Chapter 21: Yes It Was A Smile.

The next few days were hectic. I had to travel for a business meeting and yes you guessed right I couldn't continue to postpone and avoid it so I just had to reluctantly go, it was a deal nobody could close for me.

I got reports every day on Katie and Sunshine. Andrew made sure of it if not he will get a very grouchy boss to contend with "_". Oh yes I got it that bad.

I heard Katie is improving every day, she moved to solid food today and her injuries are healing. Dr. Robert thinks she might need some physiotherapy to walk again, especially as she broke one of her legs during the accident.

Also I was told she has been asking a lot of questions, how she got injured, how she got here, why is she not in the hospital, when she gave birth, if her baby was alive, where her baby was. Yes her memories are all coming back but her doctors seem to think she is remembering some things and not some; selective memory they call it. Her mind seems to be repressing some memories probably because of the trauma associated with it.

As for my baby Sunshine my mother will not stop raving about how she is smiling a lot, making baby sounds etc. Honestly it just makes me miss her more ...and I feel I'm missing so much, I have never seen her really smile.

You will not believe yesterday we spent 45 minutes on the phone because my mother was trying to get Sunshine to make baby sounds but guess what she fell asleep on us. We probably overwhelmed her ..ah we adults!

I finished my work and looking at the time, I decided to head to the airport. No need spending this night here. I'm going home.

--------------------------------

I was awoken up the next morning by my mother knocking and walking in with Sunshine in her arms.

Yes, I should have waited for you to acknowledge my knock in case you were naked and give me permission to come in but I gave birth to you; "I ''ve seen it all" she said smiling as she stood by my bed.

Good morning Mum I said rubbing my eyes, considering the time I came in I was not ready to wake up but what can a man do; With two beautiful ladies right in front of me I had to wake up.

Good morning to you too, here is your baby girl my mother said handing Sunshine over to me.

Hey Sunny. I said smiling at her and giving her a kiss on her cheeks.

So, how are you and what have you being up to? I asked her and she just stared at me. I have being reading about 2 month old babies, that their hearing is improving at this stage and she will especially enjoy listening to the sound of my voice. Yeah that made me smile.

I love talking to her, like now she just stares adorably back at me listening I believe. Even though 2-month old babies can't talk back, I read they will respond to the sound of your voice, and it will encourage them to start forming their own first words in the coming months....so I continued to talk to her.

Once in a while she will tap at the colorful art painting hanging on the wall behind my bed.

Do you know she even briefly held a toy that was placed in one of her hands yesterday my mother said excitedly

Really ? Wow, you are becoming a big girl I said to Sunny who rewarded me with a sweet coo.

Yeah, that's it. Let's have a smile girly I said smiling at her but that's didn't come out as smile.

I was planning to take her to see her mother, but she doesn't know yet I'm told but Dr. Robert thinks it's time she is told my mother said

I know, I will do it mother soon. I might have to explain about the accident.

Are you sure, because I heard she doesn't remember how she got there to the road where your car hit her down.

I signed wondering how I was going to go about it, I have to be careful, she remembered she was pregnant but not how she got pregnant; the wonders of the human mind.

The Specialist that we brought in told us, it might take her years to fully regain her memories especially with the abuse that she has suffered. She might have gaps in her memory, remembering only things that didn't cause her pain and that we've to be very patient.

Let me leave you two love birds my mother said I have a meeting, as she was leaving she asked should I call her nanny to come get her?

No, I got this I answered smiling.

Okay ....daddy she said laughing. Don't forget she will soon get hungry...and also don't forget to check her diapers, also don't tire her out...

Okay mum, okay I got your check list I said laughing. Off you go, waving her out.

She left laughing too.

Sunshine made a few gurgles and baby sounds and I think she recognizes my face and voice, and responds to them. She has really grown in height and weight, and can be very friendly especially when she just finishes eating.

As we were on my bed playing with her favorite teddy, I took her in my arms with her face very close to mine, smiling widely at her and said a warm "hello" in a sing-song pitch voice.

I'm trying to get Sunshine to smile and this is my fourth attempts. Okay I give up, I said smiling at her. We just cuddled, played and I talked to her some more.

Then I noticed on her face ..something that looks like the first hint of a adorable smile. Yes it was a smile and I got it on video. I smiled back at her like she's the best thing since sliced bread. which, really, she is.

Wow she is so beautiful...and developing really well socially.
