Chapter 4: I just met the Archmage...Unknowingly...

It's been over a few 3 years and I've been watching over Sebastian carefully and attentively, he's been calm recently and I don't think he'll worsen if I leave. This is just hopeful thinking, Now I'm probably past the age of marriage, I'm most likely 20 by now. I sigh and watch over the little prince's face as he calmly slept. I really will miss him...

"Good night Sebastian..." I whispered in his ear and the moon shone, lighting up his bedroom, tidy and clean, his hair was clumpy.

The lines of care and toil had smoothed and virtually disappeared, the anxiety on his face now but a memory. Eyelids closed against the dim light of the night and his breathing deep and relaxed, all the muscles in his face and body were totally at peace, like a baby in its' first throes of slumber. Not a twitch, not a spasm, barely any movement of his chest rising and falling with each intake of air such was the depth of his sleep.

[Today is the day I run away.] I thought sadly and my eyelids half-closed, half-open smiled at him yet so tenderly waiting for his happiness one day, that he marry Elisa. I wish that one day it will come when I can see the smile on his face. I closed my eyes for a few seconds letting it all in, the moonlight shining on the carpet on the floor, the moon smiling on my face, ah so warm and tender I just had to take it in.

"I hope one day you become happy..." I mumbled under my breath with every word in my mouth hesitating to come out. I bit my lips for a moment and hesitated but I walked over my silver hair in a cascade letting it fall over my shoulders and falling on his sweet delicate face.

I kissed his forehead and just stared at his calm and peaceful face, he slept as if not one person could come to harm him anymore. He no longer had nightmares, he held my hand for a while and now I think he's okay. He can breathe in this place now. I believe in him, I placed the letter in his wooden nightstand inside the book I always read him, 'The Lady and her Prince,' it was a story that fascinated him even though he pretended he wasn't.

I chuckled and stood at the left side of his bed and said my last goodbye, I walked over with my maid outfit and paraded towards the door and turned around once more to see his face and closed the door walking away from his majesty Sebastian.

I grab my cape and hood and start to walk away forgetting to take that little boy along with me because after this, his every breath and action would affect me. I blinked slowly and faltered in the moonlight, I lack energy and sleep but this is all I can do for now. I tiptoed around the palace and found the secret passageway the novel talked about when Sebastian escaped with Elisa at the banquet.

I opened the brick wall and it took me to the other side, I run quickly towards the gate and runoff, without lifting suspicions, "Where are you off to so late?" A voice said I was startled by the presence of another, and I turned around slowly only to see Blue hair, black highlights, and orange eyes, the figure had fair skin like everyone else in this kingdom and had his hair combed neatly.

"Are you planning to escape this late at night? A maid at the Sun Palace?" He asked, he had an amusing expression, like someone from the novel but I can't seem to remember. "W-Well...I just came from the Moon Palace, I was fired today so I can't really stay overnight or I'll be punished." I replied nervously, eyes closed, and a nervous smile. He surprisingly nodded and crossed his arms over his chest, he was around 6 feet tall and around my age. He wore a black turtleneck and beige trousers only reaching his ankles and a blue crystal earring on his right ear.

"Your eyes..!" He exclaimed and I looked at him confused, [No one is supposed to have red ruby eyes at this age. Those of the Roxanne Kingdom, they were all considered mages before all their kind went mysteriously extinct! How did no one say anything?] The man thought to himself, [Hm...I'll take her in as my apprentice then. I could use some help.] He had such a natural Mischievous face, like he was up to something.

"Young Lady, What's your name?"

"Charlotte."

"Hm, How about your surname?"

"I don't have one." I replied and smiled childishly and as he looked into space, pondering about, I started to tiptoe quickly to escape, "Aha!"

"eek!" I yelled surprised.

"I'll make you my apprentice!" He said excitedly, He smiled cheerfully and talked to himself saying this and that, as he did I started to run as fast as I could and reached the town that was nearby just down the slope of the castle.

I huffed and puffed letting myself regain my breath, [What a weirdo-] I spotted an inn nearby and paid the man with 1/6 of my salary. "Thank You, young lady." The man smiled and I bowed my head a little and walked upstairs to my room, He looked a bit suspicious but I can't judge someone for their appearances.

Ah-So this is my room. I see it's really...something.

I came in and the room was very crowded, with a simple bed and white sheets, made of cotton-like materials, then a nightstand on the side of the bed. I sighed in relief, placing my bottom on the bed, trying to feel and breathe the air, but it smelled strange. I had this strange and awry feeling. [Hm I wonder, Is there really something going on with the owner and his inn?] I smiled slyly, [Then there will be a lot of excitement involved.]
