Chapter 24: Chapter 23 – Hero Raid

For the following months, I fell into a routine, which consisted of analyzing and tracking Knockout (I still found it immensely ironic how they were using Knockout to track Kockout), sometimes participate in hero raids where they needed someone who could identify quirk instantly and vigilantism at night.

Speaking of Hero raids, during one of them was a little revelation.

Flashback: Hero Raid

Raiko's POV

I was invited to a hero raid against a gang that sold drugs and weapons and offered "escort" services. The usual really, the only reason I was invited was that they had almost no information on them or their quirks and they supposedly had pretty powerful quirks, so they wanted me with them to identify their quirks and tell them the weaknesses.

Of course, my safety was guaranteed, there would be no risk for me, etc. The same thing as always, it wasn't the first time I had done this. Although, this time, the heroes participating in the raid were quite interesting, as there were a few high-ranked one like Edgeshot (currently ranked 6th), Shishido (ranked 13th) and some others like Eraserhead, Vlad King and Snipe. Obviously, they were expecting a lot of resistance coming from the villains or were ready for the unknown.

Back to the raid, I followed the heroes to the warehouse, a bit behind them and accompanied by the sidekick who was tasked with my protection, it wasn't necessary, really, even without quirks I was extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat, but they insisted, so…

We stood before the warehouse and we went through the plan one last time. Shishido would burst through the door, and while they would be surprised, Edgeshot, Vlad King and Snipe would take everyone out. Then we would proceed further into the warehouse.

It was efficient, brutal, and it went perfectly. Pro Heroes were extremely efficient. It took them less than five seconds to incapacitate everyone in the warehouse, except the workers who obviously werent villains. We weren't very stealthy, though, but we had the building surrounded, they couldn't escape.

It was just a warehouse where they were packing drugs and counting money. On the surface. In reality, it was their headquarters if you continued further.

We continued further , descending a staircase which led us to a basement, who looked abandoned, with spiderwebs everywhere. Wait, there were way too many spiderwebs for it to be natural, but it was dark in there, and I'm pretty I was the only one who realized that the webs weren't natural, so I shouted:

"Stop! The spiderwebs aren't natural, it's the work of a quirk."

To prove my theory, I threw one of my knives at one of the webs, but it didn't cut it. On the contrary, it stays stuck on it, not even damaging the web.

Everyone stopped when they heard me and saw my knife failing to cut the spiderweb, and a sidekick asked:

"So, how to we pass?"

"Simple", Shishido answered, holding a flamethrower that I'm pretty sure he took/stole from one of his sidekicks, but who doesn't like to burn sh*t up.

"Jet, be ready to put out the fire if it gets too intense", he then asked another one of the sidekicks, who had a quite powerful water quirk named Geyser

Geyser (2234): Allows user to shoot a water beam from the palm of his hand.

After this ominous warning, he started to shoot fire at the spiderwebs, which quickly ignited.

We then continued our exploration of the warehouse, dodging a few traps but nothing particularly worrying, until we arrive near a room where I knew that, because of my finger-eyes, the villains were going to ambush us, but I said nothing, I wanted to see how they were going to react and "reveal" a second quirk of mine. I was still going to help them, though.

We entered and, as predicted, it was an ambush.

First, the spider villain launched some webs at us, hoping to restrain us, but a sidekick with a force field quirk reacted fast and protected us. Immediately after, hell broke loose. I used quirk vision to identify the villains and what I saw surprised me, they had some really interesting and powerful quirks. I warned them:

"The guy in the armor has a short-range metal manipulation quirk, the guy with the exposed elbows has a paralysis quirk if he can touch you with his elbows, even if you have armor, and the one in the black suit can transform himself into a giant, poisonous snake that can petrify you with eye contact. Also, the guy with blond hair has a powerful electricity quirk, he can launch thunderbolts from his finger tips."

The second to last really surprised me, it was a rare type of quirk named Basilisk. I would've loved to study him to see how it worked, but sadly I don't think they would let me do that. Maybe.

Basilisk (5129): Allows user to transform into an up to 10 meters (30 feet) long snake with a highly potent venom and that petrifies someone for five to ten seconds with eye contact.

There were also a couple of other villains, but nothing too dangerous or surprising/unusual, they all had pretty weak or common quirks.

The heroes took my warning seriously, and Edgeshot attacked the snake guy, because he could easily defeat him with no chance of making eye contact. He used his quirk, Foldabody, to make himself ultra thin and folding his body into a blade and, faster than the speed of sound, I'm pretty sure, he struck the villain and cut the blood flow to his brain before he even had the time transform himself, making him faint.

