Chapter 72: Returning Mary

Standing on the path that led to a simple two-story house with a wire fence surrounding it David noticed the missing person sign within the front window and on the front door.

David walked first up the stone pathway; it seemed the grass had not been cut in a while. Reaching the front door, it was opened before David could knock.

A woman stood before David, she seemed short with short brown hair and black eyes. She might have been average in attractiveness once, but now her skin was pale, and she had the signs of sleep deprivation on her face. Her voice contained a hint of hope almost lost.

"Hello? Did you come about the sign?" David thought the assumption might be reasonable, maybe more desperate though. Strangers walking up to your door when your child is missing, hope could make you desperate.

David smiles warmly, "Yes, we have. Could we possibly enter?" David's large form was currently blocking Steph and the precious package she was carrying, all the woman could see clearly was David, Hela, and someone behind them.

"You have? Yes, yes, please come in, sit, please. Have you seen her? Have you seen Mary?" The woman seemed to suddenly get overly excited, the sound of desperation could be heard in her voice.

As they moved into the house, they saw stairs running up to their right, the passage before them seemed to connect to a kitchen in the back. They headed left into the lounge; it was only then the woman noticed Steph carrying something wrapped within a blanket. She almost leaped forward if not for Steph raised hand indicating her to stop, then pulled the same hand back and raised her finger to her lips.

Marilyn Baston never once seemed to question this woman being able to hold what she assumed was a child, maybe her child so easily with one hand, her look became more desperate as she forced herself to hold back.

The sofa seemed to be of a carpet weave with a checked black and red pattern, David indicated Hela and Steph to sit on the two-seater as he sat on the one-seater. Marilyn sat on the armrest of the last one-seater and stared longingly at what Steph might have in her arms.

"I need you to be as quiet and calm as you can possibly be. I am about to tell you about your daughter, I am not going to be telling you nice things but know that she is safe now. When I am done telling you everything, I will show you your daughter." As she said this Marilyn almost jumped forward, but suddenly found herself frozen in place, she looked very confused as Steph continued, "Once you have seen her, I will give you an option of how you want to help her, as you can see I am able to do things normal people cannot. I will give you the option of me or my husband helping your daughter." David nodded at Steph's words, he had no idea how to handle this situation and left it totally in Steph and Hela's hands.

Steph then described how they had found Mary, leaving nothing out, her mother sat there crying and shuddering as she stared at the wrapped-up blanket containing her little girl.

"I have made her sleep and have pleasant dreams; I need you not to be too loud," Steph said as she gently unfurled the blanket to reveal the girl asleep in the fetal position.

Marilyn scuttled over and carefully lay her hands on the girl, looking over her carefully but gently. She looked up desperately as she seemed to ask something.

Steph looked sad as she answered, "I could make her forget it all, "She seemed to stress the word all and Marilyn sobbed, "I do not suggest it though. I think my husband should remove all the drugs and her dependency. I suggest I dampen her emotional connection to the events but allow it to return as she gains the ability to deal with it. You would need to get her therapy though."

"You can do that? You can make her forget it all? Why not do that?" Marilyn asked seeming a little confused.

"The mind is powerful; we have no idea how that will affect her. If I am honest, I am not that keen to dampening her connection to the events, but I just cannot leave her with that horror."

"I guess you know this kind of thing best, as long as I get my little girl back, I will do what you think is best."

As she said that the girl changed before her eyes, she became healthy once more, she was looking like she did in the poster.

Mary's mother gasped, "You did that?"

Steph smiled and shook her head, "No, that was my husband. My work starts now and will take a few minutes."

They sat quietly for a few minutes as Marilyn was looking back and forth between Steph and Mary.

Smiling Steph looked at Marilyn, "Done, as she gets the emotional tools to deal with what happened, my dampening will fade. Now she needs rest and care, remember she will still know what happened, but it will seem to people like she has had a mental break from the events."

Steph leaned forward and gently passed Mary on to her mother to hold, "Hunny, we can go now."

Marilyn looked up from her daughter to find her and her little girl was now alone in the room.

"Thank you, "Marilyn said softly as tears kept running down her cheeks.

Appearing back on the street they had found Mary they all let out a sign of gentle relief before the sound of someone screaming in pain resounded in their ears.

Some other people were moaning about keeping it down as David grinned, the sound came from the box the man was in Hela had cursed, this was something David wanted to see, he needed to know this puss of human existence was suffering.

As he approached the plastic, he had ripped off was now blown against the fence and the box had nothing preventing him from seeing inside.

Inside was the scrawny man withing in agony as his flesh seemed to have blotches of necrosis, as the man clawed at it some of it fell off showing the flesh beneath in the same state.

David grinned to himself as the man seemed to sense someone watching him, he opened his eyes and looked towards David. His screams suddenly got a lot louder as he tried to crawl out the back of his box. David realized he was not looking at him, but the smiling Hela behind him.

She then whispered to the man, "Not yet, you need to suffer a lot longer and a lot more."

David chuckled as he walked over to the wall right next to the man's box and pulled the ladies through it.

"Welcome ladies, to the Rock of Eternity, made from two large rock formations, one from Heaven and one from Hell, just to hold the "Three faces of Evil." Or rather, Terror, Sin, and Wickedness. And also, prison to … oh that is just not right"

Before them was a cave-like tunnel on the left side seven broken statues could be seen, while on the right an empty stone pedestal. At the end of the cave were seven chairs, standing upright before the middle chair was a plain-looking staff with a small gem on top, at the side lay a large old worn book.
