Eating in silence, Kai sat as he listened to Art ramble on, only speaking when a question was asked. "Have you eaten enough? You don't want anything else, desert maybe?", Art asked, an innocent smile on his handsome face.
"I'm fine.", Kai said softly, as he picked up his lemon water and taking a sip, he was beginning to wish he did drink.
"Alrighty then.", Art replied as he raised his hand for the waiter to see. "Check please.", he said politely.
"Okay, I'll be right back.", said Tanya, as she made her way over toward the register. When Tanya was gone, Art directed his attention back toward Kai to see him with a slight pout on his face as he stared down at his lap. Letting out a small sigh, Art ran his fingers through his hair, this wasn't exactly going how he had intended.
After Tanya had returned with the bill, Art paid and the two made their way out of the restaurant, Kai in the front with Art trailing behind. As they walked, Art's eyes traced Kai's body from head to toe, he sure had the cutest legs and pigeon-toed feet.
Pulling his keys out of his pocket, Art pressed the button to unlock his car and they both got in. "Just take me to Jinn's, I don't want you knowing where I live.", Kai said rudely as he began to put on his seatbelt.
With a smirk on his face, Art chuckled as he turned the ignition, and put the car in drive, "Who said this date was over?", he responded before pulling off. Rolling his eyes, Kai decided to say nothing, he was just going to have to endure this man's company for a little longer.
After a short drive, Art pulled over and parked. Glancing around, Kai saw that they were on a pretty busy strip full of stores. "Where are we going now?", he asked as he turned to see that Art was already getting out of the car.
"You'll have to get out of the car to find out Kai.", said Art, a smirk on his face as he closed the door. Rolling his eyes once more, Kai complied, following Art down the strip.
After following Art down the busy strip for a few minutes, Kai couldn't help but to feel a bit curious about where they were going, he had driven down this strip with Jinn many times, but they had never stopped.
Finally stopping in front of a heavily tinted window shop, Art stepped aside, a smile on his face as he gestured out a hand, politely allowing Kai to go in first. Taking a glance at Art first, Kai then looked up at the name of the establishment called 'Joes', a place he had never heard of. Although he was skeptical, Kai shrugged and opened the door and went in, but the moment he did, his eyes grew wide. They had walked into a dimly lit place, with multicolored lights changing on their own. People either danced to the loud pounding electronica music sounding or played the many arcade games lined up on every wall and in the center of it all sat a large bar, full of patrons drinking and carrying on.
With wide eyes, Kai turned to Art, a smirk present on his handsome face. "What is this?", Kai asked, his tone louder as he spoke over the music, but actually polite for the first time and Art took note.
"This is 'Joes Barcade'", said Art, his smirk turning into that of a smile.
"Barcade?", Kai asked with surprise.
"Mn.", Art nodded. "I wanted to take you somewhere nicer, but I guess I should have just gone with my first instinct.", Art chuckled.
"A bar with games for the adults that are still kids at heart, this is clever as fuck!", said Kai, impressed as he nodded his head over and over.
"Well, I'm glad to hear that you like it considering that this is one of my business endeavors.", Art replied.
"Really? You own this?", said Kai, quickly turning toward Art.
"As soon as the paperwork clears, I will, we all need multiple streams of income, right?", said Art with a smile, Kai was so damn cute when he was excited.
"Oh! Well, are we here so you can tie up lose ends?", Kai asked.
"Today we are just guest like everyone else, had you listened to me, you would've heard me say that this is where I had originally wanted to bring you.", Art chuckled.
Squinting his eyes, Kai turned away, "No, I think your instincts were correct, considering you're about to get your ass handed to you.", said Kai as he cockily walked away with a smirk on his face.
"Oh really? Don't be too sure about that.", said Art, as he made his way over toward Kai who had pulled out a few dollars in exchange for game tokens.
"Your pick?", said Kai, a smug expression on his face as he turned toward Art with a hand full of tokens. Walking over to a game of his choosing, Art couldn't help, but to grin, he could get use to Kai's company no matter how feisty he was.
"I pick 'road fighter', no one has ever been able to beat me in this game.", said Art as Kai began to put tokens into the machine for each of them.
"Is that so? Well, since I have a sweet tooth now, you can buy me frozen yogurt after I win.", Kai said confidently as he began to choose his fighter.
"Cocky little shit aren't ya?", Art chuckled as he too choose his fighter.
"Began!", the game clamored and the two began going at it, both fighters exchanging punches and power attacks.
"What the hell was that?! I could hardly touch you!", Art cursed as Kai had just defeated his character without taking much damage.
"Feeling some regret?", Kai teased, a smirk making its way onto his face.
"I regret nothing, let's play again!", Art demanded, and Kai put more tokens into the machine.
After going to get more tokens and playing a ridiculous number of matches, Art had become quite frustrated losing every round. This was his childhood game; no way Kai was beating him this easily! "What the fuck? Again!", Art cursed.
