Chapter 5: Izumi Natsumura 2

"THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!" yells president Fujimoto. "I TOLD YOU TO PICK ALL FLYERS UP AND NOT TO PUT THEM UP ANYMORE, AND WHAT DID YOU DO?! YOU WENT TO THE DRESSING ROOM AND THREW AND PUT A BUCH OF FLYERS IN THERE!"

This is a nuissance.

"DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY COMPLAINTS I RECEIVED YESTEDAY FROM THE SOCCER TEAM?! IT'S UNBELIEVABLE, YOU AREN'T EVEN A CLUB AND YOU'RE A BIGGER PIECE OF WORK THAT ALL CLUBS ALLTOGETHER!"

President Fujimoto's a nuissance.

"EVEN THE SCHOOL'S DIRECTIVES SCOLDED ME BECAUSE OF YOU!"

They scolded us too: they took us outta class (and I was just sleeping there, minding my own business) just to give us a report and tell us they wanted to speak with our parents.

Ha. Good luck with that.

"WHY CAN'T YOU JUST LISTEN FOR ONCE?"

They were also a nuissance.

"THAT'S IT. I'M DONE. GO!"

And we go: we get out of the student council, and Sotoka-chan closes it's door.

"FUCKING BITCH!" Ino yells. "SHE JUST YELLED AT US! WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER?! WHO IS SHE TO CHASTIZE US?!

"Stop yelling, Ino-san," Sotoka-chan interrupts her; "she's gonna hear you."

"Let's go then," says Ino.

I take Sotoka-chan's hand (and it's as soft and warm as always), and I take her to the library. I always go there; there's a lot of manga, even though I've read them all, but I often re-read them again.

And there's also study rooms where I can watch as much anime as I want, using my laptop of course. I used to use library's own computers, but I always got kicked out by the librarians and a couple other nuisances, even if I always used my headphones.

And I didn't smuggled snacks that often.

Oh, yeah, I do homework there too.

Anyway, we rented a study room and locked ourselves there.

"Now what?" I ask.

"I dunno. That fucking bitch won't let us do anything," complains Ino.

And I totally agree with her.

"What if the center around the no-club students?" asks Sotoka-chan. "That way at least we don't have to bother anyone else."

Yes! That's brilliant! Didn't expect less from you, Sotoka-chan!

"Maybe we can even ask Fujimoto-san for those no-club students," Sotoka-chan continued.

And idea so brilliant really deserves a hug. And I give it to her. She yells, though (but she always does).

She's so warm and soft.

"You're so smart, Sotoka-chan! ¡I love you, I love you, I love you!"

"I don't think that Fujimoto bitch will tell us anything," says Ino.

Why you always have to ruin everything, Ino?"

Man, you're really such a nuisance.

But I can't afford to kick you out of the club.

Well, whatever, we go back to the student council.

We get to president Fujimoto's desk.

"Now what?" she asks us.

"President Fujimoto-san," I say, "give us a list of everyone who's not in any club."

President Fujimoto looks at me surprised.

"Ummm... I can't do that."

"Told you," says Ino.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

"Onegaishimasu, president Fujimoto-sama-chan!" I yell and grab her by the shoulders and shake her up. "We only need two more mem—

"I told you not to yell anymore!" yells president Fujimoto. "And get off me!"

Oh, yeah, I threw myself over her desk and took her by the shoulders and plead and shook her off.

Sotoka-chan takes me by the waist and helps me get off president Fujimoto's desk.

"Sorry, sorry," says Sotoka-chan while bowing repeatedly to president Fujimoto.

"Gomen'nasai," I say and I bow too.

And we both arranged everything president Fujimoto has in her desk.

"Yeah, well, that's private info, and besides, I don't have it right now," says president Fujimoto.

"And, how can we know who's not in any club?" I ask.

President Fujimoto just shrugs.

"Thanks anyway," says Sotoka-chan.

And we leave.

"Fucking bit— but Ino can't finish her insult because Sotoka-chan covers Ino's mouth with her hand.

"We'd better leave," she says.

And I take Sotoka-chan's hand (yep, it's still as soft and warm as always), and we go back to our study room. I sit by Sotoka-chan's side.

"Now what?" asks Ino before I do.

"Well," says Sotoka-chan, "if no-club students go back home after class, why don't we wait for them at the school's entrance after class and talk to them?"

Yes! What a genious, Sotoka-chan!

I turn towards her to hug her, but Sotoka-chan tells me "no" with her extended hand.

