Chapter 3: Tracking
2b's POV
"Still no response from anyone?" I asked 9s
"We got a couple of androids who are coming to us but other than that no." replied 9s
"Any sign of the machines moving?" asked A2
"Not yet." replied 9s
"Strange." I whispered, "It's been two weeks since we transmitted the signal and yet still no response from the machines?"
"They might be forming up who knows." replied 9s
"9s is right, they may be gathering their forces for an all out attack." implied Avery
"We won't stand a change then." said 9s
"We have to come up with a plan." I implied
"Let's go to Anemone to set up a plan." said A2
We head back to camp where Anemone and Creed were at a table talking about something.
"Anemone, we may need to come up with a plan." I said to Anemone
"That's what we were just talking about." replied Anemone
Creed turns and looked at us but immediately turns back around, avoiding eye contact with Avery.
"I have something to do, I'll be right back." said Creed as he turns and leaves us.
"Where's he going?" I ask
"I sent him on a mission back in the desert." replied Anemone
"Alone?" I asked
Anemone nodded in response.
"Shouldn't you have sent someone with him?" asked Avery, "You don't know what he might do."
"I trust him, he's going to get the mission done." replied Anemone
"You're trusting the wrong person, he's probably out there looking for a way to escape." said Avery
"Then I'll go follow him, it should be fine right?" interrupts A2
I looked at A2 who just stood there looking at us with an expressionless face.
"I don't see a problem there." said Anemone
"I'll trail behind him and report everything he does." replied A2
A2 was about to leave but Avery stops her.
"Do me a favor though." said Avery
A2 looks at Avery with an eyebrow raised.
"Kill him if he does anything that puts us in danger." said Avery
"What?" I asked
"He's a liability and I don't trust him." said Avery
"But you can't just kill the last man standing in this planet." I said
"Proposal to A2, arrest Creed if he does anything dangerous." said Pod 042
"We can interrogate him if he does anything that can put us in danger." said 9s
"Fine, but I'll be the one interrogating him." said Avery
A2 leaves the camp while Avery goes to her apartment.
"So, about the plan." said Anemone
"We have a couple of androids coming our way to stay with us." said 9s
"Yes, but we may also have some machine activity." I added
"They're most likely going to come from the desert so the only way here is through the south western part." said Anemone
"How are we going to defend the city?" asked 9s
"We're going to set up booby traps all around that perimeter." said Anemone, "After that we let them in just a bit and we take on the left overs."
"Look this force is going to be bigger than the previous battles we had." I said
"That's why we're going to use all the firepower and weapons we have." replied Anemone, "You guys are going to be with a couple of YoRHa model androids near the entrance to the city."
"Why?" I asked
"Cutting off the enemy is an effective way to achieve victory." said Pod 153
"Yes, and we can finish off the enemies between your squad and the others." said Anemone
"But what about the machine's reinforcements?" I asked
"I'm going to have an engineering squad set up more traps behind us, if we can't hold the reinforcements off, we're going to have to retreat but through the buildings." said Anemone
"But wouldn't they just follow us into the building?" I asked
"We're going have to blow up the entrance, forcing the reinforcements to go into our traps." said Anemone
I looked at the map with a bunch of circles and arrows written on the map.
"What about the humans?" I asked
"We're going to have to sit them out." said Anemone, "We can't risk both of them dying, they're our future."
"That's good." said 9s
"2b, 9s, you know, if you go down, we can't save you." said Anemone
I look at 9s who looked pretty scared from that fact.
"So please, take care of each other." said Anemone
"We will." I replied
"When is this going to happen?" asked 9s
"When Creed comes back with more information." replied Anemone
"What about the androids who are coming in?" asked 9s
"They have to fight as well." I replied
"Oh, okay." replied 9s
"So we just need to wait until Creed gets back right?" I asked
"Yea, but you can follow A2 as well." said Anemone
"I think that'll be better than just sitting here." said 9s
"Good, let's go right now." I said
9s and I left the camp and ran after A2.
"Pod, give me a location on A2." I ordered my pod
"Scanning, A2 is currently on a roof of the tallest building 1 mile from this location." said Pod 042
We ran towards the building and we headed up to the roof to see A2 kneeling down on the edge, looking down.
"A2, what are you looking at?" asked 9s
"Oh, you guys are following me?" asked A2
"Yes." I replied
"Okay, look down there." said A2
I looked down over the edge of the roof and saw Creed slowly walking on the streets looking at the moose eating grass.
"What's he doing?" asked 9s
"No idea, but he's a slow walker for sure." said A2
"How long have you been here?" I asked
"At least 5 minutes." she replied
"Just walking?" I asked back
A2 nodded and looked at me.
"He hasn't done anything suspicious though." she said
"Oh, Anemone told us her plan if the machines attack the city ruins." said 9s
"Okay, brief me later." replied A2
"Wait, he's moving." I interrupted
Creed started jogging down the streets, through alleys, buildings and streams of water.
"He's been running for 20 minutes." said 9s
"So?" questioned A2
"Don't they usually get tired? I mean, humans have a limit to moving excessively." 9s pointed out
"Are you trying to say he's not human?" I asked
"No, it's just, he's better than the humans?" 9s' answer sounded mored like a question than an answer.
"Let's just keeping moving." I replied
We continued running until we got to the desert zone.
"His mission should start soon." said A2
"Pod record everything he does." I ordered
"Understood, recording." replied Pod 042
We kept our distance from Creed as he kept jogging through the desert, ignoring every machine that was next to him.
"I wonder, why he's skipping all the machines." questioned 9s
We continued to move deeper into the desert until we got to this huge factory sitting in the middle of nowhere, and to me, it looks like it was there for centuries. The factory was probably deep in the sand and it was probably not even recognizable as a factory, more like a blown up castle.
"Contact Anemone." I said
My Pod showed me a screen and there Anemone popped up.
"What is it?" she asked
"Did you assign Creed to go the factory where he came out from?" I asked
"No, he should be on the other side of the desert." she replied
"See, this is exactly what I was saying." interrupted Avery
Avery's face shows up next to Anemone.
"2b, contain Creed, kill him if necessary." she said before leaving the scree,
The transmission stopped and I looked at A2.
"Should we do it?" I asked
"Let's give him a warm surprise first." replied A2
Creed's POV
I entered the room filled with pods that had dead corpses of soldiers.
'Someone has to do them a favor.'
But before I could get started a tip of a sword was placed right at my neck.
"What are you doing here?" asked 2b
I looked at her and saw 2b standing there with her sword pointing at my neck. I looked around and saw A2 on my right and 9s behind me.
"You were assigned to the other side of this factory but why are you here?" asked 2b
I looked at her and sighed.
"Do you know what differentiates humans with androids?" I asked
"What?" asked 2b
"We bury our dead." I replied, "While androids, don't."
"Bury the dead?" questioned 9s
"Just let me do what I came here to do." I said as I pushed the sword away.
A2 immediately blocks my path and I just sighed.
"Look, this isn't going to put us in danger so just please let me do these dead soldiers a favor." I said.
I pushed a button and a pod opened, revealing the dead corpse.
"What are you doing?" asked A2
"Like I said," I replied, "we bury our dead."
I pull up my scarf to cover my mouth and nose and I grabbed the grabbed the skeleton which surprisingly still in tact. I brought it outside and started to dig a whole and then put the corpse inside then covered it with sand.
"That's what you do with your dead?" asked 9s
I nodded in response and continued with the remaining corpses.
