Chapter 4: The set up
Mindy's POV
I was still lost, "did my superman just ignore me?"I asked myself not too certain.
The same guy who could not refuse me or keep his eyes off me had just snubbed me.
I saw him go into the cafe' and so with the rose in my hand I followed.
I went in and saw the place was busy and I managed to site him at the counter. The car would take a few minutes so I decided to kill time.
He moved about and I just kept quiet and followed keeping quiet. I was about to say something then asked myself what to talk about.
"Hey am the woman who you got into an accident with and gave a ride. Then you gave me a rose to appreciate my looks and then left me."
Then he'll be like;
"oh yeah I missed you lets make out and get married"
I chuckled and did not notice him stare at me.
I froze like a statue and didn't know if I should laugh or cry. He didn't let me decide he walked out holding a capacuino and sat down. It was an opportunity for me as every other table was occupied.
I hesitantly sat down and stared at him trying to make out his reaction.
Then I thought of the possibility that he might have forgotten me.
I just had to give this theory a try and see the results.
"I recall meeting you a day or two near the bridge" I said trying to seem casual and relaxed around him.
I crossed my fingers for his reply to be positive.
"Yes, I crashed your car" he said and I sighed which I knew confused him.
I was glad to know he had not forgotten about me. I was about to ask him something that would confuse him even more.
"Well since the place is packed am hoping I could sit here too" I kept wondering what he was going to say next.
Melendez
I didn't believe our paths would cross again. After our car ride I had already starting developing mixed feelings for her.
She was very beautiful and really attractive to me.
It was the first time that I could not focus on anything I did.
She stole my emotions when she glanced at me.
During our car ride I was mesmerized by her innocence. I thought I would crash the car.
Having her in my company is something I simply adored.
But after I found out that she was married and had a son I could not help but get mad.
I was mad at myself for not realising that such a beautiful angel was taken.
I had to disappear before my feelings started blossoming into something else.
I hoped not to see her again but now she was sitting right across me. Asking if she could sit at my table. I can't refuse her or I'll pass off as a jerk.
Mindy
Am an idiot why am I even sitting here. It's really obvious that he doesn't want to see me no wonder he avoided me.
Am probably inconviencing him I should leave now and hope my car is fixed.
As I stood up to leave, I heard his voice say;
"Of course you can sit here"
I was so happy that he let me sit with him.
Melendez
I can't seem like a jerk to her I care about her. Not in a lustful way but as a friend.
I got a reminder on my phone about a meeting and stood up.
"Sorry I have to leave but thank you for your company I'll pay the bills."I quickly said.
I speedily left, it wasn't really important that I attend but I couldn't stand her. I couldn't stand looking at her because it only reminded me of what I couldn't get.
Mindy
I just knew it!
He was feeling sorfocated with me around me. I could be so persistent at times.
Maybe I seemed too desperate and a bit clingy thats why he tried to escape.
I was sending off wrong signals.
The waiter had been calling on me for a while but I was lost in thought.
"That man has been looking for you for a while"the waiter said.
I hoped that it was the mechanic so that my misery could end. I got my bag and went outside the repairman was almost done.
I got in my car after paying the man I was in a bad mood then I remembered I had a meeting. I was getting forgetful, the board members would probably never let me hear the end of it.
After half an hour I got to the company I rushed to the boardroom to see everyone sitted and suprisingly playing cards!
"What is the meaning of this?" I asked almost screaming my head off.
"Well Mrs Bowen both you and the Santo's aren't ready to attend this meeting. You two can't leave us here bored so i had a deck of cards and it turns out we all play well so.."David said.
"The client still did not attend this meeting again it is now becoming unprofessional" I said.
How dare he!
He's lucky that i wasn't here or else I would get real mad.
"Madam here's the details for your private meeting with Mr Santos later this evening" my assistant said.
Everyone did not pay me any attention they were busy playing cards. I left in shame I couldn't even look them in the eye.
In my office I got an email from Mr Santos himself.
"Do you like Chinese food?"
I rolled my eyes and hissed
"Why weren't you at the meeting"
He had to answer me now there was no escape.
I was caught up in some personal matters but am free tonight"
"What is that suppose to mean"
"What do you think it means?😏
"I don't know what to expect do i come with my assistant Lisa"
"No need just show up looking beautiful"
"Well that i can do"
"See you then my lady I'll be waiting for you".
He is so confusing what does he aim at proving by being stubborn just sign and give us the money.
"The things I put up for you Adam" I thought to myself.
I opened my bag and saw a chain in it and it caught me by suprise.
It was plain and elegant it had the letter "L" written boldly on it. I tried to recall when i got this chain from but I couldn't.
I got home expecting to see Linda already packed but she was busying on her phone.
