Chapter 2: Chapter 2- The Powers

There was a light knock on the door. Not too invasive yet, firm enough for it to disturb the peace of the house.

Amara was now living on her own, a small shelter-like house in the middle of nowhere suited her needs for the exploration of her magic. Vines covered the wooden walls, the roof was made of coloured glass, changing from a pale blue to yellow to a warm shade of orange to black, according to the feelings of the resident. As for the house, cozy was not enough to describe it. A fireplace was sitting in a corner opposite of the door, a bookshelf right next to the door leading to the master bedroom. A coffee table was the only furniture apart from the bookshelf that decorated the room, Amara had resulted in sitting on pillows, most of them the same colour as the floor, which they were covering most of. The master bedroom in which Amara was sleeping was decorated with a tall bed, the walls around it felt heavy with ornaments of all sorts, such as jewelry, crowns, coins out of currency, all of which were hanging from the wall and were impossible to remove. There were three other bedrooms, all of them empty, each of them more and more creepy.

Amara was sipping tea when she heard the knock on the door. She immediately placed her cup on the coffee table and put her book down. She then proceeded in picking up her pocket knife from her left leather boot, no one ever visited her. Amara opened the door cautiously and a young man was revealed on her porch.

The man seemed fit, in his middle twenties. He was wearing a loose shirt showing an idea of his bare chest, his tights pants were cuffed just above his leather boots which were covered in dirt, horse droppings and another substance that Amara wasn't sure she wanted to know anything about, although her senses recognised the crimson colour which matched perfectly with the man's red hair. His eyes were bright blue with hints of yellow and freckles took over most part of his nose and the part of his chest that was on full display.

Amara was taken back. The man's piercing blue eyes made her feel an overwhelming sense of joy and warmth filled her body even though her house was well heated, it seemed as though this man woke a new sensation in her. However she wouldn't let it take over her. She knew how strong she was, even without magic. She gripped the pocket knife harder and opened her mouth with determination.

"Who are you and what do you want?" she asked firmly, watching the edge of the man's mouth twitch upwards.

"My name is Thuban and I'm here to help you." he said politely, bowing his head just bellow the point were his nose was a moment ago.

"I don't need help" Amara exclaimed in a dynamic start. "Although I could use some herbs if you were selling them."

"Are you not a witch?" Thuban took a step back, finally acknowledging the pocket knife which was still in Amara's hand.

"None of your business." she said, gripping the knife even harder as though her life depended on it. "Good day, sir." she finished with, formally enough to have the privilege of closing the door to his face, something she proceeded on doing. She turned her back on the door as it was closing behind her, yet, the loud noise of closure didn't produce itself. Amara looked back at the door, the man had put his foot between it and the porch and was now pushing the door open. A crimson shade filled the room, hints of purple decorating it. Amara wasn't sure what this meant exactly but she wouldn't surrender without a fight. She gripped the knife even harder and felt the adrenaline rush through her veins as she placed the metal part of it on his neck.

"What do you want?" she asked, angrier than ever as the room was now filled with more patches of purple and orange.

"Just to help. Just...let me explain what I'm here for, I can't do that with a knife on my neck!"

"I'm sorry, do I look like I want to die today? I'm a black witch who lives in a house without a husband or children. And a white man comes into my door saying how much he wants to help me. I'm not buying it."

"Okay, I'll explain like this. The High Court sent me, they can sense your sensitivity with magic, they sent me as your mentor to guide you through a safer way of practicing it. See?" he said smiling softly at Amara as he let his magic guard down for it to reveal itself. A beautiful light filled the room, this time of white and blue patches decorating the room. Amara put down her knife and closed the door behind the man, letting him inside her house.

"Thank you for trusting me, Amara."

"Don't get used to it, I only did it to make sure you're as magical. That doesn't mean you're not dangerous to me. Now...how do you plan on helping me? I've tried everything that I could but my magic won't reveal itself to me. I can still make potions and communicate with spirits, just not with my magic."

