Into the multiverse

Somewhere in the a hidden plane of the vast cosmos, one elderly sage gazes upon a world on the bringe of destruction.

********†*********

One would wonder where it all went wrong. Was it the moment where the script looked nothing like the original?

Was it when a strange status panel appeared in the mind of a young man trying to survive in the war torn land of the dragons?

When the demons started acting civilized and building a fully functional system based on merit and ability? Or was it when they all forgot about the past?

War happened once again. What should have been the same old story with a predictable ending took the world by storm , overcoming all they thought they knew about the calamities.

The strongest warriors were the first to fall. The leadership and authority that had been fostered over the years crumbled in an instant.

To call it a war was a blatant lie, it was nothing but a massacre, it never took them as worthy opponents in the first place, just prey that was going to be consumed like the others.

***************************************************************

The dragon rose from his slumber, he stretched his body and looked around him, who would have thought that this land that was filled with blood and the bodies of all the species was once the prettiest city in the world.

He summoned his spear and he used it as support to walk, he still hadn't recovered from his previous injuries but it was time he met up with the rest of the squad.

They started as kids that were hailed as geniuses, as the hope and pillar of tomorrow, the stars shone the brightest and had no equal, now they were reduced to mere rodents. They had to run and fight a place to hide and could strike and move about when they were sure its forces were not in the area

"Resistance huhn, if only we can call it that,

Just how many of us are left now, how much more can we survive"

He spoke into empty air as if someone was with him and will reply him, maybe he was already crazy, it was a miracle that he could stay strong to this point, not when the ones that were hailed as the strongest didn't even last days.

He chuckled to himself before the familiar panel appeared before him

*Stay strong*

*Hope isn't lost yet*

"Hope isn't lost yet? Look around us, where's the hope?"

He screamed, stomping the blunt end of the spear into the soil. He screamed as he looked at the body of one of the few partners he had fought beside just a few hours ago.

"Just how many of us are left, 3, 4, I doubt it's more than that and you tell me there's hope."

He laughed before he picked up his spear, resting it against his shoulder as performed a military salute before his fallen brethren. A smile decorating his face even as tears fell.

"Maybe i have gone crazy indeed as i want to believe in this hope"

*************************************************************

"Hey"

She called out loud as she tapped the man that was spiraled across the floor beside her

"Are you still alive"

A short moment of silence passed before the man grunted and turned to lay on his back. He grunted before opening his eyes and replying

"I might as well be dead"

The female shook her head before she turned and walked out of the cave they were in. On getting to the outside of the cave, bodies of beasts and the major races alike decorated the grounds.

The blood had mixed with the chunks of flesh and other liquids that she didn't nor want to recognise, but she didn't flinch at the sight, instead she fell on her knees and held her hands together to offer a prayer.

She was offering a prayer to ferry the souls of the fallen safely to the other side. However the voice of a man shook her from her prayer.

"You know, right now they are in a better state than we are."

He said with despair and fear filling his voice.

"At least for them the battle has ended. They are going to rest. They no longer have to suffer through this hell with us."

She got up from her prayer, turning towards the man slapping him across the face. She stared at his eyes as she spoke to him.

"Don't make light of their sacrifices. Each and everyone of them fought until the very end. They gave their lives trying to fix the blasted world.

They are at peace? Look around you, which one of them died with a full corpse?

Which one of them has a smile on their face? Which one of them was happy to die? Even now you can't feel the spiritual fluctuations caused by their resentful souls that refuse to leave this world, can you?

And you call them at peace"

She screamed at the man, her voice breaking and her body trembling as she spoke.

"Look to your right. That's Kendyrx. He covered for you to enter the cave, fighting against the horde before he got torn apart. Split in 2 parts from the waist, and even the lower part can no longer be distin..."

"I didn't ask for any of this!!!"

The man screamed back at her.

