Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Into the unknown

Gaylin panicked when he saw the white horse gone. He knew she had gone to spy on these men. It was too dangerous and his heart started hammering in his chest. What if they found her? They had mounted the horses and decided to meet the mob, he left Isidora to search for their wayward daughter. They had to make these men leave, now.

They rode hard and found the men a few miles up the road. They weren't moving anymore, the entire group surrounded a figure tied up on the group. Just as they started to dismount a white horse came charging out of the woods. It scattered the men and stood over the figure on the ground. "What the hell is this? Shoot it!" Pardon leveled his gun at the horse but Gaylin was faster. "Stop!" He yelled after firing a shot into the air. "That's my horse! And it looks like my daughter too!" He was furious.

A gunshot stirred Lynora from her darkness. She sat up, seeing her father with a gun in the air and the white horse standing over her. More confusion. Shaking her head she realized her hands were bound. This wouldn't do. Pulling hard at the ropes she snapped them easily. Her head hurt, the lump on the back was bleeding. The men were all arguing viciously about a beast. What beast? She nuzzled horse and for whatever reason mounted her bareback.

Gaylin saw that she was ok and on the horse even as he was yelling to these men that that was a woman! His daughter! They insisted she was a beast from the south.... and needed to be put down. They were outnumbered.

"You're losing your mind Parson she's clearly a girl! This is Gaylins child how can you be acting so insane?! " Dash, a farm hand was yelling also. She trotted the horse to her fathers side and placed a hand on his arm. "Father what's wrong? I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare them I just wanted to see who it was!" She pleaded but he silenced her. "Lynora go home. Ride hard to the house and tell your mother" he choked a little, tears in his eyes. "Tell your mother I said it's time. And that I'll hold them off. I love you my beautiful girl, please ride NOW." He didn't have to say more her horse perked, spun and ran at breakneck speed towards the house. She looked back to her father one last time.

When she reached the house and relayed the news to her mother she saw something she never had. Fear. It crowded her mother's features immediately. "Lynora we need to move quickly. In the barn there is a bag inside of the feed bin, grab that and bring it here. Saddle your horse and get the white one ready to pack behind you." She was speaking fast, her voice trembled. "You need to make sure everything is ready quickly, go" always the diligent child she immediately went to work packing the white horse with bags, her horse with tack. Her mind was racing. What the hell was happening to her family?!

Isidora sobbed hard once the girl went outside. Someone had found out. Packing medical supplies, food and some clothing she decided to place her ring inside of the package. There was a thick packet of paper she placed deep inside the bag. Sobbing one more time she had to clean her face before going outside. It was time to do the hardest part and Gaylin had left her alone to do it.

As she approached the house with her two horses ready to go her hands started to shake. Was her mother leaving them? She stiffened when she say her mother with two bags packed and waiting. "Mother? You're not leaving us? Please ?" Her large, luminous eyes locked with Isidoras and she knew. "No darling. I am not who has to leave. My sweet girl, it is time I tell you a story." Her eyes were watery and sad.

18 years prior-

Gaylins patrol was set to match the border because a faction of beasts were seen to be living a few miles away on the southern side. His commander was a bold one and said they were going to march a few miles in and see if they could root them out. They found nothing, but were set to patrol the area two miles Into the southern territory. So one night on one of these patrols Gaylin saw a flash in the woods, something was moving. As he got up he saw a woman with silver hair, she was beautiful but looked very sick. Her face had the most beautiful tattooed patterns, all around the forehead and eyes. Her lips were cracked and covered in blood. Her huge blue eyes met with Gaylins and he knew... this was a beast. But she was so beautiful. She made some hand motions to him. He didn't understand and wanted to speak. She shook her head no and held up her hand to stop. She showed him a bundle, placed it on the ground and slipped into the forest as quickly as she came.

********

You were in the bundle Lynora... her mother's words echoed through her mind all night. She was adopted? Abandoned ? And now shunned ? Her mother had sent her away. Told her to ride hard for the border and to cross at a place called Thistle wood bridge. No guards at that posting. She said to stick to the woods where I could and cross fields at night? It was confusing and hurtful. And her head hurt pretty bad. She decided to make a camp in the woods that night. Taking Hero, her black mare and her new white mare Ena she made her way to a small lake area.

****

Why would my family leave me? And why wouldn't my adopted family tell me? Gods her head hurt so bad it made her forehead pound as well. Taking a swim might help. Taking the damn head wrap off would for sure make it better. Slipping off her clothes she sunk into the water, blissfully cold and clear. Her mind relaxed and wandered as her hair floated out around her. Wait? Wasn't today her birthday ?!
