Chapter 35: Chapter 35

Jackson Drake

My whole body aches when I wake up, especially my side. I writhed on the bed and tried to sit. If my memory serves me right, I was with a woman the whole night.

"Fuck!" I grunted.

I raised the hospital gown and looked at my bandaged wound. I touched it, and I hissed the moment I felt my hand on it.

"Damn it!" I groaned.

I turned to the other side of the bed and there I saw a woman wearing a familiar pastel pink dress. Her face was covered with her hair, and I brushed her hair away from her face, so I could see it.

"Shit!" I grumbled under my breath.

I was with the witch the whole night!

I closed my eyes and as I was massaging my temples, my eyes fluttered open when I heard her speak.

"You're awake. How are-"

"Why are you still here?" I asked, cutting her off.

"It's not like I can leave you here all alone." She said and then she yawned.

"You should have called your parents to pick you up." I said.

"My parents aren't here."

"What about your friends?"

"I wasn't able to call any of them. Andrei lost his phone last time, and I haven't memorized her new phone number yet." She replied and then she pursed her lips.

I stared at her for a moment as she yawned and then I looked at the floor. I caught a glimpse of her wounded bare feet.

Did she walk barefooted from where I left her until where she found me? Is she out of her mind? That is so far! How could she walk that far? That dimwit!

"Didn't you wear any footwear?" I asked, and she looked up to see me.

"I did, but I removed them when my feet hurt, and I left them somewhere." She replied as she rubbed her eyes with her hands.

"You should've just gone home." I snorted.

"How am I supposed to go home when I don't even know where I am?" She replied and then she rolled her eyes at me.

Did she just roll her eyes at me?

"Damn it! You-"

"You should call your friends or parents and inform them about your condition. We can borrow a phone from the nurses here." She said, cutting me off.

"But let me just do it for you. You shouldn't move much. The doctor advised you to rest for a day, and you'll probably get discharged tomorrow." She added.

I stood from the bed, but she immediately pushed me down.

"Where are you going? You still-"

"Restroom. I'm going to pee. Do you want to go there with me?" I asked.

Louella instantly blushed at my remark and when she saw me looking at her, she bowed her head.

"No- take care of yourself." She whispered.

"Dimwit!" I mumbled.

I went to the restroom and did what I intended to do there. I washed my hands and immediately went back to where she is. I sat on the side of the bed and looked at her for a moment.

"Here." She said as she handed me a phone.

I dialed Dave's number and waited for him to answer the call. I know, I shouldn't call him because he is on his leave, but his phone number is the only one I could remember.

"Hey-"

"Dave, I need your help. Will you please go here at…"

"Dimwit, what's this hospital called?" I asked Louella.

"Oh! Diaz-Arellano Medical Hospital" She replied.

"Did you hear that, Dave?" I asked.

"Hospital? What are you doing there? What happened-"

"Just go here, Dave!" I snapped.

I know that he is worrying about me, but I hate explaining things to someone on the phone.

"Ask my friends to come here." I said and with that I ended the call.

I looked at Louella's bare foot for a moment and clicked the text messaging app. I asked Dave to get me a pair of shoes. After that, I gave the phone back to Louella, and she took it from my hand.

"Are you hungry?" She asked.

I looked at her for a moment and then I heard a series of growls. I saw her blushed and when she saw me looking at her, she looked away. Are the growls coming from her stomach? She must be hungry.

"Fuck!" I mumbled.

"I know, you're hungry but as much as I want to buy you some food, I couldn't. I have no money to buy you some." She said.

"I don't think this hospital gives free food to its patients. If you have money with you, I can buy you some." She added.

"I left my wallet in the car." I said weakly.

"Let's just wait for Dave then. I'll just return this phone. Wait for me here and don't move much." She said, and I just nodded at her.

She looked at me for a moment and smiled before she left. Isn't she ashamed to walk barefooted?

A series of knocks pulled me out of trance.

"Come in!" I shouted.

A man in his late forties came inside and greeted me.

"How have you been?" He asked, and I looked at him confusedly.

Who is this man?

"I'm Dan, and you may call me uncle or Uncle Dan. I was the one who helped you two last night." He replied.

"Oh! I was-"

"I know, you were somehow unconscious. Have you two eaten?" He asked as he set up the overbed table and placed the plastic bag he was holding on top of it.

"I- no."

"I brought you two some food and fruits. Where's she?" He asked as he wandered his eyes around the room.

"She went-"

The door flew open, revealing Louella.

"Uncle Dan! You came!" She exclaimed as she went towards us.

"Of course, I will. Here, have some breakfast." Dan said, ushering her to take a seat.

Louella took a seat on a stool beside my bed, and Dan handed her a sandwich.

