Chapter 1: Chapter one: Rogue

I ran down the dark and damp streets of the city. Holding my duffle bag. Smokey ran by my side. "Get back here Rogue! That was supposed to be my steal!" A man shouted from behind me. I slipped my hand into my coat and spun my torso around while running.

"Sorry, but this is my steal" I said to him before shooting him in the shoulder. My voice was altered and deep, as I was wearing a special high tech mask. I shoved my gun back in my coat and continued down the wet pavement.

We returned to our shabby old place. A beautiful abandoned mansion. Not perfect for being on the down low but it had worked for me, my entire life. It was hidden in what is left of the forest. I threw my backpack onto the fancy couch and took off my giant mask. It was made to both hide your identity and to protect you from anything in the air that isn't good for you. In my case I used it against tear gas, or whatever else the police like to throw at me. The mask also has night vision. Which comes in handy. I breathed a heavy sigh as I placed my mask on the table beside the couch. "Come on Smokey let's go to bed. This was another job well done" I said as I climbed the staircase to my room. Smokey barked and followed me.

I entered my room and sat on my large bed. I kicked my black boots off my feet and slipped my knitted coat off my body. Then I got under the covers and fell asleep. Smokey climbed onto my bed and joined me.

The next morning I woke up and took a shower. I got dressed in some regular attire and grabbed a purse. I snuck the weapon I had stolen last night into my purse so I could sell it. I put a leash on Smokey just like we did when we went into the city. "Let's go, we need to sell to our client... and get groceries" I said before leaving. We walked into the city, blending in the crowd of regular people. As we were walking though I felt as though we were being followed. So I tried rounding a corner into an alleyway. I planned to sneak into a building. The one where I was supposed to meet my client. But I had walked into the wrong one. I was trapped in an alley with a brick wall and a dumpster. I debated on jumping over the wall. But whoever was following me would probably be suspicious of me and report me to the cops.

"You look like a little rich girl, give us your money! Now!" They shouted, I heard multiple guns cock and I turned to see who was trying to rob me. Three men who looked to be on the poor side of the city.

"Listen men, I do what I do to help people like you. So I will hand over the most money I can... but don't push it..." I said slowly as I reached into my purse to grab my wallet. I pulled three thousand dollars. One thousand for each. They collected it but wanted more.

"Give us more... now!" They shouted. I felt my survival instincts start to rise but tried hard to hold them down, 'not now, not in the broad daylight.' "We said now!" They shouted before shooting at my face. But I dodged the bullet by falling to the ground. Doing my best to look like I have never been in a gunfight before. Smokey was growling and barking in front of me. Trying to protect me. I shouted out for help.

"Hey! Get away from her!" A man shouted from behind them. I watched as the men turned to see who it was. It was a man who looked as rich as I dressed. But he didn't look like a business man like most in the city. He dressed mostly casual.

"Who are you?! This is none of your concern!" One man shouted. But the man slowly brought a phone up to the other's sight. He had dialed 911. But it wasn't in the call yet. He was threatening them.

"It's just one press of a button. Even if you shoot me I will have called 911. They can track the call and stop you... now why don't you take the money she gave you and leave..." the man said. The men looked frightened. But left. I watched them run off with shock. Suddenly the man came over and offered his hand to help me up. I took it and jumped to my feet.

"Thanks for the help" I said.

He smiled, "no problem, many do this these days. I understand our city is full of poverty but it still bugs me that they feel they must hurt people to get what they need. I am Hunter by the way."

"Serena. And I agree with you... but I understand how they feel. They feel that there is no escape from their poverty. And so in fear they decide to hurt people to get money. Most of their motivation is to take care of their family. And even if it is not okay to hurt people... I have respect for them... for doing whatever it takes to take care of their family" I replied as I shook Hunter's hand. He smiled again.

"Interesting concept... would you like to take a walk through the park?" He asked. I looked hesitant.

"I actually need to run a couple errands... but how about I meet you there in a couple hours?" I asked.

"Sounds like a plan, see you soon" he said as he walked off. I continued to walk to where my client was. I walked into the right alley way and knocked on one of the doors. The door opened slightly, a man peaking out.

"Come in..." he said as he let me inside. I walked up the staircase. The man following behind me with a gun. We entered a room where it looked shabby and abandoned. My client stood with his hands behind his back, looking out the dirty and broken window. He was holding a gun in his hands.

"So you are the mysterious Rogue..." he said as he turned to face me. He had dark skin but his blue eyes were icy and bright in my direction. I had no expression on my face.

"I have the merchandise in here" I said as I pulled the small hand gun out of my purse. He smirked at it.

"So small, but so deadly." He said as he pulled it from my delicate hand. He nodded at one of his men to give me the money. He opened the suitcase to show there was money inside before handing it to me. I closed it and held it at my side. "You sure it works?" He asked. I nodded.

"Yes sir, if you don't believe me test it on that box right there" I said as I nodded to a big box in the corner. He smirked as he shot the box. It shattered. He laughed devilishly.

