Chapter 2: Enigma

I woke to screaming, the sound of items being smashed along with long streams of curses being uttered echoed in my ears. I checked my phone seeing hundreds of notifications that I didn't feel like dealing with at the moment.

I need to get out of here I thought to myself. I decided to go on a walk around town, just stay out of the way and ignore my shit life for a bit. I threw on a pair of stonewashed jean shorts with a black belt, a flowy white T-shirt, and a pair of my white hightops. I took my phone off the charger and grabbed my earbuds knowing well I wouldn't get anywhere without my music.

I plugged them in and searched for my playlist titled 🅱ops filled to the brim with AC:DC, Fall Out Boy, Panic!, Set it off, Metalica, and more.

The thing people don't know about me is I have good taste in music, I'm just like a normal edgy teenager on the inside but on the outside, I have to be some popular girl who has this "perfect life". It's not what people think, I'm not what people think, an enigma if you will. I have no idea how my life got to where it is now, somewhere along the lines I just fell into the wrong crowd.

I put both earbuds in, in an attempt to block the outside world. I pressed play on my playlist seeing the title Sleep by the one and only MCR. A slight feeling of sadness washed over me, I related to this song too much. I pushed it aside and shoved my phone in my pocket.

I swung a small backpack filled with my wallet, a sketchbook, and a small notebook along with a few pens and pencils over my shoulder and started to crawl out my window. I grabbed onto a nearby branch and hoisted myself upon said tree, slowly walking down the branch holding my arms out for balance.

My foot slipped causing my knee to scrape from the branch, I quickly grabbed hold of it again, letting myself hang for a bit before jumping down, landing with one knee bent, and one perched on top of the soft grass.

I stood and brushed myself off, my left knee slightly scraped. A small amount of blood finding its way through the freshly grated skin. It didn't hurt though, I was used to it by now. A few layers of skin were pulled back on my hand's but I just started walking off, ignoring the small stinging in my hands. I ran passed the windows hoping not to be seen, knowing my mother wouldn't approve of my current appearance. I turned the corner to get onto the sidewalk and started my long walk to the town square.