"Nah, I can't keep embarrassing you like that, you suck!", said Kai, that pretty eye squinting smile finally making its way onto his handsome face as he cackled loudly.
"Well, I suppose losing isn't that bad when you still get a prize at the end.", said Art, a smile on his own face.
"What do you mean?", Kai asked as he was still quite tickled.
"That is the first time you've smiled and even laughed since we've been together.", Art responded.
"Oh, ahem!", Kai said awkwardly, clearing his throat. "Let's go, you owe me frozen yogurt.", he said and quickly walked away with Art happily following behind.
Down the street from the barcade, the two stood in line at the frozen yogurt place, Kai holding his cup, eager to get his fill. "What does this even taste like? It doesn't sound good.", Art complained.
"Oh my God, you and Jinn need to live a little, he said the same thing.", Kai giggled.
"But did he try it?", Art asked.
"Nope, I could never get him to come.", said Kai.
"Well then, I'll try it since he won't, I guess one of us has to be the guinea pig.", Art shrugged.
"Don't be so dramatic!", Kai giggled again.
When it was their turn in line, Art and Kai filled their cups to the brim with frozen yogurt, whatever topping's they liked and Art paid. Making their way over to the bar stool tables near the window, the two sat down. "Well, here goes nothing.", said Art before he placed a hefty spoonful of frozen yogurt into his mouth.
"Well?", said Kai, his brows raised and his pretty brown eyes wide as he anxiously awaited Art's answer.
Closing his eyes as he chewed, Art quickly opened his eyes, "well damn, that's good.", he finally said.
"See? I told you, it's just like creamier ice cream!", Kai said happily as he helped himself to his own frozen yogurt. Staring at Kai for a moment, Art couldn't help, but to feel a little unsatisfied, after all, this was only temporary.
"Kai.", he suddenly spoke.
"Hmm?", said Kai as he looked up to see that same unreadable expression on Art's handsome face.
"Back at the Barcade, you asked me if I felt regret and I didn't answer honestly.", said Art.
"Oh no, I was just talking shit, I didn't mean…", Kai began to say, but Art cut in.
"What I mean is, if there's anything that I regret, it would be the way that I treated you in the kitchen the first weekend we met, I'm sorry about that.", said Art, his tone much softer than Kai had ever heard. Surprised, Kai stared at Art dumbfounded, did Art just apologize to him?
"I…um..I.", Kai began to stutter, but Art began to speak again.
"I admit that I'm not a nice guy Kai. I'll do whatever necessary to get my way, you know that, but that isn't the person I want to be to you. I insisted on taking you out because I wanted to actually get the chance to spend some time with you so that you could realize that there's more to me and that I'm not just persisting because I only want to sleep with you. You were a cute vendetta at first, then you became interesting, but now I've realized that I like you Kai, and that's way more than I care to admit.", said Art, that same expression his face.
"…", still at a lost for words, Kai's complexion turned a shade pinker as he stared at Art and Art back at him. This date that Art had forced him on had done exactly what it was meant to do because for a while, Kai had forgotten that he was out with a person he had despised two hours ago.
"I don't want to force anything Kai, I just want a fair shot.", Art continued when Kai hadn't spoken.
As they stared at each other, Kai's phone began to buzz, but he was still too shocked to answer it. "You should get that, that's probably Jinn wondering where you are.", said Art a soft smile on his face.
"Ri…right.", Kai stuttered before he picked up the phone. "Hello.", he said finally taking his eyes off of Art when he heard Jinn's voice.
"Hey, I just got off? Where are you?", said Jinn.
"I'm…I'm at…the frozen yogurt place.", said Kai.
"Eww, I don't know how you eat that shit.", Jinn giggled.
"Shut up.", Kai responded, forcing a giggle as he looked up to see that Art was some what pouting.
"Anyway, send me the location, I'll come get you.", said Jinn.
"Okay, doing that now.", said Kai.
"Alright then, be there shortly.", said Jinn.
"Okay.", said Kai before he hung up. "Jinn is coming to get me.", he continued, squeezing the half-eaten cup of frozen yogurt in his hands.
"I know, I'll wait with you until then.", said Art as he stood.
"Just go, I'd rather you didn't.", Kai responded quickly.
"You're kidding, you can't expect me to just leave you her…", Art began to argue, but Kai cut him off.
"That's exactly what you're going to do! I don't want him to know that I was with you!", Kai said firmly, although he didn't have the heart to look Art in the eye.
"Well, I'll just pretend like that didn't hurt my feelings Kai, but since you want me to leave, I'll just wait in my car until you've gone.", said Art as he picked up his frozen yogurt and began walking off, but he suddenly paused. "Think about what I've said Kai, because I swear, I can make you happier than my brother can.", said Art before he tossed his unfinished frozen yogurt in the trash, roughly pushing the door open and leaving out of the shop.
Bringing his hand to his forehead, Kai let out a heavy sigh, if Art was serious about everything that he had said, things were about to get even worse.
I know, I've been slacking ( '_' ) but here it is, thanks for reading, more to come!
