Chapter 3: Chapter three

Where am I? How did I get here? Questions roamed my mind as I searched my surroundings. I was standing on a short section of a flat wooden bridge in my bare feet with crisp blue waters surrounded me from every angle. I spun around in a panic looking for somewhere to go but I was trapped, lost.

"Where am I!?" I yelled at the top of my lungs.

But there was no land or people or anything in sight. Only the sparkling waves of the bright blue water running over my feet. The sun was setting into the water, it looked as large as the tallest mountains. A sense of peace came over me as I watched the sun disappear halfway into the water, causing it to glow a lime green.

"Kristy?" a familiar voice said.

I spun around to see the glowing white figure of a woman standing only inches away. Their face was hidden by a large hood of a long white cloak. They lifted their hands out of their pockets and gently moved the hood off their head.

"Mother!?" I yelled.

My eyes opened wide to the sight of my fallen mother standing in front of my eyes. Before I could think she rushed forward in one swift movement, wrapping her arms around me. Without hesitation I wrapped my arms around her, squeezing her tight.

"Mom, I thought you were dead, I thought I was never going to see you again, this can't be real, can it?" I said, my eyes almost in tears.

She broke free from my arms and placed both of her hands on my shoulders, looking at me with amazement she placed one hand on my cheek.

"Baby girl, I have passed on from the land of the living," she said.

"I don't understand, if you died then how am I seeing you? How am I talking to you? How am I able to speak to you?" I asked her as she walked over to the edge of the platform.

A small section of dirt grew beneath her foot as she took a step off the bridge into the sparkling water below.

"Come my darling, I will explain what I can," she said while reaching out her hand.

Taking her hand, I stepped out with cation and followed her further into the calm water as a thin dirt path formed under our feet as we walked. The warm, very soft dirt felt soothing beneath my toes. Continuing to hold my mothers' hand, I let her guide me further into the waters, we were walking for less than ten minutes before she stopped. Releasing my hand, she turned away from me; I stood behind her as she lifted both her hands up into the sky.

A large shiny, sliver structure slowly appeared from the bottom up and before I knew it, a temple with large, thick walls and pure silver gates with fancy spikes on top stood before us. Mother spoke in a language I've never heard or read about before and the gates opened on their own.

"This is the temple of the in-between," she said after turning around to face me.

"It's beautiful," I said while being unable to take my eyes off of it.

"Whenever you need me most, I will be right here to help you, you will only be able to leave this place once you become submerged in the water," she said.

Before I could reply, she continued on "listen very closely, you will be tested in the near future. Let it be known right now that marriage never brings peace in kingdoms that are at war; It is always a trap for one kingdom, you must follow your own path, my dear" her voice becoming faint as she pushed me into the water. My last sight of her was her walking through the gates and disappearing.
