Chapter 3: Chapter 2 Manawell

Chapter 2

Contest

Daniel stepped into the colosseum as dust whipped around him, his vision was blurred but he stepped forward nonetheless and looked directly to the council seats, which reminded him of the emperor's seat in the circus maximus. He was determined. There was a stone raised platform in the center of the colosseum, with a microphone placed on it, this was the moment. 5 steps left. This would determine his life. 3 steps left. Thousands were watching. 2 steps left. Fear.

Daniel arrived at the platform, and grabbed the microphone, he was terrified, but they couldn't know that, he grabbed the mic and used the intro he had been practicing all this time

'I am Beacon, light of hope and the first spellcaster alive! I have the ability to control Mana in its entirety, I've practiced multiple forms of combat, and I'm going to win this!" Beacon yelled to the council, trying to make them understand how badly he wanted this. The second law of thermodynamics dictates that in all transfers, energy is lost. Today Daniel learned the same is true for speaking.

"Daniel "Beacon" Coatl, please proceed to the testing phase, there are three training models behind you, do your best to attack them"

Daniel turned around, still as nervous as before, and called upon his ability. As he started to grasp the tides of Mana surrounding the colosseum, the marks of his past started to glow, it felt like a fire running through his body, igniting every inch of his body like an arcane flame, eating away at his very being. However he was used to this, it happened every time he strained his power, the audience was shocked, however, as they saw forest tribe runes started to glow, and make themselves visible to the audience, and more importantly, the council. He called upon as much mana as he could to create an attack, and created a simple concussive blast by compressing Mana into a dart, and launched it at the dummy, leaving a scorched splotch and a melted indent in the dummy. He turned to the next dummies and stockpiled two shots and launched them off at the same time. Then turned to the council and returned to the platform.

"Daniel "Beacon" Coatl, please proceed to the agility phase, there is a course to the right of you, press the button at the beginning and then press the other button as fast as possible without leaving the bound of the course." Daniel new this would happen, and didn't know what to do about it, as he knew he could increase his speed, but he wasn't talented enough to do so yet. So he started running through the course, jumping over vaults and under bars. He was rather agile, but nothing supernatural. He returned to the platform, slightly disappointed with his time, yet it was good enough to not be detrimental to his chances. All he could do now is wait for the results. He sat on the floor of the platform and racked his mind to try and find any mistakes he may have made, anything he could've done better, when he was pulled out of his thoughts by the announcer speaking yet again.

"Please pay your attention to the council, as the votes have been decided"

The council members stood up, Beacon finally got to see them, as they were not previously visible from the colosseum. He saw his heroes, literally and figuratively, Lux, Wildfire, Cross, and Drayk. The votes showed up on the screen below their seat, Lux voted no, shit, lux is the #2 hero. Wildfire voted yes, which is good, she's #4. Cross voted yes, and she's #1! One left, he already secured a chance to succeed, now he needed one more vote to guarantee. Although that'd be a bit idealistic, wouldn't it. Drayke, the last vote, was a no, Beacon would have to fight for this opportunity.
