Chapter 35: #35 The rooftop talk

"D-Drop-out? What does that mean?" Ike asked since he was below the red line Chabashira-sensei draw.

"What do you think? If you fail on a midterm or final exam in this school, then you have to drop out." She replied with a sarcastic tone.

"W-What?!" Ike and other failures exclaimed.

'Sudo is the last one with only 14 points...Did he even take it seriously? If yes, we have a big problem here...' Yuichi thought with a furrowed brow.

"The teacher is right. There seem to be a lot of morons here." Kouenji said while polishing his nails.

"What the hell are you saying Kouenji?! You would have failed too." Sudo immediately shouted at him without even giving the sheet a proper look and Kouenji quickly corrected him while pointing at the board with his nail file.

Sudo's mouth opened widely as he finally looked carefully and saw Kouenji's name on top of the list with 90 points.

"And one more thing, all of you most likely know that this school operated by government boasts with 100% employment and college entry rate. Maybe a lot of you wanted to attend this school for this well-known fact and because you want to go for higher education in the future however there is a little problem, well, for you most likely a very big problem." Chabashira said with an amused smile.

"Nothing comes easily to mediocre people like you, definitely not after what you have shown during this month. You would have to be naive if you think you can get into college or the workplace of your choice simply by graduating from here." She continued.

"Does that mean we have to at least surpass Class C?" Hirata asked.

"No. To make your dreams come true, you have to overtake Class A. Dreams don't come true so easily. Aside from Class A, this school doesn't guarantee anything for other students." She replied with crossed arms.

"Wait! That's completely absurd! We were never told this and why were for example I, Kouenji, Horikita, and many others placed into this class?" Yukimura who scored on par with Kouenji stood up and said aloud his doubts.

"I can't disclose such information but can you yourself say that you are a perfect human being?" Chabashira asked Yukimura while staring at him with her sharp eyes.

Hearing her question, Horikita glanced at Yuichi who kept looking out of the window without getting involved in this entire talk, as if he wasn't dissatisfied with being placed into Class D.

"I...At least I have much better grades than many others. I doubt every single person in Class C or B managed to get so many points. Or did they have a different, harder test?" He replied with a bit uncertain expression.

"I didn't ask you for your academic performance, that is indeed very impressive, however, my question was "Can you yourself say that you are a perfect human being?". " Chabashira replied, still sharply staring at him with crossed arms.

"No one is a perfect human being! That's simply impossible..." Yukimura muttered before sinking back into his seat.

Upon hearing this, Kouenji immediately released dissatisfied snort before starting his own a little narcissistic speech.

"Let me give you a little hint...Do you think you are better than Hirata or Iwamura who are right below you in this test, yet their athletic ability is numerous leagues above you? Are you the one being able to convince people to side with you? Yet! They are here with you, I hope this cleared your doubts a little." Chabashira said with a gentle smile but the manner she said this felt like she wanted to put him into his place.

"But what athletic ability has got to do with the school?!" Yukimura asked with a confused expression, not denying her previous words.

"You have PE classes too, no? Why should you not be evaluated in the same way from PE as from History for example?" Chabashira replied before looking at the clock.

"Alright, we should wrap this up if you have no other questions. Your midterm exams are in 3 weeks. Please think things over, and do your best not to drop out." Chabashira said a few more encouraging words after all that trash talk before walking out of the classroom.

When she left, there was silence for a long time before a lot of students stood up and went towards Horikita to thank her.

"I am really sorry saying a few mean words about you, Horikita-san! Thanks to you I didn't use up all my points and we even received some this month!" The girls that previously badmouthed Horikita while being with Kushida apologized with a deep bow.

"I..." Horikita was overwhelmed by too many people so she didn't know what to say, instead of saying anything, she glared at Yuichi's back.

.

.

Yuichi went to the rooftop to clear his head and think about a few things however, someone followed right after him.

"I am amazed at how fast you were able to get past our classmates." Yuichi said to the air while looking from the rooftop at the entire campus with his hands in pockets.

"You used me..." Horikita replied, standing near the exit door, sharply glaring at Yuichi's back.

"Have I?" Yuichi muttered while looking up at the clear sky with a faint smile.

"Why did you throw the credit of all those theories and ideas at me? Are you trying to hide? But from who?" Horikita asked a few questions in a demanding tone.

"I have no reason to hide...Why should I hide?" Yuichi turned his head halfway towards her, looking at her from the corner of his eye.

"Then why?" She asked with crossed arms.

"To help you" Yuichi replied with a faint smile while his hair was dancing in the quite strong wind before he turned back in front of him.

"I don't need your help...Why would you even want to help me? What is your problem? What are you plotting?" She once again bombarded him with questions with narrowed eyes before taking a few steps closer to him.

"You helped me by tutoring me, I will return it by forcing you into social interactions. Even you can't just tell to the person who is sincerely thanking you to fuck off. I have spent enough time with you to know that. Even if this won't be enough for you to make any friends, it will make you have a relevant role in our class and your opinion will be more valuable. Don't you want that? You have heard Chabashira-sensei, if we won't work together, we can't advance further, you can't do anything alone."

"...Right, Ayanokoji-kun?" Yuichi said before asking still with his back facing Horikita and exit door.

"What?" Horikita swiftly turned around at open exit door just for Ayanokoji to walk out in the next few seconds.

"Eh, I am sorry for interrupting, I just wanted to get some fresh air...Anyway, Iwamura, your sight is really abnormal, even during your match..." Ayanokoji said while awkwardly scratching the back of his head.

"I haven't seen you nor heard you, I just took my chance since you are quite close to Horikita. Anyway, you saw my match? Thanks." Yuichi finally turned around and replied with a bright smile.

Both of them tried to deny his words which made him only smile more.

"Ayanokoji-kun, can I tell you something probably a bit rude?" Yuichi asked with a faint smile.

"Hm?" Ayanokoji looked at him with a confused expression before gesturing with his hand to go ahead.

"You are a really weird person, do you know that, Ayanokoji-kun? Your grades are average, everything about you screams average, yet you are so passive and you lack at showing your emotions. For example when you are surprised, under the pretext that you are truly surprised that is. When I called out your name, you didn't look surprised, nor when I said that I just took the guess out of nowhere...you never showed any genuinely surprised expression. Don't take it as if I am saying that you are creepy or something, I just had to say it aloud...I apologize if I wronged you." Yuichi said with an apologetic smile.

"I have always been like that...so don't worry, I don't mind you saying that." Ayanokoji replied.

"Then Schizoid personality disorder is it? I am sorry..." Yuichi muttered with a curious expression before apologizing again.

"Anyway, I think we should return, the break is about to end very soon." Yuichi said with a smile, walking towards the exit door.

'Was he just stalling for the time?' Horikita frowned and thought when Yuichi walked past her.