"Perfect, please escort this young lady out the building. Great work Rogue." I nodded and left.

After going and dropping off most of the money into the orphanage in the poor side of the city I went grocery shopping. Then I made my way to the park with my bags of groceries. I walked over to the large fountain. I found Hunter standing there. Tossing a coin inside. "Hello Hunter" I said. He turned and smiled at me.

"Ah if it isn't the amazing Serena!" He said. I smiled back.

"So, what do you do for a living mister mystery?" I asked.

"Ah, that will have to stay a mystery..." he replied. I lifted a brow suspiciously. "Anyway, I want to hear about you, where do you get these ideas you have?" He asked.

"Well I wasn't always rich" I replied.

"How so?" He asked.

"Well when I was little I was orphaned. I have no idea where my parents went. Only that we weren't in a good financial situation. Maybe they just decided they couldn't care for me anymore, I don't know. I've been caring for myself since" I replied. Hunter looked at me with a slight bit of concern.

After some time of us walking and talking he offered me a ride home. But I refused. "I would prefer to get my steps in" I said. He chuckled and left. Smokey and I rushed home. I put away my groceries and began preparing for the new steal of the day. This was going to be my hardest one yet. So I prepared myself well. I braided my hair back and dressed myself the same way I always did. Long sleeve black shirt with a thumb hole. Black pants, with long black boots. A knitted coat that was grey and covered my neck to keep me warm. And my mask to help me and to hide my identity. I grabbed my duffle bag and placed a harness on Smokey. "Let's go" I said before we set off in the darkness to steal a high tech weapon. Most of the information on the weapon is unknown, other than that it is powerful and extremely pricy.

I perched on top of a small building and pulled my sniper out and pointed at the two guards in the front. Two silent shots and they were down. Next I shot the guards I could see inside the wall. That would cause a distraction. I placed my sniper back in the duffle bag and slid down the ladder. I signaled to Smokey to follow me as we made our way to the wall. I walked over to a guard I killed and grabbed a key card off him. I then snuck to the side wall and began climbing. After making my way over the wall and helping Smokey inside we continued to the doors to the building. But stopped in some bushes. "There's a sniper out there! Gather the men let's go!" One guard shouted. Several guards ran out of the building grounds to find the sniper. I signaled to Smokey that the coast was clear.

We snuck inside and avoided left over guards. Finally we made it to the vault where the weapon was being kept. I was pulling the key card out of my pocket when I suddenly heard the beeping sound of someone's communicator. "Everything is clear over here sir... yeah I am making my way to the vault to check there" he said into the communicator.

Suddenly he rounded the corner. But I wasn't there. I was hiding in a crevice with Smokey, my hand on his chest to keep him still. Since all the lights were off it would be fine. The guard went to click his communicator. "All clear" he said as he began walking away. I peaked around the corner. But the guard stopped walking away. He was looking at a device on his wrist. It had a warning on it. Probably about the sniper. He suddenly turned back around to the vault. I swung myself back into the crevice. But I think he saw the lights on my mask because he started making his way toward me. I began pulling my hand gun from my coat slowly. When the guard got close enough I swung myself out of the crevice and shot at the guard. But he dodged. He reached to his communicator but I shot again at his hand. He decided to focus on attacking me. Smokey growled and ran toward the guard to attack. He bit his arm and yanked him away from his communicator. I then shot him in the direction of his heart. He was obviously wearing protection so it only made him pass out. I walked over and grabbed his communicator. I then threw it on the ground and stomped on it. It cracked and zapped. The light on it turning off. I then placed the key card to the door and walked inside the vault. I signaled for Smokey to stay and guard. I looked around the vault. When I turned a corner I saw the gun inside of a display case. I made my way toward it and examined it. It required a key card to get into it so I placed the card against it. The scanner beeped and turned red.

"This key card does not have access to this device, a warning has been sent to the manager" the device warned me.

"Crap..." I muttered under my breath as I frantically went through my duffle bag for a hacking device. I grabbed it and cracked into the display case. After it opened I grabbed the gun and placed it into the duffle bag. Suddenly an alarm went off. I then began running out of the vault. I signaled for Smokey to follow me. I heard guards running in the direction of the vault but I continued down the hall anyway.

"Hey! Get back here!" A guard shouted behind me. Smokey and I bolted to a stair case and ran down. I heard guards running up the staircase so I reached my hand gun over the side of the staircase and shot at any guards I saw.

"Shoot now!" A guard shouted. Guns started blazing in my direction. But I had already made it into a door. Smokey and I ran down the hall full of labs. I found a window that was open. It had an escape ladder so I pulled out a rope from my bag and strapped Smokey to my back. I climbed out the window just as I heard guards making their way down the hall of labs. I began climbing down quickly. But it was too slow because I noticed a head peak out the window I just climbed out of and suddenly bullets were flying at us. I dodged them and began sliding down the ladder. I reached the bottom and untied the rope. I set Smokey down and pushed him over the wall. I signaled for him to go and I would meet him back at the mansion. I then bolted toward a motorcycle I saw. I pushed my hacking device onto the key hole, the device shifted and connected to it. It clicked and the motorcycle started up.

