Chapter 9: Chapter VIII
I looked around the room and swallowed. The black woman eyed me, head to toe.
"So this is Athena?" She asks.
"Look closely." Athena's voice echoes through my mind.
I scan her the way she scans me. She's wearing jeans with a floral print shirt. Her hair is braided and put into a bun.
Then I see what Athena meant. Her eyes are a dark green color and with, you guessed it, a golden rim around the edge.
"Yes, I am." Athena says answering the womans question.
"Where have you been?" asks the younger girl that guided us in together with Raymond and the other kid.
"Everywhere and no where." Athena responds.
She seems to know these people. To me they're just complete strangers though.
"Where were you when we needed you?" asked someone in a sad voice.
I look in the direction of the voice and see a little boy, sitting by the fireplace. He is facing the fire.
"We lost because you left us.."
I processed his words. Neither Athena or I answered. But I could feel there was something she wasn't telling me..
I force myself to give an answer to the boy.
"I'm sure she didn't mean to." I say.
Because I'm convinced that whatever Athena did, she did for a good reason. Right?
"You act as if you know her." The little boy says.
"How long has she been in your head?"
"Urm... About three weeks I guess?" I respond.
"Oh great she's still green behind the ears!" The black woman says again.
But this time it's her true voice, not the godlike person inside her.
"Thanks.." I mutter.
"Well if you really are our Athena than why don't you prove it?" A snarky voice behind me says.
I turn around and see a woman of around 50. She has red hair and looks like one of those people who complain about every small detail.
"Now now Karen, no need to get all worked up." Ray says.
Her voice changes.
"No, I wanna know too so I can kick her ass for leaving us like that."
I can feel Athena is angry at whoever this woman holds.
"Well here is your proof Hera." She says with words full of venom.
I get the icey feeling all over again and I hate it. It feels like I'm being sucked out of my body and all of a sudden I'm looking at the woman that is Athena. In the middle of the room she stands tall.
Even the little boy turned around to look at her. In fact they all stared.
Athena was wearing a white Greecian dress. Over it is her golden armor.
I am taken aback. Last time she took over she just looked like a random person in the store. I had no idea that she could do this.
Athena looked around the room and suddenly i knew who they all were. Well I didn't but Athena looked at each of them and thought of their names.
It's actually a pretty smart move. I hear what she thinks without her having to say it.
The black woman held the goddess Demeter.
The red headed woman held Hera.
The boy by the fire shared a body with lady Hestia.
Raymond with Hades.
The younger girl that accompanied us down the stairs held Artemis.
The boy that looked like her held Apollo.
The man Raymond adressed as Phineas earlier was sharing with the god Hephaestus.
Leaning against the wall in the dark shadows stood a boy that held the titan Kronos.
A little away from the boy sat two men with cards in their hands. One of them held Poseidon and the other Zeus.
The man that held Zeus got up from his seat and layed his cards down on he table. I saw Poseidon trow his cards away in anger.
Zeus walked towards Athena as the rest made way so he could walk past. He too changed his form.
A man even taller than Athena. Like her he had golden armor. Grey hair that was combed backwards. a full grey beard and sky blue eyes.
"Finally you have returned." He said in a deep voice.
Zeus layed a hand on Athena's shoulder. I could feel her filling up with pride.
For a moment i thought they would hug, but they just nodded at one another.
It felt weird. For me that is. I suppose this is how Athena must feel when she's in my head looking at my life. It felt as if i was intruding. Always third-wheeling.
'Urm... Not to interrupt or something but do you think i can have my body back or..?' I think.
A sigh escapes Athena's lips. Everything shifts back to place and my body is my own again. My headache is worse then normal and both my shoulders have a very painful sting in them.
"Happy now?!" Athena says both to me and the people in the room.
