Chapter 595: I'M STUDYING

22 FEBRUARY, MONDAY, 1:30PM

Ki decided to used the Brioche (read bread) to make Bombay Toast (read fried in a pan)... And then drizzled with melted raspberry flavored white chocolate sauce because the frozen raspberries were on sale this week.

He served it to both Harvey and me with a glass of milk each. I was perfectly happy with cold milk, but Harvey asked, "Can I have coffee, Ki?"

But Ki said this was what pups from Night Forest Pack traditionally had for breakfast or an afternoon snack after school and he wanted us to be able to savor the full experience. I did, I was so hungry I inhaled the entire experience within minutes. I had to admit, the experience really made me question why my dad had to leave his home pack. It was that good. My dad was insane to have left that all behind.

But it turned out that my good beta didn't like milk. He barely touched it.

"Aren't you thirsty, Harvey?" I asked after washing down everything with my milk. I licked my mill moustache.

Harvey shook his head, "Not really."

"He hates milk." Ki smiled his beautiful smile.

I grinned. Who would've thought that my good beta hated milk? Hahaha.

Ki joined us with his laptop after he had finished cleaning up in the kitchen. Ki liked to do his beta laptop work in the kitchen. Watching him now made me realize that all our social media and pack PR was probably handled here. Or maybe he just didn't have a choice since it wasn't like he could bring the stove to the office.

Harvey had stopped eating, but unlike me, it wasn't because he had finished his food, {If you knew that...}

Oh, he was mindlinking Ki. So I should politely pretend I didn't hear that, right?

Ki paused his typing but didn't look up from his laptop, {Guess.}

{How would I know?} Harvey did not hide his impatience over the mindlink.

{Wrong.} Ki smiled and went back to typing on his laptop.

{S***. You're worse than my mum when Dad forgets their anniversary.} Harvey informed Ki.

Whatever Harvey did must have seriously cheesed Ki off because Ki refused to even respond to Harvey after that. Normally, Ki would've laughed at that right?

I mean, I pictured Harvey's sweet Mum suddenly refusing to serve coffee and poor Beta Gerald being totally clueless... It was a little bit funny.

But now even Harvey sounded pretty cheesed off with Ki too. His lips were pressed in a thin line, and his forehead was creased again. If Harvey kept that up, he was going to cultivate the same frown lines as his dad.

And even though it's my two betas, I did feel a bit like a kid caught between his mum and dad fighting. Just a bit, before I realized that technically, Mummy Ki and Daddy Harvey were fighting on mindlink, so I should just pretend to not know about it. Mind my own business. I'm sure my most diplomatic beta and my good beta would be able to talk it out properly on their own.

I pushed my plate away, "Thanks for the meal. I'm going to my room to study now."

Both betas stood up as I did and suddenly, it was like the earlier mindlink exchange at never happened.

Ki smiled like a flower to the sun, "You're most welcomed, goddess."

Harvey nodded and offered his usual parting words, "Is there anything else I can do for you, Alpha?"

I shook my head, "No, thanks. I'm good."

Growing up, whenever anyone had asked (and yes, there were busybodies who had asked), "Do you parents ever fight?"

Read, "Do our Alpha and Luna fight in the privacy of their home?"

I would shake my head confidently, "Never. My Mum and Dad are always of the same mind."

Because that's what Dad had told me, "Your mum and I are always of the same mind."

Did Dad mean, are always of the same mind-link? Hahaha.

"Your dad and I have discussions. We don't fight." Mum had elaborated.

Uh yeah. Sure.

But I had to hand it to Mum and Dad. If they had fought, I've never heard it. I used to think all soul mates didn't fight for the longest time. And then when we were in Middle School, Dean started telling me some pretty disturbing stuff that happened in his family. I was disturbed enough to ask Mum about it, but Mum just said it was normal for even soul mates who love each other to have "intense disagreements" sometimes and that Dean shouldn't have told me about it. I argued that we were best friends, so Dean was allowed to tell me stuff.

Anyway, after that, I figured some soul mates disagreed more than others.

Who knows, one day my pup might ask, "Do you and Dad ever fight?"

Wait no, "Dad" would be Bell right? In that case, my pup might ask, "Do you and Dad ever not fight?"

Yeah, that would be a more realistic scenario. Hahaha.

When I got to my room and took a quick shower because I needed to study. This was my one chance to really cram. I took out my history notes, and then my geography notes, and then my science notes... and it wasn't all that bad. {Lie}

I tried to work on the subjects based on the order they would be examined. So history first.

But after flipping through my notes a few times without reading it properly, I decided it wasn't getting me anywhere. There was no use going through everything without actually reading anything. Just reading the highlighted bits didn't cut it either. Because even though I had my super alpha wolf memory, all the dates got jumbled without any context. I flipped the notes back to page one. I would just have to read it word for word, but because I knew that no exam cared much about the Introduction Chapter, I decided to start on the Chapters with the most notes, because exams liked to test stuff with a lot of details like that.

Just as I had flipped to Chapter 7, Savy burst into my room and flopped onto my bed.

"I'm so bored." She rolled from one side of my bed to the other, "Soooo... bored..."

"Don't you have exams too?" I asked without looking up from my notes. I was flipping to check the thickness of each chapter to decide which to start on.

"Yeah, but its just math and advance math, so that is nothing to study." Savy told me, "Its not like you can study math."

"You're taking advanced math?" This was news to me. I had never thought of Savy as a math person, "I didn't know you liked math."

Savy shrugged, "It's not about liking it, its just easy."

Then she explained, "We can use these advanced classes to replace other subjects if it increases our GPA. With two maths, you easily get two As."