"Fascinating"

"I'm not your little experiment Thuban."

"Never said you were. Now...what can you do with your magic?" he asked curiously, his long fingers tangled under his chin, the end of a sharp jawline.

"I can float, I can make things around me fly, I can put on my guard, I can let down my guard, I can make green and black dust float around me and..." Amara thought to herself as she played with the tip of her hair "I can talk to animals, even though I'm not sure if it's my magic or something I inherited."

"Fascinating..." he repeated, with a more sceptical look on his face. "Have you ever studied magic? Do you know the types?"

"Of course!" she said, as she was offended by his assumptions. She pulled a thick book from the bookshelf titled: 'Types of Magic: Acceptable and Unacceptable uses and their meanings" and started reading the Acceptable section. "The Green Magic. When one is filled with the love for nature so they use its resources, such as the elements, for healing and other similar purposes.

The Space Blue magic. People with this specific type of magic have the ability of extracting their power from the moon, the stars and any space event that has happened 100 years ago and will happen 100 years in the future. It's a type of magic that is inherited from generation to generation. People named after constellations and stars most likely possess it.

The Purple Magic. This type of magic is the rarest and one of the most powerful ones. It is revealed in someone from their first year of life. It is an unstable type of magic, deadly if not pared with another type of Acceptable magic and deadly if pared with a type of Unacceptable one. Fortunately, it is mostly pared with the White type, which will be explained later in this section.

The Amaranth Pink Magic. This is a type of magic most common in people with pure hearts. Although it is very common, many tend not to practice it as it is a weak type of magic. With that said, others have found ways of practicing it, either by pairing it with a stronger type, or by falling in love, as the magic itself is enhanced by the said action. The White Magic. This is also one of the rarest and strongest pieces of magic. It represents serenity, intelligence and maturity. This type of magic reveals itself at times of vulnerability and inner strength. Merlin possessed this type." Amara stopped reading and took a sip of her tea, not bothering to offer any to her guest.

"May I read the Unacceptable section?"

"I know how to read, thank you very much." Amara said defensively as she kept reading.

"The Yellow Magic. This is not one of the most common types, yet, it is still plaguing the Wizarding community. Literally. The people who possess it can wish death or sickness upon others, can create a new illness and can manipulate fate. However, it is not the strongest type, unless paired with another. Unfortunately, witches who pair it with Green Magic lose their abilities and remain as common humans for the rest of their lives.

The Azure Blue Magic. People who possess this kind of magic can control the meteors as well as the star signs, causing a pitiful fate to anyone affected. It is also passed from generation to generation and people named after Greek figures or star signs probably possess it.

The Black Magic. There's no document as to what Black Magic can do or how it originated. What can be said however, even though not with the most confidence is that this type is chaotic. A mixture of all magical abilities can be found within this one, the dominant one is the best enhanced one. How we, in many cases, none of the magic is dominant, meaning that death has or will occur around the said person, until they die of a painful and slow death."

"What type of magic do you think you have?"

"Green? Maybe White. I love reading, and I'm stable enough, mentally I mean. Plus, I can talk to animals and I have lots of plants, none of which died in my hands." Amara said confidently, even though the confidence was fake.

"I have the Space Blue Magic. As you probably conducted by my name. Don't worry" he immediately said as he watched Amara fending for her knife. "I can promise that I don't have the Azure type. Can I show you?" he offered his hand politely and Amara took it. They walked outside, it was dark, the sun had set but they didn't realise it from inside the house, white and orange patches could still be seen from the garden. Thuban closed his eyes, his hand still entwined with Amara's as the air shifted and a blue moon from 100 years ago could be seen by both of them now.

"It's beautiful" Amara exclaimed, her green eyes fixed upon it.

"Yeah..." said Thuban, not really paying attention to the moon but to the witch next to him. "Beautiful..." he smiled to himself and shifted the air again, bringing back to the present. "Do you trust me now?" he asked softly.

"I do...What do we have to do to get my magic revealed?"
