Chapter 10: The Untitled Song
Back to the present.
Vladimir who just know about the truth is trembling and has an expression of being terrified. He was terrified by the fact that the most important person in his life died in a miserable death. Because of his current state, Night immediately escaped after seeing it. Vladimir knew it, but he just let him escape because as of the moment he felt empty and has no strength to deal with him. After a minute of just standing, rain suddenly poured. The water is dripping in Vladimir's pale handsome face. He gritted his teeth for being so irritated to himself.
'What a stupid mistake did I made. I am so confident that she won't leave my side because I know that she loved me wholeheartedly... but all I've ever done is to hurt her completely. I am so stupid! Stupid!' Vladimir thought.
On his way to the mansion, Vladimir reminisce all his delightful moments with Luna that made him smile, but his eyes are full of longing and sorrow. He remembered Luna's beautiful voice when he is calling him and giving lovely lullabies to their children, her magnificent look when she is practicing her swordsmanship, her sleeping face, her rare smiles, everything. He even remembered that Luna can't cook despite being perfect at everything. Since they are vampires, Luna once said to him that they don't need human food because it won't make them full, but Vladimir wanted to try it just once because of his curiosity. When he experienced eating human food by the help of Lianna, he was so grateful and got attached to her.
When Vladimir almost reached the mansion, he heard a sudden gunshot. He hurriedly went to the location where the gunshot came from, it was in the dining room. He saw Irene fighting with Night with an unbelievable speed to normal human people. Irene is using 'Eclipse' while Night is using 'Light'.
"You damn vampire... how dare you use a divine weapon using that filthy hands of yours. How shameful" Irene sarcastically said as she pant because she already exhausted so much energy.
"Same to you. Why are you running away to a divine weapon? If you are human, any divine weapon won't be able to damage or hurt you. Don't tell me you are a vampire too?" Night asked in a cold manner. Irene gave him a death glare and attacked him, but Night shot her in her thigh faster before 'Eclipse' could reach him. No blood, no damage, but Irene is petrified.
"Damn you... You stupid vampire!" Irene said. After saying that, legions of black energy with human form came out of nowhere.
"W-What's this...?" Night said, terrified.
"Phantoms, a kind of demon" Vladimir said as he already encountered this type of creature during the war 1,500 years ago. Night never encountered this type, he only encountered those with physical form.
"They are not the normal ones. They feed on any negative energy and gave you illusions, if you get drowned by it you'll become like them whether if you are a human or a vampire" Vladimir said. He looked at Irene who looks distracted.
"Irene, what's the problem?" Vladimir asked.
"N-Nothing" Irene briefly replied.
Irene once experienced being swallowed by this kind of demons and it's something that she never wanted to experience again. Unfortunately, she is dealing with them again. The three of them used all ounce of their energy to eliminate all the negative energy, but again Irene was caught.
"Irene!" Vladimir called her name as he saw the dark energy gradually swallowing her.
"Call my uncle--!" Irene said in a hurry before she was completely swallowed by the dark energy.
Vladimir and Night terminated all the dark energy except the one who swallowed Irene. Vladimir is looking at the dark energy and remembered Irene's face as she was being swallowed by it.
"I was not able to protect you... again!" Vladimir mumbled as he gritted his teeth.
"Look her for me. If anything strange happens, send a telepathy immediately" Vladimir said as he immediately leave without affirming an answer from Night.
"Tch. I am not your subordinate" Night said, but he sat on the floor and looked after the dark energy who swallowed Irene.
Meanwhile, Vladimir went to the building where vampire slayers stay. The guards tried to stop him, but he used his manipulating power in order to enter the vicinity. Before he could reach the office of Chairman Luke, Irene's uncle, he encountered some vampire slayers, but he just knocked them all out. As soon as he entered the chairman's office, the chairman also welcomed him with an attack using his divine weapon 'Alpha', a huge trident.
"What a way to welcome a guest" Vladimir said as he dodged the attack.
"This is how we welcome uninvited guests" Luke said.
"What brings you here?" Luke asked.
"Irene" when Vladimir mentioned her name, Luke already felt that she is in danger.
"What did you do to my niece?" Luke asked in a cold manner.
"S-She was swallowed by the Phantoms..." Vladimir said with a worried tone.
"Lead the way" Luke immediately said and they immediately departed.
"Hey! What took you so long?!" Night asked as he was panting. While Vladimir is gone, the dark energy started to attack Night, he wanted to counterattack but he's afraid that something bad might happen to Irene.
"Didn't I tell you to send telepathy immediately?!" Vladimir said in an irritated tone.
"I tried--" Night was cut-off when they suddenly hear a humming from the dark energy. Luke and Vladimir were surprised. For Vladimir, the song being hummed is the untitled lullaby that Luna sang to their children, but for Luke it's different.
"We're late" Luke said.
"What do you mean?" Vladimir asked with a terrified look.
"It will depend on her if she will allow the dark energy to swallow her or fight back and return to our world. If that dark energy turned into a human form, then that means she chose to be swallowed" Luke replied.
