Chapter 1: Redheads, Red Faces

I sat next to my father's throne, unimpressed and frankly displeased by the hostages brought out as if it were a some sort of dog show.

It was one after another,  going on with no end in sight.

They all looked the same. They were all thin, covered in dirt and sweat, and held a look of terror in their eyes. I suppose you couldn't blame them. They'd be my siblings, or my parents, servants, and though it was wrong, there wasn't much I could do until I in control.

Training one slave can be hard enough, but more than one? I don't know what they are thinking. But chances are they'd forget about them within a week.

"Ooo! I claim the blonde one!" Ellie screeched, pointing at a smaller girl that lord Jeffery just brought out. She had blonde hair, and was rather small, no matter what side you looked at her.

Ellie was my mother's top servant, though she had started off as a slave herself. She was treated just as well as us, but no one dared to question it. The blonde left, escorted by a guard.

Jeffery whistled, and as if on cue, a man in muddy overalls came out. This time, it was my father who took another piece from the board. "I take him. He looks like a worker. Are you?"

The man kept his eyes downcast. "Yes, sir."

"Perfect. You'll do well in the laboring camp. Got a build project coming up for you." He grinned and waved his hand, dismissing the poor man.

Another girl came out. Blonde hair, green eyes. Her eyes scanned the room as she tapped her fingers against her side. My mother sat up straight and leaned forwards, then smiled. "She's mine!"

"What a cutie! You've always chosen the absolute best, Amber." Was the response Ellie gave.

Remarks like that continued far past sundown, and I was about to fall asleep when the room grew quiet. I opened my eyes, watching Lord Jeffery drag out a male with bright red hair- Almost as red as his face was.

He didn't look scared, no, he looked pissed.  He fought Jeffery the whole way out, kicking and trying to get away. He finally stopped his little fit when two guards pushed him onto his knees. If the gag weren't in his mouth, I'm positive he would've bitten the guards.

His eyes began to scan the room, as if searching for something. I sat and quietly prayed he wouldn't try to run; It would be such a shame for blood so young to be poured on the castle floors.

"We apologize your majesties, we should've left this one... Or killed it." He said it as if it were a threat to the boy, who stayed unfazed by the remark. "I'm afraid he's misbehaved the whole way here, and he shows no sign of ever being an obedient... Servant." Jeffery began, looking rather worried and tried to step in front of the boy. He may of managed blocked my family's view, by not mine. I could see the slave holding his middle finger to us.

But my fathers gasp led me to the conclusion that Jeffery hadn't blocked his view, either.

"Maybe," I looked at my father as he spoke up, then to the boy. I could've sworn I saw worry in his eyes, but it seemed to disappear just as it came. He pushed himself into a proper, upright position as he waited for my father to speak again. But before he got a chance, I spoke.

"I'll take him."

Jeffery looked at me with wide eyes, jaw dropping slightly. He starred at me for a second, though a second too long. My father cleared his throat, earning Jeffery's attention. He shook his head and gave a quite laugh.

"Your Majesty, with all due respect, we should simply send him off for labor."

"With my good, obedient sl- citizens?" My father asked, laughing. "Not a chance. That's the type of brat to spring a rebellion."

"We could send him to the chambers?" Came Jeffery's quick response. He was a fast thinking man, especially when it came to pleasing the king.

"Let's simply kill him, dears. It'll save all of us the trouble." My mother smiled and stood, clasping her hands together.

"Nonsense!" I interrupted quickly as I stood from my seat.

"He simply needs to learn his place. He looks younger than the rest. He is, isn't he? You all know what poor, uneducated children are like. They think and act irrationally, especially if he is scared. I don't see any reason for him not to be." I paused.

I glanced towards my family, who looked down as me as if I were filth upon their sparkling floors.

"There is no reason we should try to kill him- he will make a fine slave once I train him enough." I said, standing up and walking down, kneeling in front of the scowling redhead. His eyes were narrowed to an almost inhuman extent.

I nodded to Jeffery, who stepped forwards and took the gag off of the boy.

"What is your name?" I asked. He looked up at me, his lip curling into a snarl. I began to think he was more of a rabid dog type.

"Fuck'ya." He spat. I bit my lip and glanced towards my parents, both of whose faces had turned red. Ellie put her hand over Evas ears, but it was too late. She brushed her hands away, then looked to my mother.

"Oh, an odd name, isn't it?" My sister asked, smiling as the red head scowled. My mother and father quickly silenced her.

The boy looked to her, then rolled his eyes. "Are you dense?" He questioned, earning an unapproving frown from my father.

I smiled, taking the chains from Jeffery's hands.

"Well I am prince William, but to you it will be Sir. If you call me anything other than such, we will have problems." I stated. To the side, my mother smiled and clapped as if the treatment were something good. I'd never been a fan of slavery, not at all . once I became king, it would be the first too go.

The boy looked at me with and laughed, but said that was the end of any conversation until my father broke the silence with a gruff "Well? Get on with it, William. Mark him as a slave of Magni."
