Chapter 9 :
The So-Called Date
Asher's POV
I was in my office, working when my assistant, Miss. Carter walked in.
"Sir, Mr. Black called." She said.
"Brother?" I looked up from my file and asked.
"No Sir, your father."
"Okay, Miss. Carter. Please return back to your work now." I said dismissing her.
"Okay Sir." She said as she walked out of my office.
As soon as she left my office, I opened my drawer to take my phone out but the frame below my phone caught my eye, I took it out. I stared at her picture. Her hair, her eyes, those lips. Tears started to form in my eyes but I held them back.
Where are you, Selena?
I kept the frame back and took my phone out and called my father.
"Hello? " came his voice from the other side of the phone.
"Hello Dad. May I know the reason why you called? " I asked him in my business tone.
"AH! Yes Asher, I wanted you to meet someone." He replied.
"Okay and who is this someone?"
"Come to the address I have texted you by 10."
"Okay Dad." I said like the obedient son I am.
I hung up the call and glanced at the clock '9:30 A. M' . Let's go then. I walked out of my office to Miss. Caterina's office and went in. She wss typing furiously on her laptop.
"Miss. Caterina?" As soon as she heard my voice she instantly stood up. "Yes sir?" "Please reschedule all my meetings for the day. I have to go somewhere." I said to her to which she replied with an okay. I quickly got out of her office and went to the parking lot.
It took me almost a 30 minute drive to get there. I parked my car and walked out of it. I made my way into the cafe. I walked to table where I saw my family was seated.
"Hey Dad," I said.
All the heads on the table whipped towards me.But my eyes caught only one face whose eyes were as wide as the moon. My legs felt paralyzed on seeing that face again. The time froze it was just me and her in our own world.
"Asher....Ash....ASH!"
"Huh?" I said completely clueless.
"Come on, have a seat." Ana said. I sat beside Diana as that was the only seat available. As I sat down, I felt her get tensed. I felt her body stiffen.
Was she affected by my presence?
I dismissed the thought and asked Dad," Why did you call me here father?"
"Ash this is -------" I cut Amelia off.
"Diana Black, I know." I said in a casual tone.
"But how---------"
"She ran in front of my car." I again said cutting her off.
"WHAT!?" Ana yelled making everyone turn their heads towards us.
"Sorry."She apologized.
"It's not what you think Ana." She said to Ana." I agree that I ran in front of his car but I did that to save a kitten. Not because I wanted to die."
"OH!" Just then Jamie stood up. "Well guys, we should take our leave. You both talk."
"What?" I asked.
"Yes, Uncle Ash. I found you a bride." Dakota said.
"Huh?" Now I was beyond confused not knowing what to do or say.
"Asher be nice to her. This is a date. Get to know each other better. You'll be marrying her."
Immediately Diana stood up," No... No, I can't marry him."
Upon hearing this I should have been happy but I don't know why my heart contradicted.
" Please Diana." Dakota said in a soft pleading voice which made her sit back. Soon they all left. I looked at her. Her head was bent low.
"Diana."
"Yes." She was still looking down.
I also looked down wondering what caught her attention. But I found nothing. So I asked her ,"Diana , what are you looking at? I don't find anything interesting on the floor."
She smiled. Those lips, GOD! my subconsciousness stated.
SHUT UP! My heart only belongs to Selena. Even though she almost looks like Selena her eye colour is not the same as her.
You are a dumb ass. How can you see her eye colour in the dark? You can't unless you are an owl. My subconsciousness replied.
Her gaze shifted but she was still not looking at me. "Diana, do I have something on my face?" I asked her. She needs to look at me. I have to see her eye colour.
"Ummmmmm No." She stuttered
"Then I suggest stop looking here and there and look at me." I came out a bit rude as I was getting impatient and irritated. When she looked at me I felt my heartbeat stop. For the first time I looked at her eyes carefully.
Selena....
"Hello, Mr. Grey." That voice seemed familiar and I noticed it now. I felt my heart jump with happiness.
"Selena." I said
"I am sorry for what happened to you and her. But----------"
"Selena it is you, right?" I asked. She is sitting right in front of me. I can't believe it.
"I am not Selena. What happened to you, Mr. Grey?"
Yeah, what happened to me? There is no way she can be Selena. Not unless she has that birth mark. I came back to my senses.
"I am sorry for the inconvinience, Miss. Black. But we still have to marry." I said realizing I might have made her uncomfortable.
"Why do you-----------"
"For my family. For their happiness."
"OH! But-------"
"How much? "
"Pardon me, how dare you?" This time you looked me square in the eye. Her eyes held rage in them.
"Look please calm down. I don't want to attract people's attention."
"Mr. Grey, I ---------"
"Think about Dakota. Come on." Her fury started to vanish. After thinking for a while she finally spoke.
"Okay. I'll marry you but on one condition." Condition. Impressive.
"Sure Miss. Black." I said to her.
"We are only doing this for your family and I'll continue working here." I thought she would ask for something else but this was something very much simple.
"Deal." I said as I stood up and held out my hand. She stood up too, she looked at my held out hand for a while and then finally she held out her small hand, gripping my hand and saying.
"Deal."
