Chapter 31: Limit

The only thing that was holding Violet back from pushing through her decisions for Lucas was her fear of getting hurt. One moment she would say something the other moment she would think of the opposite. Her instability with her decisions was a bad thing and she knew that. She knew it well since she would always end up in between whenever she hesitated on taking a risk.

She was left alone in the clinic and the silence inside the room gave her time to think. Abigail had already given her thought and she had an idea of what Raven would possibly say to her. In the end, she had to make a firm decision for herself.

Lucas was about to say something about her earlier, right? She couldn't help but wonder what it was going to be about.

As lunch break came, Violet began eating her food alone in the room. Just because Abigail was her best friend doesn't mean they were required to spend time with each other whenever they were free. The good thing about their friendship was it was not high maintenance. Violet loves her alone time while Abigail has other things in mind; flirting with the handsome guidance counselor.

Just when she thought that no one would be coming to disturb her, she suddenly remembered the man who bothered her earlier.

She took a glance at the wall clock. Fifteen minutes have passed since lunch break started... He should be arriving anytime soon. She didn't realize that she began eating so slowly as she waited for the man to come.

When she suddenly heard a knock, her eyes became alive as they landed on the man who entered the room.

"Man, the line was long in the cafeteria. I should have brought food from home instead."

"Why are you here?" Violet asked as she raised a brow at Lucas.

"Am I not allowed to be here anymore?"

"You can just eat your food at the faculty office you know."

"But I prefer to eat together with you." He retorted with a charming smile plastered on his lips.

His remark brought a blush on Violet's cheeks. She was not used as such straightforwardness from a man like him. Things were different when she was with Jason. He was always busy and he never really spend much time with her since she was a woman of few words but whenever she was with Lucas, she couldn't help but talk more than she usually did but at the same time, she would end up speechless because of his sudden inserts of flirtatious remarks.

Lucas went and pulled a chair towards her before he sat in front. He pulled out the sandwich and drink he bought from the cafeteria.

Violet ended up looking at how little the food he has for lunch, "Are you sure that will be enough for you?"

"Of course it's not but you can say that I'm on a diet today."

She looked at him and raised another brow. Diet?

"Although I would have eaten more if I saw you at the cafeteria."

She knew what he meant even if he didn't say it directly. Faculty staff preferred bringing lunchboxes since it would be more convenient for them instead of lining up together with the students and eating in the cafeteria since they wouldn't be able to bring the food to the office. Of course, there were other food options if one doesn't wish to eat at the cafeteria like the sandwiches he bought.

Why was he doing things he shouldn't for her?

"Please don't do this..." She lowered her head.

He blinked a few times, "Hm? Do what?"

"Giving me hope." She wanted to say that to him but she couldn't but instead, she said another thing, "You don't have to go this far. You can eat on your own and stop visiting me here. Like seriously. We don't have to always see each other. Our relationship is fake. Our contract doesn't state that we have to be together every chance we can get. You're doing things that are giving me a hard time." She babbled in frustration. "I'm already trying my best to stop these feelings from growing any further!"

Violet was already at her limit. She felt like she was pushed into a corner. Whenever it came to him, things were different for her. Why does she feel so attached to him? It would usually take a long time before she could feel an attachment to someone and yet here he was. A man who she recently knew and yet the sense of trust and connection she has with him was making her question herself. It was brewing chaos inside her.

Just who is this Lucas Hei that made her feel this way?

He was giving her conflicted feelings. Her sudden outburst was a surprise even for Lucas but as he listened to her, the look in his eyes changed as he became serious.