Well, I'll save her that hug for later.

"And we give them flyers?" I ask.

"Didn't you learned anything?" asks Ino meanly.

"What? We're gonna be outside school. They can't yell at us for that," I tell her rightly.

"Let's not risk it," says Sotoka-chan, "at the end of the day, we only have to talk to them."

"Or we can text them," I smartly suggest.

"Izumi, we don't even know who they are," man, Ino is such a buzzkill, "or do you have their numbers?"

"I don't even have a phone," I admit.

"Why?"

"I sold it."

"Of course you did."

"So, then, do we wait for them after class?" asks Sotoka-chan.

"What other choice do we have?" answers (and asks) Ino.

"Ok, then, so tomorrow after class we stay at the school's entrance. Alright, so can we now watch some anime or what?" I take my laptop from my backpack and I open it. It's already on and with some open streaming apps.

"What?! No! Were did you got that laptop anyway?! Why I'd want to watch anime?!" asks (and yells) Ino.

"Well: 1) I bought it, and 2) it's fun: we'd watch anime, Sotoka-chan'd be by my side, I'd talk with her (and with you, if you want) about it, and we'd do this every day."

"So, all this ANIME LIFE thing it's just an excuse to watch anime?!" asks (and yells) Ino.

"Partially, yes."

"I'm leaving now," Ino get up and hangs her backpack on her shoulder.

"Leave, then. I'm staying here with Sotoka-chan."

"As if I care," Ino leaves the study room.

And me and Sotoka-chan are now alone.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

ME AND SOTOKA-CHAN ARE NOW ALONE! WHAT SHOULD I DO WHAT SHOULD I DO WHAT SHOULD I—Calm down, Izumi; a chance like this doesn't come up every day, and also…

.

.

.

maybe if I play my cards right…

.

.

.

Yes.

Don't ruin it, Izumi.

"Sotoka-chan!"

Sotoka-chan turns towards me very scared.

"What? What happened?"

You've already ruined it, Izumi.

Come on, play it cool.

.

.

.

Play it cool.

"Ummmm… wanna watch some anime or something?"

"Well, I mean… if you want to…"

I hug Sotoka-chan as hard as I can, and she yells (she always does).

"WE'RE GONNA HAVE SO MUCH FUN, SOTOKA-CHAN. ANIME'S THE BEST ON THIS GODDAMNED UNIVERSE, AND I CAN ALSO BRING SOME MANGA, AND WE CAN READ IT TOGETHER AND TALK ABOUT IT ALL NIGHT LONG AND—

"Ejem!" I let Sotoka-chan go, and we turn towards the door, and we found it open and surrounded by a lot of meddlers, and in the middle of them was Kazumi Nishimiya. She's really a nuisance. Even though she's not the librarian or anything, she might work here because she's always scolding me.

"Hey, can you two be quiet, please?" we could barely hear her voice.

"Leave us alone, Mausumiya," I call her Mausumiya because she really looks like a mouse: she's tiny and super thin, and she talks so low but high pitched.

"It's Nishimiya, and this is a library, and libraries should be silent.

"We're in a study room, get off our backs. And you," I tell the meddlers, "don't you wanna join ANIME LIFE? We're two members short. Do you want a flyer?"

No one answers me, but everyone leave.

"Natsumura-san, please respect our library."

"What? Speak up."

"I said please respect our library!" she's yelling, but we can barely hear her.

"Yeah, right, just leave."

She closes the door and leaves.

It's always the same story with her.

.

.

.

.

.

Oh, yeah, me and Sotoka-chan are alone.

And before someone interrupts us again…

"Hey, Sotoka-chan."

"What's up?"

"I was wondering if we could just get together here every day and watch anime until eight, and then maybe we can go some other place."

"Hummmm… ok… I'll tell Ino tomorrow."

"Yeah, eh, about her, maybe we don't need to tell her; I don't think she likes me at all."

"But she's part of our club, and she wants to be with us. Besides, she's a nice girl."

"What? Where do you get that? She's horrible: she's always mocking me, calling me otaku, and she never helps us. You know how many flyers she put up yesterday?

"You put up more flyers?!"

"Uhm.... no, but that's not the point: she's so mean, and she always ruins everything. I don't know why she—

"She may be a little grumpy and a downer, but at least she's not annoying me at every single time."

Sotoka-chan gets up and leaves the study room.

And slams the door.

"So tomorrow at the school's entrance, right?"

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

You really ruined it, Izumi.
