Chapter 17: Jinn
As their lips touched, Kai raised his hand, slapping Art across the face and quickly standing up. "What the hell?" Kai yelled.
Art stretched the slapped side of his face, rubbing it with his hand, "ouch, why'd you hit me?" he asked as if nothing had happened.
"Something is seriously wrong with you, I'm leaving.", said Kai as he gathered his large sketch pad and charcoal pencils, but Art quickly stood up grabbing his arm.
"Don't go, are you flustered that much by a little peck on the lips?" said Art with a smirk, he was enjoying this too much.
Kai yanked his arm away, "I'm dating your brother you fucking weirdo!" Kai yelled as he stormed toward the door.
"Oh, come on, it's not like you're married, that's the only way you'd be off limits.", said Art with a chuckle.
Kai spun around, outraged by what he was hearing. "You have absolutely no respect for me or Jinn, so I won't be working with you anymore. Tell people what you want about me, I couldn't give a shit!" said Kai, Art was crazy for sure.
Art let out a chuckle again, "Listen, it's really not that big a deal, it wouldn't be the first time Jinn and I have shared a guy and you won't be the last."
Kai's furrowed brows suddenly raised, "what…what did you just say?", he asked unsure if he heard correctly.
"You heard me.", said Art walking closer to Kai so that the two of them were face to face again. "If you don't want me that's too bad, I suppose I'll have to work a little harder.", said Art, putting up his hand and moving the hair that was in Kai's face out of the way.
Kai stood frozen for a moment, before pushing Art away and quickly made his way out of the door, not bothering to close it behind him. Getting on the elevator and rushing off after it made its way to the ground floor of the building, Kai ran out of the apartment. Power walking to his car, Kai got in and slammed the door shut. With unsteady hands Kai tried to put his key in the ignition, missing a few times. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, Kai relaxed his body enough to be able to put the key in the ignition and started his car. Banging his head back against the head rest Kai simply sat there as his eyes began to water. That word "shared" echoed in his head over and over. Art had to be lying right? Jinn could be a little possessive, but he was gentle and caring, he wasn't that kind of person to "share" his lover, there was no way! As Kai sat there with all these thoughts rushing into his mind, there was suddenly a knock on his window. Startled Kai jumped, pressing the button so his window would go down and standing there was some tall guy with brown hair.
"Yeah?" said Kai, his voice cracking a bit.
"I'm sorry if I scared ya, I've been flashing my lights at you for a while, are coming out or…?" said the guy.
"Oh, oh yeah, my bad.", said Kai and the guy nodded going back to his car. Kai put his car in drive, pulling out of the parking spot and began to drive home, there was no way he was going back to Jinn's apartment tonight.
The next morning Kai had awoke to his phone ringing, he picked it up to see that it was Jinn, blinking himself awake he sat up and answered, "Hello?"
"Uh, heyyy, where are you?" said Jinn, a little bit agitation in his voice.
"I'm at home.", said Kai letting out a loud yawn.
"You know that you're an hour and a half late for work?", said Jinn. As Kai heard this his eyes grew wide, he took the phone from his ear to see indeed that it was after 11:30am. "Shit, I'll be right there.", said Kai as he hung up. Looking at his phone, Kai could see that he had quite a few missed calls from Jinn, from last night and this morning.
"Fuck!" Kai yelled as he tapped his forehead over and over, he had driven straight home last night, ignoring Jinn's calls and had trouble going to sleep after the situation with Art, but he never expected to oversleep. Jumping out of bed, Kai grabbed a towel, hopped in the shower, washing in under five minutes. After throwing on the usual work clothes, Kai sloppily smoothed his hair into a bun and made his way to work.
When Kai got to work, it was well after 12:00pm, he knew Jinn was going to let him have it, not to mention he had completely ducked out on him last night. Kai power walked to his desk, first clocking in and then exhaling heavily, the night into the early morning had been way too eventful for his taste.
At around 1:30pm Kai's phone buzzed, and he picked it up to see who it was.
"Come see me.", the text from Jinn read.
Kai sighed, "I can't, got a lot to do since I was late.", he responded.
After a few seconds, a text came through again saying, "Your manager says now please and thank you." Rolling his eyes Kai got up and made his way to Jinn's office.
Not bothering to knock, Kai walked in to see Jinn doing some paperwork. Sitting down in the chair on the opposite side of the desk, Kai stared at Jinn. Although he had asked him to come see him, Jinn hadn't acknowledged the fact that Kai had come into the room yet, he must be annoyed, Kai thought.