"Of all of us, I'm the weakest, no special skills, no strength. If you guys are elephants, I can't even call myself an ant. Yet everytime I'm about to die, everytime something is about to happen to me, someone, one of you, the strong ones who are supposed to survive end up taking the fall for me.

You think that makes me happy!"

He screamed

"105 times, that's how many times I have seen my death since we started this journey and for each time, one of my comrades, one of my friends have died in my place.

Some were resigned to their fates and told me to live on, some cursed me and told me to join them soon, everyone of their deaths I relive every time I close my eyes.

And I can't even end it by taking my life because I carry the weights of their lives on my shoulders"

As he spoke, tears fell and his blue eyes glowed. Eyes that she had never seen before nor could she understand. Not in any of her lives did she have any information about them but many times had those eyes saved her and the rest of the group.

She stepped forward and hugged the man as he cried onto her shoulders. They remained like that for a while before he finally stopped crying and when they separated he spoke.

"Who would believe that the ice queen, the one who showed no emotions or understood human emotions would be the one to comfort me in my weak moments"

He tried to joke but he had to stop as he stumbled backwards, his eyes glowing once more, this time sigils appearing in his pupils as he cried tears of blood.

Not long after that, he fell into a trance.

"Just when will all these end, and how did the story turn this warped?"

She sighed as she supported him and waited for him to get back to normal, it still wasn't safe so she had to protect him until he was ready to move.

*************************************************************

She got up from her seated position and she vomited everything her stomach held before she fell backwards. It happened again. The intervals between each time getting shorter, she wasn't sure how long she could hold on for.

With every passing time, she heard his whispers and she felt herself losing control of her body. Her soul was more its than hers recently.

The young lady broke down and cried for a long time before his voice sounded in her head once more.

"How much more would you continue to defy me?

You know the end is inevitable.

There's just 4 of you left, and once I destroy you all, I would be able to descend unto this world and it would become part of my strength, so tell me girl.

"WHY DO YOU RESIST ME? HOW ARE YOU ABLE TO RETAIN YOUR SANITY FOR SO LONG? WHY DO YOU CONTEST WITH ME FOR OWNERSHIP OVER THE PERFECT VESSEL FOR MY DESCENT?

HAHAHA.

TRY ALL YOU CAN, BUT THE END IS STILL THE SAME, IT'S SET IN STONE, YOU ALL WOULD PERISH."

The voice continually rang out, growing from a whisper until it became a full on shouting voice and she blacked out once more, she could only watch on in a daze as her body rampaged on, destroying all that came in sight.

Sometimes it assumed control of the monstrosities that now walked the face of the Earth and they listened to its command, other times it destroyed them and consumed them using her body.

She couldn't count how many times she had cried and screamed for help but it never came. She had done all in her power to resist the corruption that had invaded her soul but alas the solution she came up with after countless trial and error was too late.

"If only I knew this years back before this bastard descended here"

But not even her unique ability could cross that far back in time, she could only pray he didn't find another human or major race before she was able to regain control of her body.

'Please, someone, save me'

A lone girl continued her battle against the parasite, the being that had invaded her soul and the souls of more than 90% of the world's population, the being that began the end of the world. Unfortunately no one could witness her performing a feat that not even the one that was hailed the strongest being was capable of.

SYSTEM NOTICE

You're fucked.

He could only stare at the system prompt in shock, looking around at the chaos and destruction around, maybe it was right. Maybe he was fucked.

Everything had ended, their last grasp at fixing everything, starting over and getting a happy ending, but even that seemed like an impossibility at that point.

He turned his head to look at the only comrade who remained standing at the end of their battle, the famous ice queen from his time in the academy and he could only shake his head in despair.

'Where is the hope you promised my system?'

He thought but this time the cheeky system that always had a word to say remained silent. No notice, no prompt, no beep, it was all silent.

The ice queen fell on the floor and he could hear her sobbing quietly but he couldn't say anything to comfort her as he was in a dilemma of his own. Was this how it was going to end?

