Chapter 4: 064. Medium

After reading the three pages of the diary, the sky was already dark, and the vision of the church triggered by the diary appeared in front of his eyes....

All those people, the headless corpses, the skeletons, all kneeling deep on the ground in worship over the church.

Was it in this very church that Rebdi Piani was reunited with his family, his loved ones and his friends?

"May you all rest in peace." Gu Jun whispers to himself, sorting through this newly acquired information as he feels sorry for them, "This is another civilization, perhaps an ancient civilization on Earth, or perhaps one from another planet, another dimension."

Previously Gu Jun was leaning towards the latter, but now he thinks the former is also possible.

This civilization also has a twelve-month period in a year, and each month seems to last about thirty days. This is inevitable due to the same climate change of the planets.

Moreover, the human body structure and functions of the foreigners beings should be highly identical to those of Homo sapiens, if not the same? Otherwise, their drug could not have worked on him, but also on other human tumors, as has been demonstrated in nude mice in experiments on foreign medicines.

The system's quest reward stated "human brain stem tumor targeting drug", and the host's information classified him as "human-sapiens".

Thinking of these two points, Gu Jun now has some new ideas: "This medicine is effective against all 'human' creatures, regardless of whether or not the foreigners are Homo sapiens, as they are considered human. By the way...there's also the 'Kalop Academy'."

According to the diary, the Kalop Academy is the most noble medical school in that country.

From time to time, the rewards for difficult quests would be medical tools such as "Kalop brand scalpels" or "Kalop brand dissecting scissors", the two types were the same thing, right, those scalpels and dissecting scissors were also products of that civilization.

But there was one situation that Gu Jun was very puzzled about.

First of all, from the way Piani and Leda keep in touch with each other through "letters", it can be assumed that this civilization did not have telephones, mobile phones, the Internet and these things, and did not reach the information technology revolution. Otherwise, their relationship would have been so strong that they wouldn't have to talk on the phone every day, but they would have to send messages too, unless "correspondence" is the name of an app.

This civilization hasn't reached the electricity revolution yet, but it has some "cold machines".

Piani writes that Leda was not from a noble family, the daughter of a blacksmith, but she seems to have a strong sense of feudalism.

From the fact that Piani keeps mentioning the "goddess of life", it seems to be the goddess worshiped by the empire. He also talked about "the messenger of the goddess" and "the meaning of life", religion was very important in this civilization.

That's what made Gu Jun wonder, using the development of Homo sapiens as a reference, it was impossible for such a civilization to have high medical technology, but....

They've got a medicine that targets Medulloblastoma! But here for Homo sapiens can only wait for their death.

"This civilization is behind us in some aspects... but in other areas, such as medicine, it may be much more advanced than we are."

Gu Jun pondered as he repeatedly flipped through the three pages of the diary.

Was it just because of the religious beliefs that this civilization pointed out a different technological tree?

They are the ones who have the greatest respect for medicine, who are constantly researching it, who are constantly studying the technology of the place. Judging from the anatomical drawings and diaries that contain information about viruses and parasites, they have mastered the modern medicine of Homo sapiens, and even cancer is no longer a problem.

"I wonder to what extent and in what way the medical science on the foreigners had developed?"

As a medical slave, Gu Jun knows very well that modern medicine can't be developed without those high-precision instruments; without a microscope, how can one observe bacteria? The development and manufacture of these instruments is supported by science and technology. What is "technology" in the foreign language civilization?

"Wait..." he suddenly remembered that comparisons were meant to be mutual.

He was just thinking about what the different civilizations didn't have, but he didn't think about what the Homo sapiens civilization didn't have in return?

The reason for the development of Homo sapiens civilization is that "technology is the first productive force", not because Homo sapiens had to develop this way from the beginning, but because steam, electricity, information and other technologies won out.

Why didn't these technologies win out in the foreign civilization? And what's the winner? Can it still be magic?

Magic? Gu Jun's heart was stunned, then jumped up....

After witnessing such power of the system, he did not doubt that other strange powers existed in this world.

There is truth behind all the strange things, but if humans cannot even figure out what the double-slit experiment is all about, how can we talk about the nature of the universe?

"Could this be what the Afterlife Club is researching and seeking?"

When Gu Jun thought of this, he paced the balcony, feeling the presence of something indescribable in the darkness of the night, something that has existed since time immemorial.

Is the Afterlife Club seeking to acquire knowledge and technology that Homo sapiens civilization did not have?

Isn't a medicine that cures cancer or a method that prolongs life something that can drive people crazy?

"Mom's fanaticism, could it be the medical skills of the foreigners?" Gu Jun mused, his mother's fervent gaze at the foreign language still stinging him....

But now that he thought about it this way, he felt much more comfortable, and if it was related to deciphering those superior techniques, he would be fanatical about it too.

"Maybe the Afterlife Club was in possession of some foreign language books, but they didn't understand anything, and there was no way to decipher them. And then... after some research in the Afterlife Club, which my parents had been involved in, I was able to understand foreign languages... I was able to write the names of things on the drawings and decipher them.... "

Gu Jun organizes and speculates on these clues, "I seem to be a sort of medium between two civilizations, responsible for bringing in the foreign language civilization..."

The medium? A tool for storing and disseminating information.

"Medium?" Gu Jun took a long, deep breath and thought through these connections, but his mind was even more confused.

Early childhood was the foreign language, now this system, isn't this system a medium with even more amazing power?

Diagrams and diaries are information, but medicine and equipment are real things.

"The Hands Of Dexterity..." Gu Jun was suddenly even more shocked, could these "abilities" be the "magic" of the foreign language civilization?"

Or is it the "medical technology" that the kalop medical students learn?

Just because there are these magic-like technologies that make up for what they lack in technology, these technologies and abilities are even better used in the medical field than those of Homo sapiens....

"Am I some sort of medium, or am I some kind of foreigner coming from some other world?" Gu Jun shook his head mockingly, "I'm probably more like Piani than Langton, except for the fancy bit."

He didn't ponder the idea in detail, it was fine to think about it a bit. Because even if he had, he couldn't think about it exactly, this kind of mysticism was completely out of his realm of knowledge.

Better to think about the medium, what had the Afterlife Club done to make him what he was?

And does the Afterlife know that it worked? Why let him go free all these years instead of locking him up in a dark room, even giving him $5 million to squander?

How did the afterlife come into contact with a foreign language civilization? What else do they already have?

How much does the Agency know about all this?

And those monsters...what was it? What forces brought them to Earth?

Do they have anything to do with "coughing-blood disease"? Will coughing-blood disease someday... also descend upon and ravage Homo sapiens civilization?

In contrast, Banyan Malformation Disease, which can be treated with only timely amputation, seems to be just a pediatric fever and cold.

With such an advanced medical civilization being destroyed by coughing-blood disease, would it be the end of days if coughing blood disease came to this world?

The cold night breeze was blowing through, and Gu Jun's heart was chilling, with too many new doubts swirling.

"Must hurry and find a way to trigger the illusion of that black and white photo, I need more information to unravel these mysteries.
