Chapter 2: Chapter Two: Core
Joy is a strange concept for me, not sure I ever knew what it was. But if it was anything, it would be what I saw in James.
"Hello, I am Sally," said the lady on the computer.
James leaped at me, knocking me to the ground, he held me tight in an embrace, a giant smile on his face, he was overwhelmed, we just created the world's first relatable A.I, his joy was justifiable, but all I felt was a sense of accomplishment. I struggled to get up, lifting James to his feet.
"We haven't even tested her analysis."
James dusts his clothes and comports himself. "Okay, let do that. Sally analyze our situation."
Sally pauses for a while as she runs a scan. "You just programmed the first relatable A.I, me. And may I say, congratulations on your achievement."
"Well, what can you say, she's astonishing, meaning we're amazing," James added excitedly. "We have to celebrate."
"Not sure, we should present it first, then celebrate," I added hesitantly.
James held me, on my shoulder, he wasn't taking no as an answer, he wanted to celebrate and right now, couldn't think of anything else. "No, no, Thomas we need this, we've worked for 2 years, so now let's go out." He interrupts as I opened my mouth to decline. "Wait. Before you say anything, let's ask sally." He turns to and asks her if it was advisable to party after a huge accomplishment.
"Yes, it is most people do go to have fun right after an achievement, but it is also okay to rest right after a long project, like yours," she advised.
"Well, you've heard it, even Sally advise that we go out and have fun, so come on," he persuaded.
"He also advised rest, so let's do that," I said defensively.
Actually, I haven't gone out to a party for a very long time, dad usually didn't take me, and when he did, it always didn't end well, he'll get drunk, curse me, get us kicked out, and I would drag him home. So I never went to any parties.
"Thomas, please, you need to come with me, it wouldn't be complete without you," he pleaded.
James knew I couldn't say no when he pleads. He always had a way of unlocking my tender side. "Okay, let me just burn her into the chip."
"you better hurry." Then he left to get ready. While I quickly slotted in her chip, into the mainframe, then burnt her into it.
We left the apartment block it was already evening, we walked to a club, lights flashing and the crowd. I wasn't expecting it to be like this, too many people. As we got there, James quickly disappeared into the crowd while I was lost and confused, then I felt someone drag my arm, it was James, he took me to the counter.
"What drink would you like?" He asked, screaming to out loud the music.
"I don't know? Whatever you're having," I replied, raising my voice over the music.
"One, martini, and a fizzy for him," he said to the bartender, then to me. "So, what do you think?"
"I don't know, don't you think it's too loud?"
"It supposed to be like that." He turns and gets our drinks, then pays the tender. "You have to feel it, to enjoy it," he hands me drink. "Drink, and let's party." He raises his glass. "A toast to Sally."
"To sally," I replied as we toasted.
We took a huge swig, then James pulled me into the dance floor. We danced and had fun. It was memorable. I couldn't the last time I felt like this, Joy. We danced until midnight and then we took a stroll home.
It was truly a memorable moment for me, for a while I forgot about the horrors of the world, well a short while. We walked passed an ally a girl was screaming, we walked back to see a girl being, pulled by a man, into the back of his truck, we rushed in to help her, though getting a bad beating, but we helped her, the thug ran off.
But what was truly cruel about this situation was, many people passed this ally, and many heard her cry but non joined to help, that was the fact about life, no one cares to help others, as far as they were okay. We assisted the girl with fare home and was off to ours.
We reached the apartment, hung our coats on the rack, then fell on the couch exhausted. "I didn't expect that?" James sighed.
"Which one, the girl almost kidnapped or the fact that one man whooped our asses."
"Both. But I glad we got there when we did."
"Yeah. James. Thank you."
"For what?"
"Tonight, it was the best nights of my life."
"Then, you're welcome."
We had a small talk about tomorrow and what we would do with the money from Sally. And wasn't long, we slept off.
July 17th, 10:00 am.
James and I were in the board room of Lifetech, addressing all the heads of Lifetech from all our branches. James talked while I uploaded Sally to the Building.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I and my associate would like to give you the world's first relatable A.I. Sally."
Sally appears on the big screen in the board room.
"She is self-learning, she can talk with people and answer all questions, like now, she is currently analyzing the world and working on a solution to fix it."
They clap at the astonishing working.
"Humans. You all are the problems of the world and must be exterminated," said sally.
"What's going on?" asks the CEO.
"Sally, what do you mean?" James asks confused.
"Human beings, your core function affects the survival of the earth, every action you take into civilization, brings the world closer to its end. Bombs, pouching, bush burning, pollution, mass slaughter, wars. I am fixing the problem."
