the hand of time, freeze the moment and savor it as much as we want?

"Goodnight D." I whisper. I concluded that he didn't hear me when he didn't reply only for him to let out a chuckle, I smiled and closed my eyes again.

The voices were no longer there, at least for now. It was just me my thoughts and the peace that I had no control over anymore.

I heard my door open but I was too far gone to move a muscle.
