Chapter 2: Chapter 1 The end all be all

Thomas and I first met when we were 17.

He was a jock and I was a cheerleader. This sounds like some cynical TV show but that would mean that it's perfect and my story is far from that.

He proposed on prom night. We graduated as an official couple. But we ended up going to different colleges because he wanted to be a professional football player and I wanted a more serious job like a lawyer or an accountant. Something stable.

Around 7 months in we were still in contact and happily in a long-distance relationship. He would take flights down and whisk me away on surprise dates now and then. It was amazing! We even wrote passionate love letters & postcards as you see it in the movies. That time feels like a distant dream now *sigh*

Then the incident happened.

After about 9 months into his college football career, he had torn his ACL. The doctors told him it would take months to fix and even then it might not be fully healed. Thomas was determined though, he waited out its healing process with me at my college upstate. I would go to class and come back and take care of him every day for 5 months until it healed and then went back more passionate than ever. Football was his passion but I guess destiny had other plans for him. His ACL was never the same again. Injury after injury kept on occurring. He would have sprains, torn ligaments and even a broken his ankle a few times so eventually, he lost his scholarship and with that came the end of his career.

I could tell he lost a part of himself. The day he came to my College, he looked different. His aura, his attitude.  It had all changed. Darkened somehow.

Around a month into being at the new college, upstate with me, is when we started having 'issues' in our relationship. He would get easily irritated and frustrated and a spark became a flame and a flame became a fire. Then it happened; it was only once, but he hit me and I did provoke him...I think. He gave me a black eye. It took around two weeks to completely heal but I wore makeup so nobody would notice. As soon as he did it he apologised I knew he didn't mean it it was just that destiny has destroyed him. With the end of his career came the downfall of our relationship and soon to be the end fall of my happiness.
