Chapter 2: CHAPTER 2

"You can't just sneak your way inside, I'm on the couch Lily." Rachel's voice came out hoarse along with a fit of coughing, I sigh dropping off my keys on the counter sauntering over and sitting on the carpet.

"Where were you last night?" another fit of coughing I lean over laying my head against the linen cushion, taking a hold of her heating hand.

"I had to bring Finn back to his place, I'm sorry Rae. Would you want something to eat?" a small pout came to her lips as she pulled the duvet over her shoulder sitting up on the couch, sending a smile over and making her breakfast the roar of the television seemed to eliminate the deafening silence. The soft click of the keyboard and the static laughter from the television having heave a deep sigh.

"Rae, no working until you get better." taking away the laptop from the glass coffee table setting on the island counter where she couldn't reach, replacing it with a bowl of oatmeal and a cup of warm milk.

"I have a deadline to meet Lily, I can't just ignore that."

"Then I'll do it, right now you have to rest. Consider this a favor you can just treat me to dinner or something." a small giggle left her pink plush lips. It wasn't that big of a project that she needs to finish, but I admire her passion for it. The small details in her writing as she flourishes her article, a few more touches here and there and it was all done along with her meal. The soft voices from the television to the chilly breeze from the window, the warmth from the cup of milk she drank all putting her to a rest.

His voice seemed to drawl as it echoes in the room, the meeting drifting away as a light tap to my arm brought me back to the current dry meeting. A smile curling up to his face as he scooted closer, focusing more than I can on the meeting as his thumb runs over the expanse of my arm.

"You should try focusing next time Lily." the soft click of his pen beginning causing my string of patience to shorten, that smile I can't wait to slap it out of his face.

"I didn't need a commentary Finneas, can you get the door." the soft clicks of the keyboard, the sound of my heels scrapping the floor, the ringing of the phones in the firm, with a click of the lock it all becomes silent.

"Thank you for bringing me back to my place last night." the ever dashing boss I have now slumping back against his chair toying with the pendulum I got him when he got promoted.

"Isn't that just a part of my job Finn as your secretary?" he cocked his head to the side as I pour a glass of coffee, letting it set on his table as I arrange manuscripts.

"You're not just a secretary to me you know that." I sit back down resting my elbow on the glass table looking at his chair that was turned back at me, the red curtain of clouds slowly blanket the city as the moon shines steadily peeks out its light.

"Finn, I beg you no drinking tonight." he raised his arms to the air and kicked an invisible stone away.

The smell of chalkboard and fine oak, the buzzing lines of phones and fax machines. It was a mess, it was a busy mess. Small bumps here and there as I reach the end of the hall, collecting myself before tapping on the bell.

"You must be Ms. Dawson? I'll have the print ready." her steady monotone voice ignoring my faint one as she rushed away and checked dialing.

"The first office on the right turn, you can knock." before I could ask anything she turned away assisting more people who were packing in and out of the building, taking slow steps doing as I was told the first office to the right. Knocking on the door before as it opens, and there he stood.

"Ms. Dawson? Come inside I have the print ready for you please have a seat."

"Ms. Dawson has a cold she asked me to pick up her print here. I'm her roommate." he paused for a moment closing the door and ushering me to sit down, hanging my coat on the rack as I wait for him to come back. His voice was fruity despite the disheveled appearance, following his movements as he rummages through steel cabinets.

"I hope she's satisfied with the finished product as well as she gets better soon." handing over a large envelope peeking inside of it.

"That smile means it's good?" snapping my eyes away as faint heat rush up to my ears, receiving a small chuckle from him.

"I didn't quite get your name." gently placing the print out back inside as I set it on the wooden table, pressing softly as not to create any creases.

"Michel, Lily Michel." the noise outside gradually growing louder his eyes boring into mine as if afraid to lose a contact.

"Well, Ms. Michel a pleasure meeting you. Harper, Elliot Harper swing by anytime." the faint smell of acrylic and ink the soft lingering feel of his lips on my knuckles, a rather old and curt ending to a strange beginning.
