Chapter 42: Nighttime Terrors

Pamela:

I rub a beautiful rose, its petals feeling lighter than a feather. Lending down, I smell its lovely fragrance. As I smell it, I rub its stem and feel a sharp thorn. Pulling back, I smile and look around my green room.

All over, there are dozens and dozens of exotic plants from all over, their roots and leaves overflowing and falling to the floor.

"A meconopsis grandis," I say, admiring the lust, blue petals. "And a Himalayan poppy. So simple yet still so magnificent."

I spot a lust flower nearby and go over to it. It's blooming, it's bright-red petal opening.

"That man is the key to everything," I say to the lust flower. "He is the one that will help us defeat Superman and bring back the green. With his plan and with what I heard from Cold, I believe we can finally come out of hiding. No more swamp life for us. Once the reign of Superman and his One Earth Government is over, we will turn our attention to him and make him our. He may be immune to my pheromones, but I will find his weakness, and once I do."

Leonard:

I take off my goggles and toss them over to the nightstand beside my bed. Like a rock, I then fall over onto the bed. Staring at the ceiling, my mind starts to go back to my sister.

"This is it, Lisa," I say, bringing my close fist. "This is it. This is the opportunity I have been waiting for. With the fucker's help, I can finally take my revenge on that bitch. Wonder Woman, you will regret ever killing my sister. I will freeze you and then break you into millions of pieces. All I need to do is just play a little longer. Shouldn't be too hard."

Lending up a little, I look around my bed. Certainly, it's an improvement from the apartment when the guy found me. Besides the bed and the nightstand, there's also a desk with a chair, some drawers filled with who knows what, and some targets not too far away. My head falling back down, I picture myself freezing Wonder Woman's head.

"I can't wait."

Barry:

I open one of the many drawers on the desk, I pull out what looks like a granola bar wrapped in clear plastic. Without even so much as a second thought, I toss the granola bar back and slam the drawer close.

Walking over to the door, I grab the handle and turn it.

"Okay, it's not locked. So I'm not trapped in here."

I swing the door right and left a few times before closing it completely. Feeling drain, I slump over to the bed where I fall onto it.

"We have to leave," I say, rubbing my eyes. "Me. Oliver. Dinah. Hal. Selina. Harleen. We all have to get the hell out of here. We can't stay here. Not with them."

Images of the fucking man and Scarecrow run through my head.

"Tomorrow, we are leaving. I don't care if I have to pick everyone up and run them out of here myself."

Supergirl:

Despite being wrapped in a comfortable blanket, I still couldn't sleep. I toss and turn all over but no matter what, I just couldn't fall asleep. Eventually, I give up and push the blanket off of me. Sitting up, I rest my head on my hands and think back to everything that happens.

I was trapped in that cell on Styker's Island for three months after Bruce and I failed to defeat Diana and Kal, my own cousin. In those three months, I didn't want to but I could still hear them. I could hear the soldiers talked about how fast they were taking over; cities after cities were falling under "the protection of the One Earth Government".

I remember how many times I was told if I join them, if I became a regime, I could be let out. Black Adam, Diana, and even Kal promised it. Everything time one of them would ask, it would take all my willpower to say no. More than once, I wanted to say yes. Yes to being let out. Yes to being free. More than everything, all I wanted was everything to just stop.

"Uncle," I cried, covering my mouth. "Aunt. Mom. Dad. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. You sent me here to protect Kal, and I couldn't do it. I should have died with you."

"I wouldn't go that far," a voice says, startling me and my head going up.

There, standing in front of my cell is The.

"Don't worry," he starts, "I'm here to help."

And help The did. He saved me, rescued Barry, brought together the Insurgency, and did so more in the last than two days.

"Your entire strategy relies solely on your powers," The once said. "But if all you have is super-strength, then all you will do is punch really hard. You need to learn how to fight, not just punch."

Memories of watching The fights then run through my mind. The way he punches and kicks, dodges and ducks, jumps and rolls.

"Maybe I should learn how to fight," I thought to myself, looking at my closed fist. "Not just punch."

As I think more and more of The, something else he said creeps into my head.

"I like you," he said. Feelings of cold and hot all get tangle in my chest, and I clutch it.

"Don't swear," The said, putting his hand on Jason's head. "Also, what? Kara isn't your friend? Oh, shame on you. Shame, shame, shame on you."

Somehow, I laugh at that last memory. I take one last breath before resting my head against the pillow.

The:

"Thanks for this Anthony," I say, the last of the data being transfer to my room's computer.

"You're welcome," Anthony replies, "But again. Sorry, we couldn't get the full amount. This is only about 40 percent of it."

"I'll make it work. Hey, listen, explain to me again what the heck happened."

"Nightwing electrocuted Cold and apparently, that made her go nuts and tried to destroy the building. According to what I picked up from the One Earth Government, Superman is not too happy."

"Oh well, that's one more person who isn't too happy with me. Adding Superman, that's about a trillion and one people. Hmm."

"So now what? Without all the information, you won't know the whole layout of the manufacturing plants, and any extra secrets about the betas Superman may be hiding."

"Again Anthony, I just have to make it work. I worked with less."

Despite Anthony's struggle, I can still hear him yawn.

"Anthony, it's late. I want you to go to sleep."

"I'm fine," Anthony says, another yawn escaping.

"No, I'm fine. You go to sleep."

I wish Anthony a pleasure rest before ending the call. With the stolen data now on my computer, I bring up a bunch of old files and begin to cross-reference. Analyzing and studying everything, studying and reading every single line of texts, I start to program something into my cell phone.

While programming, the alarm goes off.

"4:30," my cell phone says.

"Time to go," I say, turning off my computer. "I have a lot of mouths to feed."

I get up from my desk and turn around to leave. However, before I can step out of my room, I remember something important.

"Shoot," I say, slapping myself in the head. "I can't forget them."

Quickly, I walk over to my computer and turn it back on. As soon as I can see my desktop, I click on an icon and see the surveillance feeds I hid in both Iris' house and Mr. Lance's apartment.

I still owe all of you, the readers, a chapter or two for my long absence. Please enjoy this second chapter and by chance, if you do, please do leave a comment. I like knowing what you think of the story so far. Can I make "The" any more strange and weird?