Guards made their way toward me as I began driving. The guards were closing the gate once more but the motorcycle was too fast. I slid through just in time. As I drove I heard police sirens behind me. I looked down to see the fancy control system. My hacking device beeped and gave a warning that the motorcycle was being tracked. "Crap!" I said as I stopped the motorcycle with a screech of the tires. I had to abandon my escape vehicle.

I made my way into an alley way. Walking briskly through it to escape the tracked vehicle. As I was walking down the sidewalk I noticed a man in the middle of the street. He was eyeing me as I walked. I held my gun in my hand ready to shoot anyone who got in my way. When I got close enough the man grabbed me. I moved my hand to shoot the man but he knocked my gun out of my hand. I growled as he pulled me toward another alley way. "Finally I can turn you into the government for the reward I deserve! I told you that you would regret stealing from me!" He shouted in my ear.

"You stole it from me idiot! I was just stealing it back!" I shouted back. He began moving to toss me in the trunk of his black limo. I suddenly head butted his chin and twisted his wrist but he had grabbed the weapon I had just stolen from my bag as I swung around to punch him. Before I could punch him he cocked the gun and pointed it at me.

"Fine! If I can't bring you in alive I will bring you in dead!" He shouted. Suddenly he shot the weapon. I did my best to dodge but the bullet hit my arm I screamed in agony as I fell to the ground. I held my hand against my arm as I groaned and cried. "I told y- urgh" the man began before being muffled. I turned my head to the man to see someone holding a cloth to the mans mouth. Suddenly the man passed out and the person carried him into the limo.

"S-stay away from me!" I groaned and cried. The person made their way over to me. They were wearing a mask similar to mine but more high tech. He took it off. In the light of the night I could see a familiar face. "H-Hunter?!" I asked before groaning again.

"Careful Serena you are hurt!" He said as he helped me up. He helped me into the limo and got into the driver's seat.

"How'd you know who I was? And how did you find me?" I asked. He pulled my mask off so I could breath better.

"We can talk about that later, first I need to take you home and tend to your wound!" Hunter said as he started the engine and began driving down the road.

"Where's home?" I asked. He didn't respond only drove. When we stopped we were at my house. He helped me out and into the house. I guided him to where the first aid was. He brought it to me and quickly began doing surgery on me. He pulled out the bullet and stitched me up. I screamed in agony as he did so. When he finished I was mostly calm.

"That's the most I can do right now. I can't stay so I will check on you tomorrow morning" he said as he put the stuff away. But I was too tired to really pay attention to what he just said, so I just nodded and fell asleep.

The next morning I sat up on my couch. Smokey was laying on my lap. Protecting me. I groaned as I pushed Smokey. He woke up and licked my face. I chuckled a bit, "get off Smokey!" I said as I playfully pushed him. He finally jumped off my lap and I pushed myself to my feet. I was still in my bloody pants and boots. Hunter had stripped my long sleeve shirt and coat off my body to tend to my wound. So I was still in my bloody tank top too. I made my way to the bathroom to clean myself up. As I washed my face and body I looked in the mirror. Suddenly I noticed that my eyes had changed drastically in color. Instead of the regular fiery brown eyes I had a pair of bright magnificent blue eyes. I fell backward and broke things as I did so. I was freaking out when I suddenly heard a voice on some sort of speaker outside my house.

"Step out of the building and put your hands in the air!" The police had found me. Did Hunter turn me in?! Did he betray me?! I began freaking out even more. I grabbed my mask and a gun and stepped outside. I was still a little weak to fight but I had to. I signaled for Smokey to stay inside. "That's right Rogue, it's time to serve your time in jail!" They shouted again. I put my hands in the air in defeat as I noticed how many police officers there were. But since I had forgotten to drop my gun, one of the younger looking officers shot in my direction.

"No!" I shouted my plea as I dropped my gun. But it was too late. The bullet was flying towards me. Suddenly my eyes began to glow and I moved to block my body in total fear. My fear inside me told me this was it. Nothing could save me. When suddenly the officers all gasped. I finally look out from my arms that were holding my head to see that bullet had fallen to the ground, melted. I noticed that it looked as if I was looking through a filter or sunglasses. But it was a bit blurry. I had created a shield. Suddenly the shield disappeared and the officers aimed at me once more. Wanting to escape I suddenly found myself floating. I flew up into the air when the officers began shooting. I continued soaring through the air but I was horrified with what was happening. How was I doing this. I lost control of my powers and began falling toward the farms in the outskirts of the city. I screamed as I hit the corn field in full force. The plants and dirt flying up into the air as I slid through the field in my crash. I passed out soon after. But my conscience lasted long enough for me to see a ship start to land next to me.
