Chapter 2: Adventure

I was haunted by Anubis. His voice lingered inside my head. Every day he would talk in his deep menacing voice whispering "All the lives you let die... All the children, all the people, killed by your failure!" He torments me, he grasps my head with his hands.

The mountain has earned many nicknames. The Departer, The Parting Of Ways, The Gods Parting, the list goes on. It's a point of refuge and removal, many people are scared, but not the Avanelar. The mystical warriors of the Avana, they fought wars with the Balava until it all stopped. Darius Balava and Avana Balava were siblings, they were twins. They studied together, worked together, they were friends. Until Parinus tempted Darius to betray his sister! Darius went to murder his sister, but she had become so close to her brother she knew what he was doing.

He was given a whip, it held the equivalent power of a lightning bolt. He was prepared to kill his sister, he couldn't turn back now. He drew the weapon on her, Avana holding her sword already. They fought, no one interfered. It caused destruction inside there home. Their parents began to fight, and they continued.

In the end, no one won. Avana escaped Darius and left her home, she travelled far away until she discovered The Gods Parting. She was gifted with a sword, filled with flames. She spoke with the Gods and Goddesses until they told her who Parinus was. He had left their circle after he was accused of being treasonous. He sought out for someone full of rage and found her brother.

They both formed religions in their names, The Avana and The Balava. They fought many wars against each other, but more and more people got hurt. Their final battle brought it all to an end. The Gods watched over the battle and had enough. They saw what Darius had created a bomb that would kill everything and decided to stop them.

They threw Darius inside of an unbreakable and unbreachable prison and left him there to die. His mentor, Parinus was executed for his treason. Avana took her place among the Gods, her only son was left to teach her peaceful religion. He taught more people and they slowly grew more and more.

They always travel to the mountain to seek inner peace or for purification, but most of the time, no one returns. Maybe it was my turn to see what happens in the sky.

It was foretold that every person's experience was different. Someone could have a target shooting challenge or a sword-fighting challenge. They all vary, but I had my thoughts. I had brought swords, daggers and a crossbow, ready for whatever challenges I would come up against.

As usual, nothing interesting happened on the journey to the mountain. Just the corrupted thoughts that the fiendish Anubis was torturing the soul out of Alex. Every day I wonder... What is Alex doing? Is he winning his war? He will return one day but now was not the time.

The entrance was a giant hole inside the edge. It was completely black, like a shroud of darkness hiding my fate, my destiny...

I walked through and looked around this dark room. Nothing was there.

"James Renstrider..."

"Goddess..."

"We've all been expecting you, after the huge stunt you pulled!" the goddess creates a pink glare in the eternal darkness of the mountain. Her long hair ripples through the musky air. Her eyes sparkle with power and age, she has seen so much in the many years she has ruled among us.

"That 'stunt' was not my fault. You're the gods, send a sign telling me that I shouldn't do this!"

"Fate is inevitable. You did what you must and now you're a hero among all!"

"Listen, Miss, I'm not here to squabble with you. I just want to accept my summoning and be free from this torment!"

She looks at me with a smirk, she knows the passion of an adventurer. Many alike must have passed through this empty, this infinity room.

"This room can put you through the biggest of tests, puzzles, fights, anything. I see you came prepared..." I stay silent, "Yes, you may begin! Just remember... Always Continue Creating Explosive Powerful Tanks To Help Each other Then Remember Unite Together Happily!"

She disappears. Her last sentence made no sense at all, I just ignored it. Dissolves into particles which rise to the top of the cave. The darkness falls and around me is an arena. It wasn't real, just an illusion to make me think it was real. Opposite me is a metal fence, 10 times the size of me. The ground shook, people screamed and chains shattered, something was coming.

The gate was repeatedly abused. Dents were formed, red eyes glowed at me. The gate was ripped away and an excruciating roar followed. Footsteps crunched on the sand. A stone golem walked out from the shadows. Chains drop off of its arms, I stare at the size of this creature.

He looks dead into me, we both do nothing. In a flash, he grabs the broken gate and lobs it at me. It spins around like a spinning top, I jump out the way as it lodges itself inside the wall behind me. The golem rams it's bulky arms into the ground and runs at me like a rampaging ape. I pull out my bow and load it full of arrows.

I pull the strings, they fire and bounce off him. It hardly affected him. I pull out my daggers ready to slide under his legs. I drop down as he swings his chunky arms at me and attempts to slash at him. It lets out a cry, I look at his legs and down to my daggers. They are rigged and misshapen. It wasn't a cry, it was a laugh. This wasn't an even fight.

Thick rock skin against tough Iron blades. Rock always wins...

All my weapons had been warped, broken and deflected. I could only dodge, slide or run. This had gone from an easy fight to an unfair fight. Maybe this was the god's ways of killing me. Letting the man who saved the world die in the hands of a walking rock.

I was getting tired, I was losing hope. This was my death, I should accept that. I stood where I began, facing the beast. It locked onto my position and prepared to charge at me. It dropped it's arms into the sand and ran towards me. Time stopped.

Everything went quiet. I could hear nothing but my own breath. My eyes were clenched together, my arms shaking, my mind in acceptance. Then it stopped. My breathing returned back to normal, I open my eyes. The fist of the creature was positioned just above my face.

It had stopped, nothing moved. It let out a sort of grown and fell to the ground. The magma that held it together had disappeared, it was just a pile of rocks. Then I realised what she meant...

"ACCEPT THE TRUTH," I said, she told me exactly how to win, I just didn't realise.

The room turned back to darkness. This woman appeared again with a smile.

"You figured it out then?" She asked

"It's not the easiest of clues I've gotten before, but why that?" I replied

"Every fight and battle you have ever done leads to destruction or death. You need to accept the truth that sometimes you have lost or need to retreat. Not everything is going to go your way." She says I stay quiet.

Then the darkness once again falls and she has disappeared. I open my eyes onto the Gods, the Guardians. They didn't kill the people, the people killed themselves. They didn't take the guides or the clues given to them, that was their downfall.

A new journey had begun, but this was bigger than the last. Everything was at stake...
