Chapter 14: Chapter 14
I find my self back in the lab. As tall and grown up as I was.
Did I go back to the same day I left?
My lab is clean and almost empty. Or not.
"What happened when I was gone? How can I continue living after what just happened? I can't just forget about Alex." I sigh
"Brie?" I here a familiar voice and turn only to be trapped in a tight embrace.
"You are alive!!"
"Fred?" I say recognizing the familiar voice and he let's go of me.
" You remember me!!" He exclaims excitedly.
"Wait look at me!" I obediently look at him.
"How many fingers are these?" He raised three fingers up for me to see.
"Three? What are you doing?" I ask confused.
"I am checking if you are still smart!"
"Anyone would see that those fingers are three! How stupid do think I am?" I ask and I pretend to be angry and look away.
"Oh, my partner and best friend I think you are the smartest person on earth." He says coaxing me and we both burst out laughing.
"Anyway enough drama tell me everything where have you been? You know we had to attend your burial without you!"
"My burial?" I ask shocked.
"Yes we thought you were burnt to death. We found ashes in the lab!"
"What?! So you mean I am dead to the world?!"
"Nevermind that? What in the world are you wearing?" He says and I glance at my clothes.
"What is wrong with what I am wearing."
"... Aren't they a bit old?..."
"Old? I'll have you know I spent sixty silver coins for this! Do you know how expensive that is?" I glare at him.
"Uh... okay? Where have you been?"
"Alex! Maybe I can save him if I can go back in time..." I wander off searching for my things. I was going to do anything to save Alex. As I aimlessly walked around the lab such for my tools which were no where to be found Fred look at me shocked.
"Hey, what are you searching for?" He asks and and continue searching opening and closing drawers.
"Hey!" He shouts and startled I look at him.
"There's no time! I have to save him!" I say looking mournful and before I know it tears fall from my eyes and I turn away from him.
How could I forget what just happened?
"Hey... what is wrong? Why are you suddenly crying." Fred asks obviously concerned.
Unknowingly I rush and embrace him.
"I could have save him! If only he let me! Why did I come back? I couldn't even see his dead body! I have no right to live."
Fred rubs my back gently comforting me as I let out my emotions.
"Don't say such things... you do have a right to live... Let's go for coffee and when you are feeling better you will tell me everything." He says and I nod obediently.
We walk out of the company avoiding the stares that were about to swallow me.
Walking into the cafe, we are greeted by a beaming waitress. Though at first she was shocked.
"Welcome to JJ Cafe what can I get you?"
After ordering our coffee we sit and Fred looks at me silently. Of course there were others who occasionally stared at me for I looked peculiar.
"So..."Fred started breaking the silence between us.
"Are you okay with telling me what happened?"
I nod as the waitress walks over handing him his Latte and me my black coffee which I haven't had for a long time.
I take a sip and silently look around.
"I never knew a new cafe opened up?" I say hoping to lighten the mood.
"Of course you don't! You weren't here!"
"Right!" I say and sip my coffee. The silence between us increases and Fred who has not even touched his drink finally says
"You went to the past huh?"
"I am not necessarily sure but it wasn't the future?"
"So you finally did it? Created time travel?"
"Actually it was an accident."
"Oh so you accidentally travelled through time for real! Just like the movies!"he says excited drawing attention to as.
"Shh! Not so loud" I whisper and he mutters a sorry.
"I just got a little carried away... Anyway tell me everything that happened."
With that I carefully explain everything from the start to the last leaving out the part that I actually fell in love with Someone younger than me. I felt a little nostalgic as I thought of everything that had happened.
