Chapter 3: Denial and Truth

Anna once again felt her consciousness being returned to her. Saying she was excited would be an understatement, she had a new lease on life and was planning on making the most of it.

She tried to open her eyes, only to realize she couldn't. 'That's weird...' She thought. Then she also felt a bunch of warm, squishy, squirming things moving around her. 'What the heck is going on?' Anna wondered to herself. She let out a sigh only to realize that she couldn't hear herself, in fact she couldn't hear anything. Am I blind and deaf?!? And what am I feeling right now?!? Anna couldn't figure out what was going on, and remained confused when she felt the back of her neck being grabbed as she was picked up.

At this point Anna was feeling indignant, 'put me down right now!' she tried to shout, but she wasn't even sure she was making noise. She continued to try and struggle, flail her limbs, and make noise until she was set down, she felt warmth and suddenly she smelt something sweet. She instinctually felt it was her mother, and the scent was milk. Although she was reluctant, Anna was already disassociating from her strange situation and went ahead and nursed.

Anna was still confused but she felt tired and decided she would try to figure it out when she woke up.

After a few days of this repeating, Anna was starting to have suspicions, 'I'm blind and deaf at birth, I have several of what I think are siblings, I'm frequently picked up by the back of my neck… Haha, no way.' She went straight into denial. 'I'm just being overly suspicious, there's no way the god would reincarnate me as a… haha.'

But after another week her hearing developed. Her world was now filled with whimpering, and occasional growling. At this point her situation was apparent. However, Anna doubled down on denial, 'There's no way, there's no way, haha, no way,' she raved.

She continued living, crawling around, nursing, and trying to ignore her playful siblings for another few days until finally she could open her eyes.

She was struck with the truth of the situation and was no longer able to deny it. Looking at her large furry mother in front of her, her cute little siblings now sleeping, and finally at her own fuzzy little paws.

'I'M A DOG?!?'

'WHAT THE F**K!?!'

Anna generally didn't curse, she'd encountered it online but hadn't really done it herself. But in this situation she couldn't help herself.

'WHY AM I A DOG?!?' Anna's outburst continued. 'I know I asked to be cared for, but NOT AS A DOG!'

'FUUUUUUU!' she tried to shout a profanity but it only came out as a cute "Awoooo!"

After being shell shocked for a few days, she began to pay some attention to her surroundings and noticed that they were a little strange. She was in a somewhat dim and large room, lit only by small windows along one wall and a cage door. There were people, who would come and feed her mother every day, clean the room, and check the health of the pups. She eventually came to the conclusion that she was in a store, which was confirmed when she overheard one of the store workers conversations, which she could strangely understand despite not knowing the language. They also wore strange uniforms with animal tails and ears. Anna didn't think much of it.

She also noticed she seemed to be a weird breed of dog, her mother looked like a wolf, but completely white with red eyes. She guessed she looked the same as her mother, because all her siblings did. She figured it must be some rare or collectible breed of Siberian Husky with albinism. She thought it was strange since albinism was a gene mutation and not something that can be breed.

But Anna didn't really care. With all of this and everything going on, Anna still hadn't thought much about the god's words, her past life, her death, mana, or any of it. She was too busy moping in the corner of the room.

'Whyyyy am I a dog???' She kept questioning herself. She spent her time mostly eating or sleeping to avoid the reality of the situation.

This routine continued until a few weeks later when one day some unusually loud and numerous voices approached the room's iron bar door.

Kinda a short chapter, but the next few will be longer.

The tone and writing style took a big turn from the last chapter. I wasn't sure how to gradually change them with this story. So I might edit it later if I think of something.
