Chapter 3: Everyday

The ceiling looked familiar. I looked left to find the same black poster of Pink Floyd. I let the alarm ring for as long as I took to accept the reality that I had to live the same day again. I know that it is the second alarm for the morning and that it was already past eight. I know that mom would be leaving in half an hour. I know that if I didn't get up now, I wouldn't see her until late tonight. Despite that, I tap the alarm clock and pulling the sheets up, try to dive into some peaceful sleep again. I lay like that for another 10 minutes until I realize that I have a pool of sweat around me. Despite the air conditioned room, I find it hard to sleep with my sheets pulled all the way up. It was hard. Everything was. I sat up witnessing the minute hand strike 9. Fifteen more minutes until mother left. Her workplace is a half an hour drive from home so she left at 9. Filling my lungs to their utmost capacity, I climbed down the bed.

It barely took me 10 minutes to shower and be right back in the room. At the precision of 08:56, I walked down the stairs to see mom drinking the last of her pomegranate juice. No verbal greetings followed until she looked up.

"Ayy you up," she said.

I only waved my hand with a modest smile.

"Eat something before you leave for school." That's all she found appropriate to say before gettig up to leave.

"Have a good day mom", I tried.

"You too son, you too."

I sighed and walked into the kitchen. Opening the fridge, I looked for something, anything. Broccoli, beans and a carton of milk. That's what I saw in there. The meagre ration kills me. If only there were some eggs left, if only!

I knew there were cereals somewhere in the cabinet but it was a hot morning and I was too lazy to look for them.

So I just gulped some milk and walked back to my room. I needed to eat something. I definitely did. After mom told me to, I just couldn't leave without eating. I looked everywhere for the protein bars I bought last week. I looked inside my wires cupboard. It had to be there. That's where I kept them. Struggling to untangle the pile of mess I had, I somehow, at last found my ProNuttys.

That was all I needed. I opened the packet briskly, as if it had done me every wrong.

I then ate the bar in three big bites.

I picked up my backpack and decided the time good enough to leave for school.

Driving my Honda to school brought back memories of time when I found it filled with goey slime.

I was bullied?

No.

It was always a prank.

And i was used to it.

I had a good build since secondary school but I never raised a finger against those punks.

Jacob's was famous for it's pranks. I believed I was just a little too unfortunate in this matter.

My classes began from 10 a.m. This morning, I had left sharp at 9:35. It took me sixteen minutes to get to school, given the time I spent saving a pup on the way.

Five minutes for me to get to my locker and three minutes to reach my first class. Despite that, I wasted a minute staring at the flamingo sticker on my locker but surprisingly, made to the class in time.
