Chapter 47: A Super Offer

Supergirl:

I couldn't believe my own eyes. I couldn't believe what it is I'm seeing. I knew Kal had changed but I didn't think he would go this far.

"Iris," Barry yells, stepping forward but as he did, Sinestro shrinks the bubble Iris is trapped in. Now, on her knees, she slams her hands against the bubble.

"No! Please, don't hurt her!"

"Kal," I scream, looking at my cousin. "Stop him! Please!"

My cousin looking back at me turns to face Sinestro. Nodding his head, Sinestro widen the bubble so Iris could stand back up.

The tension easing a little, we all look at each other as we try to figure out what to do next.

"We can't fight," I think, "Because if we do, Sinestro could hurt Iris, and I can't let that happen. But we can't escape either. We're surrounded from all sides."

One Earth soldiers are covering all the exits; the exit pipes, the hidden doorway used before, even breaking through the ceiling isn't an option. Superman blew a hole in it and now there are soldiers aiming down at us.

Besides the soldiers and Superman, there are also regimes everywhere. Besides Sinestro, I can see Hawkgirl and Black Adam floating nearby. Killer Frost, Cyborg, and Nightwing are on the ground and they look more than ready for a fight. Kal-El brought everyone here.

"There is no way out of here," he says, looking down at us. "Surrender now. All of you."

"No way," Oliver replies, pulling back on his bowstring. Aiming an arrow right at Sinestro, Barry grabs his bow and stops him.

"Oliver," Barry cries, struggling to take Oliver's bow away. "Please. Don't."

The tears in Barry's eyes shining bright, Oliver stops and lets Barry have his bow. Tossing it to the ground, Barry then turns to Kal-El. However, as he turns his back, Killer Frost hits and freezes Oliver.

Screaming as ice traps his body, Dinah and Selina rush to him.

"Hey," Dinah says, turning to Killer Frost as she tries to break the ice.

"Can't let that happen again," Killer Frost says, smiling and letting white mist pour from her hands. "In fact, if any one of you moves, either I or any of them will shoot you."

"Killer Frost," Kal-El says, his voice sounding like thunder as it echoes. "Enough."

Killer Frost stepping back into the crowd of soldiers, Kal returns his attention to us.

"Wait a minute," he says, counting us one by one. "Where's the man? He's not here. Where is he?"

"We left him," Barry answers. "Walked away and left him and his gangs of criminals behind."

"No," Kal says, dropping down and walking right up to Barry. "No. No. No. No!"

Without warning whatsoever, Kal-El grabs Barry by his neck and lifts him.

"No! You're lying! Where is the man? Where is he?"

"I don't know," Barry groans in between breaths. His feet shake as Kal-El raises him higher into the air, I couldn't do it anymore. Using my super speed, I charge toward Kal-El and try to help but before I could reach him, a bolt of lightning knocks me to the floor.

"Pathetic girl," Black Adams says, descending toward me. "We never should have rescued you."

"Kara," Harleen screams, running to help me up. Despite the lightning burns on me, I'm still focusing on Barry.

"I won't ask again," Kal-El says, lowering Barry so he's face-to-face with him. "Where is the man? Who is he? Where did he come from?"

"I don't know," Barry groans, struggling the whole time. "None of us know. He never told us anything."

"He's telling the truth," I say, Kal-El facing me now. "He never told us anything about himself. He never once told us what his name is. All he told us is to call him 'The Man'."

"The Man? Really?"

"Yes. The Man. First name The, last name Man. That's all."

Kal-El grinds his teeth together before finally letting go of Barry. Barry drops to the ground, gasping for air as he holds his throat.

"Barry," Selina cries, helping him up.

"That can't be all," Kal-El says. "That can't be all. Wait. No, no, wait. Where did he take you all?"

"I don't know," I answer, thanking Harleen before standing up on my own. "I don't know. He took us to his hidden base but he wouldn't even tell us where that is. We have no clue where it is or how to even get back. Only he does."

Kal-El turning away yells into the sky and shakes not only the base itself but also everyone in it. Lowering his head when he is finished, he turns back to Barry.

"Barry," he starts, "Help me find this man, and I will let Iris go."

"What," we all say.

"Help me find this man," Kal-El says again, "I will let Iris go."

With a wave of his hand, Sinestro slowly descends to the floor, bringing Iris along. The second the bubble touches the ground, it bursts and Iris drops to the ground. Landing on her hands and knees, she cries as she looks up at us.

"Deal," Barry screams, looking at Kal-El and then back at us.

"Flash," I say before Barry cuts me off.

"No," he says, swiping the air with his arms. "No. It's a done deal, Kara. I don't care about him or any of them. I care about Iris, and I would do anything for her. Especially if it means giving up that son of a bitch. I mean, come on. He kidnapped us and forced us to do his dirty work. And all without telling us his name. What kind of man does that? No Kara. I would trade his life for Iris's anything, and there is nothing any of you can say that will make me change my mind."

"Flash," we all whisper as we watch Barry walk up to Kal-El.

"You have a deal," he starts, before walking past Kal-El to Iris.

"Iris," he cries as Iris pulls herself up.

"Barry," she cries back, tears forming in her eyes. Together, they hold up their hands.

"I miss you so much," Barry says.

"I miss you too," Iris replies.

Only inches from putting their hands together, a gunshot echo throughout the base before Iris's head burst. We all watch in slow motion as Iris steps back before someone fires again and again. All three shots hit Iris, she falls back onto the floor.

"What," I say, turning around to see who it was that fire. There, standing behind Oliver, and Selina, and Harleen, and Professor Stein, and Jason, and Jaime is The Man. He is looking down the top of a shotgun, the end of the barrel smoking.

"Your welcome," he says, reloading his gun as a shell drops out from it. "Flash, you especially owe me big time."
