Chapter 2: The moonlit party
On a bright new refreshing day, The Comets were having a downcast time. Jake yelled," Where are the others?" and he walks towards the field with rage. Pablo said, "Ben isn't here". Jake saw him with a maddening look and called in a defensive replacement. Jake pointed out two members in the team and said," Your the third base and you cover the center field". Someone called out his name across the field; he ran towards him and said, "Morning coach". The coach saw him with a sullen face and showed him a paper and asked: Can you notice where our school name is?"
"Yes sir, it's in the last" Jake said. The coach saw him with anger and said, "I need Meadows to be in the first place within two weeks" and he chucked the paper on his face, Jake stood dumbstruck. Followed by him Ferric showed up and yelled him and then Jake said," come on, this is unfair you're the sports captain and I am the one who controls everything". He stepped closer to him and said," I'm the foreman and I command, you're the wingman and you do what I say". Jake glared at him.
Kyle laid his hand on Jake's shoulder and said," Hey, seems like you are having an awful day; never knew you played baseball."
"It's no just awful it's star-crossed, well being the sports vice-captain I have to stand on the fields all day," said Jake
"That's cool; I was just wondering what kinda party your hosting tonight," Kyle asked
"It's just a formal one, parties that we throw at the first week" Jake gushed
"I have to go now; I am kinda busy so, we can meet at the party."
"Sure thing," Kyle said. He smiled as Jake started to run to the field.
He walked out of the field and went to his locker and stuck a note saying (Get busy living or Get busy dying - Stephen King). He stared at it for a second and then locked his locker.
Later, at the corridors
As he was on his way for the last class, he turned to the locker to grab a few things. He took his things and turned around, a girl was staring at him, her hair was ash-blonde in color and she was completely covered in Gucci and piercing in her nose and with a cherry lollipop in her mouth. She ran into him and asked," How is the school so far?"
"It's great," Kyle said
"What's your name?"
"Phabe is the name" she had a proud face when she said that; they started to talk to each other and spoke about their likes and dislikes. Kyle made his second friend at Meadows.
"So what are your parents doing," Phabe asked
"My mom's a nurse and my dad passed away when I was five" he resumed for a second and said " anyways I got my mom as both; my everything"
Phabe mumbled "I'm so sorry about your father"
"No that's okay don't be, so what about your folks" Kyle smiled
She pointed at the principles office and said," my dad's right there and I'm just like you, single parenting".
They were silent for sometime after they shared their feelings about their folks, Phabe said," You're coming to the party right"
He nodded and said yes. She decided to pick him up at 7 in the Mistletoe lane. They said bye and departed. He walked to the chemistry lab; he saw Jake and waved his hand. He sat in the first row with him and said, "What a wonder, I'm finally able to meet you in class" and both giggled, and then Pablo showed up and said, "Hola amigo" and Kyle replied "Hola tú Debes ser Pablo".
He saw him surprisingly and asked whether he could speak Spanish fluently and he replied yes.
Mrs. Nancy opened the door and said, "Jake Lucas, your wanted in the principal's office." He swiftly got up and walked to the office, when he opened the door he found his parents sitting in front of Principal Castor.
At Lucas's
They sat together in the dining room; Mr.Lucas in the left and Mrs. Lucas in the right and Jake in middle.
Jake asked," we are eyeballing each other for 30 minutes and did what, other than wasting our time". Mr.Lucas stammered " we want to talk sometime foremost, it's about us; our family".
"Go ahead dad" Jake sighed
"We decided to split up", He said with a dejected look
'Okay go ahead, why are you discussing with me" Jake said it easily
"Don't you have your opinion to share?" Mrs. Lucas asked
" Well what do you guys expect from me, it's your life and it's your verdict; anyways what role do I play here," Jake said
"Your our boy, and
"Wow, so you guys still remember that you have a son; that's surprising" He rebuked "You know what, I always wanted to tell this to both of you; the last time I saw you both together was at grandpa's funeral when I was 9 years old. Now, I'm seeing you both together with divorce papers" the place remained soundless "Do whatever you want, it's your living"
He was resentful. Mr.Lucas passed the papers to her saying that he already signed it.
The night at the party,
Kyle wore a collared white shirt- polo style and a black Jean. Phabe picked him exactly the time she said and went to the party. They got down from the car and Kyle said, "This place is first-class". They went in; The place looked like a niterie.
(5 in the morning playing)
They went in and Phabe hanged her hat in the coat rack and started to walk towards the dance floor and Phabe asked," Do you want something to drink?" Kyle replied, "Yeah sure, non-alcoholic please". He sat on one of the chairs next to him. Jake noticed him and proceeded towards him and said, "How's the party?"
Kyle replied "it's parky, by the way, your house is massive and breathtaking" He smiled and then called his friends to introduce.
He said," These are my bosom friends, she's Mia, Oscar, Lydia, Kaolin, Sam, and Josh. They are my alter ego."
"I need more time to get your names into my mind" Kyle exclaimed
"We are plenty of friends for him; take your time buddy" Sam gushed
"We're gonna dance, coming with us," Kaolin asked
"No, I'm not really into dances" Kyle replied. As soon as they left, Sara showed up and said," Never knew you were a party boy"
"I thought this party was only for his classmates," Kyle said.
"Well, you thought my sister won't join" Jake teased.
He stood startled and said that they don't look like siblings and laughed. Phabe bought his drinks and started walking towards the playing area. (Digital breakthrough playing) . Many were the same boring party games like never have I ever and mirror charades. Phabe played and Kyle just watched has they played, Jake played mirror charades and kept losing because the loser gets to drink tequila.
They had so much fun that they didn't realize it was a late-night, people started moving out. Phabe and Kyle decided to leave. When they walked to the front door, he saw Jake, Pablo, and Josh sober and looked like they nearly passed out. Kyle saw Jake innocently. Later, he got home and he looked completely drained and jumped on his bed and stared at the ceiling, he closed his eyes and got a goodnight sleep.
