Chapter 2: He survived?

They finished crossing through the alley. It didn't take much long. They thought it would be hard to support him. Cara sighs in relief as she saw that they had reach the familiar street. The street was fully deserted. Just like Hannah said this was the shortest route. The hour hand in their wrist watches reached 1.

Their house is not much far from here. But the problem was the man. It looked like he couldn't hold much longer. His eyes were drooping. And he was not able to control his footing. Even though there were two girls helping him. But the pain in his abdomen was increasing ten fold. He was not aware of his surroundings. He was even losing focus of his mind. He just know that somebody was helping him.

As he take one step forward the pain in his abdomen would increase. He tries to keep a poker face but fails miserably. His breathing was becoming harsh minute by minute.

At every pain the man was enduring, Cara's heart would ache more and more.

No, I have to stay strong at time like this. I cannot deflate now. Cara thought.

She let go of her thought that he might not survive and didn't let her hope get too high too. She let go of every thought she had and concentrated on one thing. That is to reach their house as fast as they can.

While holding him she try to look for his pulse. His pulse was slow, really slow.

'Hannah, we must hurry up. His pulse is becoming slower by minute' Cara said with broken down expression.

They increase their pace a little. And took all of his weight on themselves not letting him waste a little energy he has left. The frown was etched on their faces. After some long torturous minutes they finally reached their house. In reality it's only been 5 minutes.

Cara looked at the door which would lead them inside their house, longingly. She felt like she had reached a safe place after a long time. She looked at the man and called him quietly.

'Hey. Stay awake. Just a little more. Then you'll be alright. Okay?' she reassures him.

He couldn't hear her clearly but still he slightly nods at her.

They looked at the 3 steps which they need to climb to go inside. They slowly climbed it. Climbing the steps never felt this difficult to them. Cara quickly removed the house key from her small hand bag and opens the lock.

They quickly took him to the closest room which happens to be a living room. They layed him on the couch and both of them let out a huge breath. Hannah started feeling nauseous again when her eyes accidentally went towards the wound.

The wound was brutal. How can anybody hurt someone like that. He had loss many blood. His survival rate is thin. Without wasting a single minute Cara rushed to bring every supplies that she deemed needed. She must first deal with the vital wound.

Cara instructed Hannah to do some small works while she was doing a heavy one. Cara had medical knowledge and know how to nurse the wound. Hannah doesn't. So Cara send her off saying that she can take care of this on her own. Then she remembered that she needs some medicine for him.

'Hannah' she shouted.

Hannah came back running. 'What's the matter'

'You must quickly go to medical shop. I need some meds' Cara quickly rights down the names on paper and give it to Hannah. Hannah rushed off to do her task.

While at one place Cara is hastily nursing the wound. While at another Hannah is running to reach the medical shop.

Morning arrived. Even after the clock turned 10 nobody gave a sign of waking up. Cara was still asleep in her room tired from taking care of that man whole night.

Hannah had just woke up who had slept earlier than Cara. The man was on couch where they had layed him down last night. He was still unconscious.

After sometime Hannah woke Cara up and after they both had their breakfast. Cara went to check up on the man. His eyes was still close.

His thick black lashes was now clear in the day light. His face was so smooth and clear except a small fresh scar on his cheek. It looked like a blade grazed his cheek. She had changed him into a clean shirt last night .

Hannah's boyfriend often comes to their house. So some of his clothes were there. Cara asked Hannah to give one of his shirt last night. This person before her was so handsome. Not just normal handsome like if we see a person who is good looking we say 'Wow. He's so handsome'.

No! Not that kind of handsome.

He was hot. Freaking hot. Anybody who'll see him will throw themselves at him. Cara knows that he being hurt is not a normal accident. And that he might not be a common person. And it didn't look like a drunken fight.

She checked his pulse quickly to clear her doubt whether he's dead or he managed to survive. Her lips curled up. Her heart flooded with overwhelming happiness. She was about to get up to tell Hannah about it. But she stops when his amber eyes suddenly opens up. His eyes struck her again.

That's how his eyes were! His eyes would awestruck anybody. Everybody would drown in it. His dark hair and dark lashes totally bring out the amber in his eyes.

She holds her breath unknowingly. He jolted upright but stopped midway when his abdomen screamed in pain. He clutches it in pain and fell back down. For a second his mind went blank. He couldn't remember where he was and why he was here. Then he remembered that he was fighting. His body went on instant alert. He felt the presence beside him so he turned towards Cara with hard look.

'Who are you?' he asked with a cold voice. 'Why am I here?'

'Hey, calm down! You are safe here' she said softly trying to reassure him. She slowly stood up from her position when she felt she was too close to him. His gaze didn't left hers.

He was seeing a girl with light brown hair almost golden color. Her eyes captivated him just as his did to hers. Her eyes were big and blue. A bright captivating blue. Her skin, fair and smooth. Her face... It looked so innocent. Like it hadn't been exposed to any harsh reality of life. But he knows. He knows that a book can't be judged by it's cover.

He felt weird emotion rise in him. Which was foreign to him. He didn't like it. He doesn't like when somebody has a control over his emotions.

But Cara couldn't see the change in his emotion, nobody would. She was seeing the two cold eyes which was holding her captive. He lifted his neck, looked down and lifted his shirt revealing his stomach which was now stitched.

He looked at it for a while. All his memories from last night rushed back to him. His eyes turned dark at the thought. He let down his shirt covering his stomach again. And returned his gaze towards Cara without softening his gaze. He couldn't believe he was alive even after losing so much blood. When they found him yesterday he had been there for much longer.

'Why did you save me?' he asked coldly. Like it was her who made a mistake. He didn't trust her. He had trust issues. He didn't believe that she would save him without any ulterior motive.

Cara was speechless. The question was simple but the tone he used was totally wrong. Cara's expression which was soft so far turned blank. She looked at him with blank expression. And gathered her thought to speak.

'I saved you, because any person who has humanity would. I saved you not because of you BUT for myself. I didn't want myself to be drown in guilt. If i wouldn't have saved you yesterday then every time i think about that day would make me feel guilty. I wouldn't be able to look at myself for leaving a person to die just like that' Cara said blankly looking straight in his eyes not even caring how much her words would hurt the person before her. Cara wasn't a person who would get angry easily. But his words but her angry to the core. She turned all her anger into a blank face.

If he was going to play a poker face then be it. I will give him the same.

The man who's emotion was never able to be played. Who have been slayed by the words more brutal than the Cara's. He felt a tinge of hurt rise in his chest. Which made him more angry on her. Twice in a row she made him feel something. No, nobody can control my emotions, he thought harshly reminding himself.

He averted her gaze and closed his eyes, the pain in his abdomen waring him off. Cara took a deep breath to calm herself down.

'Will you not say who you u are?' Cara asked the softness in her tone returning. He opens his eyes and looks at her for a second without replying.

'You go first' he says the harshness in his voice decreasing. Cara agrees and thrust her hand forward giving a small smile.

'Cara Winston'

'Ian' he says his tone a little gentle and grasp her hand in slow pace making a chill run down her spine.

'Ian....?' she trailed off raising her eyebrows questioning for his full name.
