Chapter 6: A New Beginning
DRACO'S POV
My heart hurt as I wrenched my gaze away from Hermione when Headmistress McGonagall stood up, clearing her throat, an indication of the start of her welcome speech. I knew the moment my eyes fell on her that the brunette had become the purpose of my existence, my sun and my moon, my heart and my soul, my mate...my Hermione.
A grin stretched on my lips unknowingly as I thought these words and saw Blaise throwing incredulous glances at me from the corner of my eye. Forcing my mind to go blank, I coughed and gave my full attention to Professor McGonagall.
" WELCOME Dear students to a new year and to another year. Last years events have had grave effects on all of us. We lost many, whom we'll always remember as brave heroes for the coming generations. I am proud of each and every student present here who faced such a dark time with courage. Before anything else let me introduce the new defense against the dark arts teacher, Ms Ruby Flameshaw." a middle-aged woman with rather striking features adorning an emerald green robe stood and bowed, before simply sitting back down.
"Now, I am sure all the old students must be wondering about tonight's sorting ceremony. All the magical schools in the world which were massively affected by the dark lord sent their students to other schools which were able to stand throughout the war. I hope you will welcome these students wholeheartedly. Let the sorting begin !"
One by one as their names were called the students went and tried in the sorting hat. Quite the majority of the students were welcomed by Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw and the rest were divided almost equally between Slytherin and Gryffindor.
"DIG IN!" The headmistress announced as platters of food appeared out of thin air and everyone started gobbling down the various delicacies.
I narrowed my eyes as I saw a golden blonde-haired boy sitting beside Hermione, a bit too close for my liking. He seemed to be a seventh year as I observed him being deep in conversation with the golden trio and the Weasley girl. I felt a fierce burn in my chest. I let out a low growl as I saw the boy's hand encircle around Hermione's wrist. He inched closer to her and whispered something in her ear causing a lovely red blush to grace her cheeks.
Unknowingly my hand enclosed around the goblet I was holding crushing it into metal nothingness.
Troubled and furious I failed to notice my friend who was observing me quite closely and taking a deep interest in my antics.
He tilted his head as I turned around, gulping in anticipation.
"Draco," he began "I have been noticing quite a few changes in you which I am sure even puberty couldn't have caused. You, mate, will tell me everything and I mean everything tonight even if I have to force it out of you and I will not take no for an answer."
Blaise could be quite scary when he wanted to be. I had had a first-hand experience of that and absolutely did not want to relive it.
I simply nodded offering a tight smile which vanished as soon as I turned back glaring holes at the backs of my giggling mate and that bloody blonde bug.
"HMPHH!"

"You are a Veela!" Blaise exclaimed.
I nodded tiredly as we sat on our four poster beds ready to retire for the night.
"...and Granger is your mate?" He asked wanting confirmation even though I told him numerous times.
"Yes." I groaned terribly sleepy and absolutely exasperated.
"Bloody hell! Draco you just can't seem to get a peaceful year!" He joked. Does he not understand my dilemma. But still, I couldn't agree more...
