Chapter 3: My Promise To You
The ride back to Cain's home was very quiet and awkward, it felt as if the whole road was stretching out to forever. I was seated at the middle of two of Cain's assistants at the back of the van, the seat beside the driver was vacant, assuming it was supposed to be Cain's seat.
Not one man spoke a word, all of them wore the same tidy expensive suits while I was only in shackles. I thought I had to endure the pain of being naked in an air-conditioned van for the whole ride, good thing the man who carried me back then offered me his coat for me to wear, even though he looked like as if he's disgusted giving it to me.
As the ride went on longer, the city lights start to fade, as we went on a dark route covered by tall trees.
I started to feel nervous and anxious, I have no idea of what city I was from just then, and I'm being brought up to a very dark and scary place. The cold atmosphere inside the vehicle only made it worse for me, my body shivered in coldness and fear, "W-Where are you guys taking me?" I asked the assistants beside me. Thoughts about what could happen to me in here flooded my mind, am I going to be sold again? but in pieces?!
"What do you mean?" One of the assistants said, a slight grin formed on his lips, he was trying to hold in a chuckle. "Mr. Fargo's estate is not that easy for people to go. This is merely a shortcut to his house." He explains to me.
Somehow, one of them speaking to me about what I want to know gives me peace of mind. I still don't believe I trust these men fully, but I appreciate if they could just make me comprehend to what is currently happening.
"Yui." I heard a deep voice called, "Yui, wake up." I slowly opened my eyes, surprisingly, my body felt very comfortable. I somehow can't feel any body pain knowing the amount of scabs and bruises I have on my body, my wrists and ankles feel completely free, are the shackles removed?
"Where am I?" I asked, I was resting on a soft mattress, inside a very huge room with dim lights. The other side of the wall was in glass and had a big balcony over it, the city lights can be seen over the sea of trees outside. It was a very pleasant view.
"I had my assistants move you here so you can rest easy seeing the stars at the sky, but you were sleeping for too long." I was surprised seeing Cain beside me, his fingers playing with my hair and his eyes gazing towards me with care. "I-I'm sorry." I didn't know what I was apologizing for, is it because I slept for too long?
"Don't be." His voice was deep, but his tone was very warm and caring. He sounds so sweet, it was unbelievable for me. As if he was a different person back then at the auction.
"I'm the one who should be apologizing." He said, "I had to say you need to be in a cage and a gag. That really isn't like me. I'm sorry."
"I.. don't really understand?" I asked, I was very confused about his apology.
"You're my first purchase off of them. I had to have you, Yui, but I can't raise any assumptions from them. So I made it seem like I bought you for my own pleasure." He tried to explain, but this just gave me even more questions.
"Why did you buy me? And for five million? Why me?" I asked him, his eyes were already starting to look worried, while I was still dumbfounded.
"Your eyes are from a significant bloodline, Yui." He said, gently placing his hands on my cheeks, "I have to protect you."
My memories of my past seemed patchy, the only thing I knew is that I grew up in enormous trauma and abuse, the reason for the scabs and wounds around my body, and how I barely managed to survive for this long.
"If you seem to have forgotten everything in the past, I would make it my responsibility to do everything in my power to make you remember it all again. That's my promise to you, Yui."