Jinn finished writing, straightened out the papers, placed them down on the desk and looked up at Kai, quite the blank expression on his handsome face.
"What happened to you last night?" Jinn suddenly asked.
Kai swallowed hard, staring down at his lap, not that it should be discussed at work, but there was so much he wanted to say, he just didn't know how to. Not thinking anymore about it Kai looked up, once again making eye contact with Jinn, "I was tired when I left Art's place, didn't feel like driving the extra half hour to get to your place." Kai shrugged.
Jinn furrowed his brows, "So why couldn't you just tell me that? You had me worried as fuck all night.", said Jinn, his tone quite firm and his face stern although he spoke in a low voice since they were still at work.
"Sorry.", said Kai not looking Jinn in the eye, something was up and Jinn could most certainly tell.
Letting out a deep exhale, Jinn cleared his throat, "Should I expect to see you tonight or are you just gonna go home?" said Jinn, somewhat annoyed with Kai.
Also letting out a deep exhale, Kai stood, "I'll be there.", he said turning around to exit the office.
After work, Kai made his way home, changing his clothes and made his way to Jinn's apartment. Kai exhaled heavily, as he walked down the hall, this was going to be an awkward and potentially a problem situation, but Kai had to ask. He had to know if Art was simply saying those things to get a rise out of him or were, they true? Exhaling again, Kai opened the already unlocked door and sitting there in the kitchen with Jinn was none other than Art. Kai stood in the doorway for a moment, just looking at the two who hadn't noticed him yet. Kai exhaled silently, realizing that he had a choice, he could run away like he always did or he could stay and talk to Jinn after Art left and before he could decide, he had been noticed.
"Kai, why are you just standing in the doorway? Come in and close the door.", said Art with a chuckle.
"Ahh, there you are, we've been waiting for you to order dinner, what do you want?" asked Jinn. Hesitantly, Kai walked into the apartment and closed the door behind him, "I'm not hungry.", he said walking past the two of them in the kitchen and making his way to Jinn's bedroom. Exhaling heavily, Kai allowed his body to fall backwards onto the bed, all he had to do was wait it out and hopefully Art would be gone soon, but he suddenly felt the bed press down beside him.
"Kai, what's wrong? Are you feeling sick or something?" Jinn asked as he leaned down on his side next to Kai, placing the back of his hand on Kai's forehead.
Kai turned his head away, silently telling Jinn to move his hand, "I'm fine."
Jinn slowly retracted, his hand feeling a little shunned, with a worried look he sighed, "Kai, have I done something to upset you?" he asked.
Kai turned his head to Jinn, the look on his face could've eaten Kai alive. Closing his eyes momentarily Kai sat up, wrapping his arms around Jinn, and Jinn did the same, burying his head in the nape of Kai's neck. Kai didn't know how to feel about what Art had said, but there was no way that it could be true. This guy holding Kai deep into his strong arms was not the person Art had made him out to be, but for some reason he felt uneasy, he still had to ask didn't he?
The two sat there hugging for a moment, when Kai sighed, hearing this Jinn couldn't help, but to ask, "what's bothering you Kai?", he said softly.
Kai let go of Jinn and sat up, although he was still kind of slouching, "Jinn…have you..", Kai began to talk, but he was suddenly interrupted by a third person entering the room.
"I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but I'm kinda starving, are you guys ready to order?", said Art.
"Uh yeah, just a minute.", said Jinn, turning back to Kai.
Kai sighed silently, as he stared back at the man he had come to trust sitting in front of him. This was important and there was no way he was going to be able to have this conversation with Art around, so without thinking anymore Kai stood, grabbing Jinn's hand. "Come on, lets order some food.", said Kai pulling Jinn up from the bed. Still feeling a little uneasy, Jinn stood, following behind Kai without question. The three made their way into the kitchen and sat to look at the menu although Kai was more interested in biting his own nails.
"Do you want pizza Kai?" asked Jinn.
"Anything is fine, I'll eat whatever you eat.", said Kai, not bothering to look up.
Jinn sighed, "well, lets get pizza then."
"Perfect!" said Art, "now we can continue to work on my house while we wait Kai.", said Art. Kai looked up to see Art already staring at him, a sly smirk on his face. He sure didn't understand what it meant when people told him they wanted nothing to do with him.
