Chapter 1: Prologue
The cake taste sweet and savory but it feels hard to swallow. There's a lump in my throat as I urge my tears not to fall and smudge my lightly make-upped face.
'I will not cry today. I. Will. Not. Cry. Today.' I kept the mantra in my head. I was hoping I could convince myself. If only I could convince myself.
I look outside the glass window of the coffeeshop and I see the bustling life of the city. People are walking from every direction, traffic is pretty heavy. And life goes on. I wish the same is for me.
Not really. My heart is gone somewhere. I don't think I have the courage nor the strength to come take it back. It already belongs there. Somewhere. With him. If only he could offer me his. Too bad, some love do get unrequited at times. In my case, at my expense.
My eyes get blurry as tears roll down my face. The cake taste salty now. I put down my fork. I see the smoke and I hear the busy city street but my mind is looking for the gustling wind and humming birds and green meadows and fields. I wish to be with him. But I can't. It can never happen.
If only...
