Chapter 2: Chapter 2- A Weird Message
After coming out of the nightclub, his phone vibrated. Fishing it out, he couldn't help but check the notification.
The message of 'Mission Complete' was dazzling as ever. Clicking on the collect button just below the message, he looked around and taking a few turns and there, arrived at a desolate alley.
Arriving at the alley, he walked a few steps, then came to abrupt halt. Suddenly extending his hands towards his face, he pulled outward and a new countenance came into being.
Grabbing a lighter from his inner pocket, a kindled flame came about, gently swaying. Bringing the lighter below the mask, it was set ablaze & in a few seconds only ash remained but before touching the ground they were xarried away by the blowing wind,now remivibg any sign of their being.
Putting the lighter back,he took out his phone and biiked a cab.Then turning his attention to the other app with a gun icon laying at the bottom right corner of the page,he clicked it open.
The screen suddenly changed to white and after flicking a few times,a simple layout with black background was presented.
The words on the display were written in an eerie red color.
Clicking on the 'Balance' panel that also without exception was red in colour,a picture of a silver coin with a gold skull engraved in the middle appeared.Below this picture of a coin,there was a string of digits reading '120'.
Following this he couldn't help but utter,"it's still as magical as previous times.Looks like I won't get used to it anytime soon."
Turning around,he walked back out of the alley. Making it as a nearby street, he waited. After a few minutes the cab arrived. Opening the door, he got on.
While in the car, he lost himself in the thought that how much has changed since that time. He as an ordinary person couldn't have imagined he would encounter something this extraordinary.
Taking a trip down the memory lane, he arrived three months ago when it all started.
"What are you staring at punk. Beat him more for daddy." A harsh voice commanded.
"Yes boss", one of the lackies said saying that, two tall men started raining kicks and punches.
The receiver of this treatment was a young man around twenty.
"No, don't hit big brother." A sobbing cry full of bleeding came about.
The man who seemed like the boss with a scar on his left cheek spoke plainly, " your big brother is stupid, little girl. Shouldn't he know not to meddle in others business."
Speaking this his features turned ugly and smiling ferociously, he told his underlings to beat the young man harder.
"Don't you like to stick your nose where it doesn't belong. Let me help you fix that." Turning towards his mel, he shouted" punch him harder."
"Enough, stop hitting him. I will pay you the money let him leave. He has nothing to do with it." And old man kneeling beside the girl said with guilt.
The old man was not properly feel and upon a closer look even appeared a little on the thin side. There were light marks of bruises on his body. Obviously he has been beaten before.
"Shut up old man or you are next. The lackey beating the young man said arrogantly.
"Give me the money and I will leave." The man with the scar said. " I don't have it on me but Mei bring the ring over." Said the old man turning towards the girl.
"Grandpa, that..." the girl hesitated a little.
The ring was very dear to her and her grandpa it was the last reminiscence of her parents. It held a very important place in her heart.
"Bring it quick." The old man reprimanded.
Watching the youth lying infront of her and her grandfather's determination, the little bit of hesitation disappeared.
She ran to thehouse and came back quickly. She opened her little fist and passes the ring to her grandpa while controlling the tears threatening to fell out.
Seeing his granddaughter like this, the old man was also heartbroken. Afterall the ring carried the sentimental value for him too. It was last of his son's and daughter's remembrance.
But he steeled his resolve and walked to the leader of the group. One of the lackies came forward and pushed the old man away. Taking the ring from him he passed it to his boss.
Examining the ring closely and confirming its real, he turned to the old man and said "At least you are smart...unlike some people." Pausing before the latter part, his eyes couldn't help but move to the youth lying not far away.
Keeping the ring he signalling his lackies and swaggered out.
Squatting before the youth, the old man asked anxiously " can you stand. Its all my fault."
"I'm alright old man. Don't blame yourself."The low and groaning voice of the youth replied.
"I should have paid him sooner,so all of this shouldn't have happened."The old man felt sorry.
"They just extort people.They are unreasonable to begin with.You don't have to blame yourself."Uttering the words of comfort to the old man,he tried to get up but failed.The old man supported him in time."Let me help you."The liitle girl also came forward and helped him to stand up.
"Damn,it hurts like hell."He couldn't help yelling in his mind when he tried to dust off the dirt.
"Rest here for a while."the old man called out seeing the young man flinching.
"No big deal.Ok,I got to go now.See you tomorrow."
Glancing at the little girl,he rubbed her head gently and said,"be strong Mei."
"Dont worry big brother,Mei will be strong."Mei nodded her head with resolve.
"See you around."The young man waved at the duo and left. Looking at the receding back, the old man let out a sigh and said "he is a good lad." "Yes, big brother is the best."
After walking a distance, the young man stopped and thought to himself "only if I were stronger. No one could mess with me" while looking at the setting sun. At this moment, his phone vibrated. Taking it out to look there appeared a pop-up message:
"If you want to become strong and change your fate."
"Will you sacrifice anything to obtain power."
"Are you willing to go to any lengths to achieve the ultimate goal."
"Do you have what it takes to see your ambition to the end."
"Please choose - 'Yes/No'."
Looking at the weird message, he didn't think much of it and closed it immediately.
Putting back his phone, he continued walking to his apartment.
