Chapter 5: What's truly sacred(pt 2)
A few minutes later...
The room was dark, but not in terms of brightness. It was the mood around the room where women and men discuss what should not be publicly known that caused the darkness. It was filled with the sins of Man there was Greed, Envy, and Pride.
A hint of Lust came from Shen Fei towards his Aunt; he sat across from Shen Xiu in a throne of his own. It was smaller than the grand elder's but larger than the rest showing his status as the next clan head.
The room was brightly lit with red wax candles on the walls around them and the large round table which had a detailed version of our clan banner. The banner had a purple backdrop with a dragon-headed snake. It's body curled around a thorny red rose while it attempted to bite its tail.
The table held a few different wines but all of them our own brand. There were silver cups at each throne 7 in total but only 5 positions were filled. The ones missing would be the Patriarch who had the largest throne of all of them and another elder that was currently away on a "training trip".
Shen Ming quickly glanced around the room and was a bit surprised by Shen Yue being here but then quickly disregarded it seeing him standing next to Shen Xiu. After looking around, he focused his eyes on the audience; although he was one of the weakest members of the council cultivation wise.
With his head elder position and being the one to teach Shen Fei he firmly held his position of power mainly due to the current Patriarch's fear of being overthrown during his cultivation.
He had a great experience with these matters and knew things were never simple at meetings especially at clan meetings. Shen Yue showing up unannounced meant that he wanted to be involved in clan affairs and by proxy aim for the clan head position.
It was not a leap in logic since from the elders' point of view Shen Yue's personality, and ambition would never head to a "dull and dry" meeting like this on his initiative.
He saw Shen Xiu who never had much talent, but was doted on between her elder brother and the former patriarch so she had a higher position than him.
But with the fact that she was a woman meant her power was not stable and would soon need to be married for an alliance and by then would have no status to attend these meetings.
Both of them being together meant that Shen Xiu's act towards Shen Yue finally worked and managed to get him interested in the clan head position which if came true would raise her status and lower his own as long as she had control over him.
"She would either continue acting as the boy's "Mother" or use her charms if necessary like she deliberately tempts the young master and plays him against Shen Yue.
Now with Shen Yue aiming for the Patriarch position, there is little chance of reconciliation between brothers. Not to mention I can't talk about the Dark Guild's connection since that kid might blab it out to the world and it's a risk I can't take." Thought Shen Ming before speaking again.
"Today we speak about the crippled dragon initiative, Marriage of the younger generation, The Young generation tournament, and we might have enough time for a few other topics you wish to bring up."
Shen Ming spoke in his well-practiced tone, empathizing the marriage of the younger generation and the crippled dragon initiative while glossing over the last few lines about other topics. Shen Ming then continued in a clear and engaging voice.
"Currently we have annexed 70% of the properties of the Winged dragon family and another ten percent counting the debt for cultivation materials and the other elders in the family who failed to pay off their debts. This completely puts them into a corner and grants us assess to some of their special herbs and a good number of popular restaurants.
We can only completely take over the family by marrying the young mistress of the family to one of our young masters and it would then complete the control we have over the family causing us to be closer to the divine family in terms of wealth.
This brings us to our next topic and I suggest we marry Shen Fei to the only child and Young Mistress Xiao Ninger!" His voice was calm throughout until he got to the topic of marriage and in a striking and determined voice proposed the marriage.
This did a few things it 1. Prevent's Shen Fei's woman from having sway over him due to her status and strength
2. It allowed Shen Fei to continue his philandering ways
3. It prevented Shen Xiu from having much sway over her future marriage matters and if interest is lost in her by then risk her having marriage brought forward.
4. It prevents the marriage between him and Ye Ziyun if that happened then Shen Fei's spot as Patriarch would be in greater danger and if he offended Ye Zong then their position as a Major family would be in peril.
It was time for him to put the second nail in the coffin he gave off a slightly evil grin even when he did his best to hide it.
Shen Yue expected this since it happened in the novel but it was still jarring to him how little control he had over his fate and how easily everyone around him can squash him like a bug.
"Although I expected this to happen it's crazy how little control I have over my fate. At least my marriage shouldn't be completely decided due to Shen Yue actively pursuing Ye Ziyun because he wanted to have a better chance of vying for the clan patriarch position but with my reincarnation and me attending this meeting, things may change.
In fact, if I was him I would marry me to Ye Ziyun but do it in a way that would separate me from the family and bind me to-"
Shen Yue's inner thoughts were interrupted by Shen Ming's Speech
"And in celebration for Shen Yue, staying alive after that terrible condition! The second son of the Patriarch descended from the mainline of the Sacred Family! I suggest we should propose a sacred union between him and the Snow wind family's only daughter.
This will not only strengthen the connection between our two families but raise our status and position to vie for the city lord title. " Said
Shen Ming with an expression of excitement and joy but his eyes were full of the most disgusting bile of evil intentions you have seen.
Shen Yue shook a bit realizing what this meant for Shen Ming to do something like this.