She had her legs crossed on my couch and the T.v was left on
"Linda why aren't you out of here already" I asked. She pretended not to have heard me and continued using her phone.
"Are you deaf or something I said get off that couch and leave my house" I said.
"Madam that's not how it works now is it, I don't want to leave here am attached to this house" Linda said.
The nerve of some people.
"I've sent you your money so fulfil your end of the deal and get lost"I said.
"No I don't think so and there's nothing you can do about it"she said, feeling high and mighty.
I was about to slap her but she held up a document which said restraining order.
"You got a retraining order against me?" I asked looking priceless.
'Yes of course now I'd appreciate it if you'd let me be" Linda said.
I wasn't gonna stand there and let her talk trash like that.
"I don't care if you got a restraining order but I won't say this again get out".
Mark came downstairs and he looked really worried he ran to my arms.
"Mum what's going on?" Mark asked, still trying to wrap his head around the situation.
"Linda was about to start leaving"I informed him.
"Can I come with her?" Mark asked
It was a dumb question to me I wasn't gonna be blunt with him
"Mark your mummy is mad at me for letting you watch football at your friend's house and she's firing me" Linda said.
False!
How could she lie to my face how dare she.
I was about to tell Mark all about her but I couldn't.
I can't tell him I was at prison he worries about me and he would get crushed.
That's what game that woman was playing with me really smart of her.
"Mum I won't let you throw Linda out of here" Mark said.
First of all rude!. Am the mom here I get the final say in this.
"Mark stay out of this alright it's none of your business" I said.
"Linda has loved me ever since I was a baby and taken care if me. I cant let go of her" Mark said.
"Madam please I don't know what my fault was but am extremely sorry about it. But..." She said and hugged Mark and kissed his cheek.
"I won't be able to live without him in my life" Linda said.
The nerve!
She was speaking of double of her salary a moment ago without even thinking of Mark. Now she's playing innocent and loving.
"Mum Linda is staying and that's it" Mark said quite rude.
He picked up her bag and held her hand and led her to her room.
"Over my dead body will she stay here!" I screamed back at him as he left with Linda.
I was so angry for being played by that woman am such an idiot!
My phone beeped it was Lisa, gosh not now am way too upset.
"Mr Santos has called and confirmed your dinner date tonight. It is by eight pm madam at the new Chinese restaurant."
I sighed I was tired of this why won't he just reveal his identity already. I reluctantly left to my room to get dressed.
A while later...
I could hear voices in the kitchen and I recognised it to be Linda and Mark's. I stopped to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Dear do you know your mum is busy getting ready to go out meanwhile your so upset. That's very bad of her" Linda said and gave him some ice cream.
"I don't know why moms so angry at you and now she's upset with me" Mark said.
"No she's not! If she was then she'd be here in the kitchen talking to you" Linda said.
"She doesn't care at all"
I was really mad now I kept on tapping my hands and started looking round the room. How dare her she was feeding my son all sort of lies.
"Mark am just scared to leave you alone with her" Linda said.
"Why? She's my mum she won't do anything to hurt me. Would she? "Mark asked.
"Honestly Mark I don't know I just can't bare to loose you" Linda said and put her hand on his.
"I won't let you leave me" Mark said,
"Your mum will get mad at me again if I don't leave. You heard her she said over her dead body." Linda said.
"Mum will have to understand and I won't let you leave me" Mark said and they both hugged.
I went in and pulled Linda "I need to speak with you in private now" I said. Mark was so lost at our gestures and I had him sent to his room.
"I gave you your money so why are you still here and why are you poisoning my sons mind. You are a gold digger! You want to use my own son against me so cruel and yet so smart.
Now I've had enough of this now get the he'll out of my house"I said.
As I turned to leave my hand knocked over her bag and a bracket fell out of it.
It looked so nice and expensive Linda could not afford it in her dreams. But with the kind of money she has now in her account she could afford ten of them.
Strangest thing it had the initial "L" on it just like the necklace.
"Linda is that yours?" I asked, eyeing it suspiciously.
"Yes" she snapped back and picked it up. I brought out the necklace from my purse and held it up.
"Is this also yours?" I asked very sure there was something amiss.
"Yeah how did you get that I've been looking for it for a while now" Linda said.
As I was about to give it to her I snatched it back to myself.
"This looks so precious to you how did you get it?"I asked.
I wanted to play my own little game with her.
"Well it is some special gave it to me" Linda said.
"Well then it's only fair if you tell me this person. Then I might give this back to you a fair trade."I said.
"You want to play with me now don't you? Well then, if you know the identity of this person you might just get so upset." Linda said.
Now I was really interested in what she had to say.
Linda sighed and gave me a twisted smile and went round the room faced backward.
"It was Adam, your late husband and my secret lover...."