He looked over at the only other figure present, a woman dressed in a knight's heavy armour, the opponent they had been fighting heavily against until just a short while.

He then sighed and walked towards the body of the comrade that had fought beside him in what should have been the last battle, his mind couldn't help but wander back to when he met them a few hours prior.

*************************************************************

When he arrived at the location he had discussed with the surviving members of his party, he knew he could no longer deceive himself.

They were just 3 left. And of the 3 only 2 were truly capable of battling the foe they had to face.

The last one was their navigator, well if he was to say it nicely. A poor man that had never been in contact with the awakeners world that got involved in the battle that happened at the beginning of it all.

Perhaps by fate, he managed to awaken in the middle of battle and received a unique ability, one that his system deemed as relevant. This proved to be right as many times had their lives been saved by his visions and revelations.

"Eyes that see between what exists and what doesn't"

he muttered to himself as he remembered the ability they possessed.

While the description of the yes seemed vague, the eyes offered some sort of omnipotence. No flaw existed before them.

From seeing what was hidden to seeing the possible future and even the flow of battle, the eyes could see it all, alas, it was a shame that the one who possessed the eye was a weakling that never raised a weapon until the war.

He didn't let that deter him though. The weak one picked up the sword of one of their comrades that had fallen in battle, a special katana that was known for its toughness and its sharpness, and he began training in the way of the sword.

It wasn't easy by any means as he lacked talent. He wasn't a genius and by the time he awakened he was already past the optimum age to awaken and train the body for combat. He learnt to fight, to defend himself and use his abilities on the field, something that the geniuses didn't do in their time as they lived in an era of peace.

But there was only so much he could grow, or so he thought, the dragon had watched over him from the time he picked up his sword up until the moment he died and he could say that the owner of those eyes was not weak.

He was never weak.

What he lacked in talent he made up for with his hard work, which was why the rest of his comrades didn't hesitate to give their lives to ensure his safety when it came down to it.

The dragon heard from the ice queen about how much he cried about the deaths of his comrades, but he had forgotten about how many times he had save hem, death traps, ambushes and many more. On occasions and situations where the rest of the group had given up, he and his eyes found the light.

When he recovered from the pain that came with him glimpsing into the future, the owner of the magic eyes finally revealed its location. The last obstacle they had to face to bring back peace to the world.

Its vessel.

They took the time to prepare and take it down and it was no easy battle. For hours the three of them faced the vessel but just one of it was more than enough match for the 3 of them.

Nothing they did seemed to deal significant damage to the vessel, and even when they did it regenerated and returned to its peak form in mere moments.

No one had the answer, not his system, and not the mysterious knowledge the ice queen had, but during the battle, his eyes glowed once again and they knew it was coming to an end. The one who called himself the weakest was going to save them again, and that he did. But at what cost?

The sword strike the one with the magic eyes performed was the most brilliant strike the dragon had seen in his life and he saw a miracle happen afterwards. He cut the connection between it and its vessel.

This allowed the dragon and the ice queen to use their strongest attacks to take down the vessel before placing the strongest seal in existence on the vessel. That should have been the end of it but they were wrong, sealing its vessel didn't stop its descent, they only delayed the inevitable.

Both the dragon and the ice queen looked towards the owner of the magic eyes for the answers but there was none, the possessor the magic eyes had put his everything into the sword strike, his life, experience, essence, past present and future in that strike and he succeeded in severing the link, but not even that could solve the problem.

The possessor died standing, his hands still gripping onto the sword and his body in the stance he used for his attack. His face carried the determination and resolve he bore to make that strike. If it wasn't for the light that had vanished from his eyes, he looked no different in death than he did when he was alive.

SYSTEM: THERE IS A WAY TO FIX EVERYTHING.

The system rang out once more but the dragon wasn't paying attention to that. The vessel had moved once more.