Man, that hero is overpowered…

And the villains clearly weren't prepared for us or we were too much prepared for them, because, as the fight continued, we clearly overwhelmed them. Ereaserhead took the metal manipulation guy and erased his quirk, making him effectively useless in a fight, and easily dealt with but, for some reason, some of the villains thought I was a threat and tried to attack me. As we were severely outnumbered (but not outskilled), even with the sidekicks, it gave my protector quite a bit of trouble, but he did a good job. Until the electricity guy (the one that could shoot lightning bolts from his fingers) managed to temporarily stun the heroes he was fighting and shot an overpowered lightning bolt at me.

I don't know what I had done to piss him off to this extent, but this was all in my plans. I mean, I did provide help to heroes fighting, that's probably the reason why he wanted me down.

We were fighting in a pretty big hall several floors underground and, as I was not a fighter myself (more that the heroes didn't want me to fight, I was an extremely skilled fighter even without my quirks), I was near the door. The electricity guy, him, was on the left side completely, previously cornered by heroes and, I was helping heroes against a trickier villain who was on the right side, so he was in my blind spot (not really, I have 360-degree vision, but they didn't know that).

So when a hero saw the lightning blot toward me, he obviously warned me, hoping that I would have time to dodge. He couldn't block the lightning bolt himself because he was currently in a tough fight, so he did all he could in this situation and yelled:

"Analyst! Dodge! There's an attack on your left."

The sidekick who was protecting me was too busy to even think of blocking the lightning blot, and so, I did what he told me, I dodged, but the villain controlled his lightning bolt mid-air so that it would still hit me.

After dodging, I turned around, facing my left, only to see a lightning blot heading toward me, again. Sadly, this time, it was impossible to dodge without doing an inhuman feat, which would be suspicious.

I crossed my arms in front of me and used bone manipulation to create a bone shield in front of me, tanking the bolt easily.

Everyone was a bit put off after I created the bone shield because well, I used a second quirk after all. But this was all in my plans. I wanted them to know that I have a second quirk so that when I use it, it's not surprising, as I knew that someday, I would be forced to use it to save a life. Although I would invent a huge drawback to it so that it's normal that I don't use it often, I didn't want them to think I was powerful.

Everyone shot me a confused look but quickly went back to dealing with the villains, and a couple of minutes later, they were all dealt with. It was at this moment that I spoke:

"Yes, I have two quirks, the second one allows me to extensively manipulate my body, but, simply put, it consumes a bit of my lifespan each time I use it, so I try to avoid using it as much as possible."

"It consumes your lifespan? It's the first time I heard of something like this", a sidekick said, a bit confused.

"Well, it uses my life energy, the same energy that all healing quirks uses, but my quirk allows me to convert my lifespan into life energy if I want to. Although only a bone shield isn't that much, only around a day or so. But if I used it often, it would stack up pretty fast."

"I understand, sorry", he apologized.

"No problem really."

After that the rest of the raid went pretty smoothly, as most of the powerful villains were in the ambush. I could tell that some of them didn't really buy the explanation of my second quirk, like Eraserhead, but it really didn't matter, I'm pretty sure it was only the suddenness of the revelation that had surprised him and he was just cautious with me. Also, I had already told Detective Tsukauchi about it not long after we met.

Flashback End.

That was the "interesting" event that happened during the raid, but tonight, something interesting would also happen, someone was trying really hard to meet me, Giran told me. He was going by Dabi and was a vigilante/maybe villain, it wasn't really clear.

But if he wanted to meet me that much, I would grant his request, as I felt that there was something more about him.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
TheOnlyRaiko TheOnlyRaiko

Sorry for no chapters in two days, but there will be two today.

So guys, I plan to make him only a teacher at UA, not a student/teacher, because I would make him have two quirks (for them), but only use one, because the other would drain his lifetime (total bullsh*t in reality). Of course, he would still use his second quirk quite often because class 1-A always ends up in some shit and he will protect them (USJ, summer camp, etc.)

He would still be able to kick their a*sses even while fighting quirkless because of his passive quirks and overwhelming skills and he would be forced to use his second quirk from time to time, making the class realize just how much of a bad*ss he his.

The MC would be more of a big brother/mentor figure to them (don’t worry, the story will still focus exclusively on the MC, I won’t make him follow Izuku like some secondary character), as he would help/protect them.

It would make the story interesting as some characters would progressively pry into his double life and discover more about him.

But if you really want him to be a student, I could also do that ( I would slightly rewrite this chapter) but I feel like he wouldn’t fit in 1-A or 1-B, he doesn’t have anything to learn from a hero course really. He already had plenty of experience and skills and being a teacher would suit him more (he also would have another reason for that but it will come later).