You mean, YOU easily got two As.

I would not. Math had never been my strong suit. Me and Maths was like a gamble and my grade was solely based on my luck that day.

This just proved to me that Savy was much smarter than I was.

But never mind, I needed to study. Wolves that were dumb at math had to do the hard work of memorizing humanities.

"Whatcha doing?" Savy asked hanging off my bed so that she was looking at me sitting at the dresser upside down.

"I'm STUDYING." I said pointedly, "Don't disturb me."

Savy was quiet for a moment and I read my first sentence.

"I can't believe I met my soul mate." Savy said to my ceiling.

"I can't believe your soul mate is River." I answered back on my ceiling's behalf.

Savy rolled over, "Really? What's he like?"

Eh?

"Like as a person. What kind of person is he?" Savy asked.

Urm... I thought really hard, how did you describe someone like River?

"He's okay." I managed.

Savy sighed, "That's it?"

"What do you want to know?" I asked.

Savy hummed and looked up at the ceiling like she was thinking, "I don't know..."

"Then how would I know?" I asked. Seriously, Savy of all people should know how bad I was at this girl talk thing.

And then I had an idea, "How about you think about it, write down your questions, and I'll find out."

I thought it was a brilliant idea.

Savy pouted and shook her head, "No thanks. You'd just end up giving the list to River."

Urm... yeah. Like who else would know better about River than River himself?

"Never mind... I'll find out more about him on my own." Savy decided.

"My way would be faster." I told her.

"Your way..." Savy sighed, "Sam, I love you, but subtlety had never been your strong point."

No, I guess not. It was just math that Savy could beat me hands down. Savy was also good at being sneaky - I mean subtle.

I shrugged, "Yeah, whatever. I need to study. Go away."

Savy cackled and got off my bed. But she didn't go, instead she stood behind me and played with my hair.

I got back at frowning at my history book. Of all the school subjects I had, I hated history the most. History at Winderhill was told quite differently from Lycan history mostly because it was told from the Gold Packlands human point of view, so there were details I knew, which would never be tested, and there were details I had no idea about that meant a great deal to the humans in the Gold Packlands. Why? Wasn't the Gold Packlands under Lycan authority? Why were their historians human?

Chapter 7 was the worst. It was about how the werewolves abandoned the humans to fend for themselves when the Great War was at its worst. I would say it was because the wolves were busy protecting their own soulmates and pups. Would YOU leave your own soulmate and pups to the mercy of cruel human hunters to protect the other humans from vampires? Shouldn't the human hunters use their hunting skills to protect their own kind, instead of taking advantage of the wolves to left their pack to protect their neighboring human towns and villagers? But nooo... they had to try to hunt the unprotected she-wolves and pups left behind. Humans were like that. They didn't like to take care of their own kind. They also liked to blame everyone but themselves. If they were to pin the blame on someone, shouldn't that someone be the vampires? But no, Chapter 7 made it sound like the wolves were the bad guys.

Did Principal Laura know that this was what they were teaching here?

I finally finished Chapter 7. It's super vexing to have to learn all these one-sided perspectives as fact - especially if it were against your own kind. Because UNLIKE HUMANS, I did care about my own kind. It just made me mad that the wolves in the Gold Packlands had always been blamed for the eradication of the human towns in the Gold Packlands. They even made it sound like the wolves had purposely abandoned them because the wolves wanted the territory for themselves. Puhlease Gold Packland Human Historians, if the wolves wanted your puny towns, they would have raided it themselves!

I leaned back and growled.

"Why? You don't like it?" Savy asked.

Oh. My hair was braided. I turned my head to check out the side view, "Oh... its pretty."

Savy grinned, "You're welcome."

And then she got a mindlink, "Lizzy's done with her revision. I'm going over. Wanna join us?"

I shook my head, "Unlike some people, I actually have to study."

"Okay. See you at dinner time." And then Savy was gone.

I sighed. On the bright side, Chapter 7 was the worst of it. I flipped to Chapter 5. This one was some long and boring thing about the industrialization of the Gold Packlands, turning it from a poor packlands with very scarce natural resources (the vamps controlled most of the mines) to a manufacturing giant. Of course Chapter 5 did not include how prior to being the continents biggest manufacturer of electronic components, the Gold Packlands was the biggest manufacturer of misinformation - they used to steal information and then leak inaccurate data, before selling the proven data at exorbitant prices. That would have been their primary income source - I'm not sure what industry that would fall under. Maybe Media and Communications. Yup, the LNC or LyNCh network had a pretty shady past.

Chapter 5 also didn't mention how the Gold Packlands was able to grow their manufacturing industry with raw material bought from the vampires - making the old covens who occupied the mines (which they had taken from the humans during the great war) very rich. Case in point, the Ciara Coven. But I couldn't quite point my finger at them, after all, the wealth from this is also currently being channeled to line my FAO's pockets through the contract I signed with Lord Edward.

I could go on and on, but its not like the history exam was going to ask me to list the discrepancies in Gold Packlands historical records. They won't even ask if I agreed with the version or not. History exams usually just wanted us to regurgitate the facts.

Blech.

Anyway, my time was up. It's just past 4pm. I've completed revising 2 chapters in 2 hours. Let's see, I just need another 12 hours and I'd be ready for the exams tomorrow.

Two knocks on the door made to look over.

"Goddess," Ki said from behind the door, "A hundred apologies, but the Special Team have arrived. They are waiting for you in the Conference Room."

"Ah, yeah, okay." I quickly got up and went to the door, pulling it open to reveal Ki smiling behind it. I gave him one of my wide smiles, I could do with a break from all this studying, "Let's go."