"Thanks. You should eat too, uncle." She said as she took a bite from the sandwich.

She looked at me for a moment and then she stood. She picked a sandwich from the bag and removed the wrapper and then she handed it to me.

"You should eat." She said.

I took the sandwich from her hand and separated the two slices of bread. It is a chicken salad sandwich, and it has vegetables and mayonnaise which I don't eat. I crinkle my nose upon seeing that.

I moved closer to Louella and whispered the things that I want to say to her.

"I don't like this. I don't eat vegetables and mayonnaise." I whispered, and she just rolled her eyes at me and then she turned to Dan.

"He wants you to know that he appreciates your effort, but he doesn't eat vegetables and mayonnaise." She spoke out.

"Dimwit!" I whispered at her.

How could she just disclose what I have been thinking to this man?

"Oh, my bad. Here, just eat some fruits." He said as he handed me an apple.

I took it from his hand and gave it to Louella who gave me a confused look.

"I don't eat the peel." I said, and Dan chuckled.

"Luckily, I brought a knife." He said as he handed the paring knife to Louella.

"Can't you-" Dan cut her off.

"He must be tired. Just do it for him" He said as he winked at me.

Louella rolled her eyes at me and she made a scowl. She didn't reply, and she just peeled the apple while scowling. When she finished peeling the apple, she handed me a slice of it. I took it from her hand and ate it. She did the same thing until I finished the whole apple.

"Do you want more?" She asked, and I just shook my head.

"Here, drink some water." She said.

She took one bottle of water from the paper bag and handed it to me. I took it from her hand and removed the cap and then I took a few gulps. I looked in her direction and watched her eat, making sure that she won't see me looking at her.

"As much as I want to stay with you two, I can't. I have tons of work to do at my farm. Don't worry, I'll come here later to bring you some lunch." Dan said as he stood.

"There's no need for you to do that, sir. My friends are on their way here now." I replied.

"But if you need my help, you may call me anytime. I already gave her my number." He said, and I just nodded.

"Bye, Uncle Dan. Drive safely, and thank you so much!" Louella exclaimed as she waved her hands at Dan.

"You may visit my farm if you have free time. Take care of yourselves. See you around!" Dan said and with that, he left.

"You're so rude! You didn't even thank him!" She snapped.

"You already did."

"If it weren't for him, you're probably dead by now."

"Then, you'll be happy?" I retorted.

"What- no!"

"You could've just left me." I snorted.

"I'm not heartless, and I'm not like you."

"What did you-"

"Shut up, Drake! You always get me in trouble!"

"No, I don't. Don't blame it on me!"

"This is all your fault!"

"Come on. I didn't ask you to stay with me!"

"If you hadn't left me in there, none of these things would've happened!"

"Why would I want someone like you in my car?"

"You- you're right! I should've just left you there and… and let you die!"

"And now, you want me to die huh?"

"You're so annoying! Can you be more reasonable?"

"I am reasonable. Why do I have to meet a dimwit in my life? Damn it!"

"You- jerk!"

We have been arguing the whole time we were alone and if Dave hasn't come, I bet, we are still arguing by now.

"Don't you want to apologize to each other?" Dave asked.

"No!" We both said simultaneously.

"Take her home, Dave. I can't keep seeing her. She's making my head hurt!" I stated.

"You- I don't need your concern! Eat these goddamn shoes!" She snapped and then she threw the shoes at me.

"Damn it!" I yelled.

"You… ungrateful jerk!" She snapped.

Dave held her arm and pulled her away from me.

"Let's go, miss." Dave said and with that they left me.

After a few moments, my friends came, and they laughed at me the moment they saw me.

"Damn! You look-" Ace started, but I instantly cut him off.

"Shut up!" I growled.

"What happened? Who did this to you?" Dane asked.

"Hailey." I replied briefly.

"The one you punched in the nose a few nights ago?" Ace asked, and I nodded.

"You deserve what she did to you. You ruined her nose, and I don't think the doctors will be able to fix it again." Dane stated as he threw an apple and caught it with his hand.

"I didn't know that she underwent rhinoplasty." I remarked.

"That must be expensive! Why did you even punch her?" Dane asked.

"She kept on throwing herself on me, and she was so annoying." I grumbled, and my friends laughed at my remark.

"You look terrible." Ace remarked and then he chuckled.

"Didn't you fight back? Why didn't you call us?" Dane asked.

"I did! Her goons were more than ten. How am I supposed to call you when I left my phone at home?" I snapped.

"Jackson Drake Ellizar, the king of all fistfights lost to a girl?" Ace retorted and then he tsk-tsked.

"Shut the fuck up, Ace!"

This won't just end here. I will make all of them pay for what they have done to me. I will bring that Hailey back to her place.

"The war has just started." I remarked.
