Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The Feeling of Being Watched

I have a 98 year old immortal man living in my apartment. At this rate, I can only imagine it'll be a few more weeks until I go insane.

"Hey, uhhh.... you never told me your name." Well, speak of the devil.

I didn't bother turning around, I already knew Kanoe was behind me so I just kept scrubbing the dishes.

"Miyazaki Hikaru, now go back to bed. It's not healthy to stay up late."

"But... you're still up. Shouldn't you go to bed as well?"

"I have chores, these dishes need to be done and I still have to get the laundry out of the dryer."

"Alright, oyasuminasai."

"Oyasumi."

I heard the door close behind me and quickly finished the dishes, grabbing the laundry basket on the way out the door.

It's been a few days since I took Kanoe in, and ever since this evening I've been getting the feeling I'm being watched. I know it's probably just another superstition of mine, but it's been getting increasingly worse each hour.

I stepped into the empty elevator and pressed the button for the ground floor. The doors shut and I began to get that same feeling that I wasn't alone, like someone was watching my every move. By the time the doors opened again, I was hurrying to the laundry room. The quicker I get this done, the faster I can get back to the safety of the apartment.

I opened the dryer, took out a large mound of my clothes, and stuffed them in the basket.

The door shut with a slam, I could feel the cold sweat beading on my forehead as I put down the laundry and slid down the door. This had reached the point of paranoia.

Now, I barely even felt safe in my own home. But how should I approach this? Should I tell Kanoe about this or keep it to myself? I'd rather die than bother someone else with my problems, but if I keep choking down this fear it might drive me into madness. And that's even worse than death.

"Miyazaki?"

My eyes widened as Kanoe came into view. Sh*t, he's gonna know something's wrong and I'll have to tell him. Choose Hikaru, either lie or tell him the truth.

"You look like you've seen a ghost, are you alright?"

"Mhm, I'm fine. It's just one of the neighbors keeps scaring me, It's almost like she comes out of nowhere."

I lied. If I hadn't, he'd probably get worried as well and then he'd have even more problems. As if he doesn't have enough already.

"Okay... just tell me if something bothers you, alright?"

"Alright."

I ran a hand through my short, sandy blonde hair. Well sh*t, now I feel bad for lying to him. Gomenasai, Kanoe-San, I'll tell you about this later I promise.

"I'll fold your laundry in the morning, just get some rest. You look like you could drop dead at any second." He bent down and offered his hand, I took it and let him help me off the floor.

"Thanks, Kanoe."

"No problem."

I did as he asked and went to bed, it wasn't easy but having another person in the room made it seem like I wasn't defenseless if someone came into the apartment.

However, even in sleep I had that same feeling. It settled in the bottom of my stomach like a rock, and I couldn't seem to get rid of it. It plagued my dreams for the rest of the night, and no matter where I ran to it was always there.

The light from the window filtered down onto my face, making me stir in my bed. I felt awful, but I needed to get up just incase I got called in for work.

I opened my eyes and let out a yawn, rolling over onto my right shoulder. I was met with a freckled face the second I opened my eyes again.

The hell is he doing in my bed? I looked down, his arms were loosely wrapped around my torso. What the actual f*ck?

I carefully took his arms out from around my waist and sat up, giving him another quick glance before I got off the bed. I have to admit, he was kinda cute while sleeping but not in a weird way. Like how you'd comment on how cute a sleeping kitten was.

I made my way to the kitchen, putting fresh coffee grounds and water into the coffee maker before turning it on. I made sure to add extra just in case Kanoe wanted some.

Something vibrated in my back pocket, I pulled out my phone to see the words 'Kaito-San' flashing across the screen. I pressed accept and held the phone to my ear.

"Hello?"

"Hikaru, we've got another homicide case that needs your attention. You should probably get over here ASAP, it looks really bad."

"I'll be over in 10."

The call ended abruptly, Kaito probably hung up. It wouldn't really surprise me, he never likes to talk to anyone unless he has to.

"I heard voices, did you get called in for work?" Kanoe walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table, waiting for a reply.

"Before I answer that, you have to answer my question first. Is there a particular reason I found you asleep in my bed?" He looked up at me with a strange expression, embarrassment maybe?

"Uhh, yeah. You were tossing and turning in your sleep to the point of annoyance, so I had to restrain you."

"R-restrain me?"

"Yeah."

Oh god, that sounded wrong in all sorts of ways. Bad subconscious, bad!

"Yes, that was Kaito-San. He's one of my colleagues at work and there's been another homicide, so I'm gonna check it out."

"What are you gonna do about me?"

"Huh?" I shot him a look of confusion.

"I mean my body, you were supposed to lock up a few days ago and since I came back to life my body will be missing. What are you gonna do about it when they realize it's gone?"

"..... OH SH*T."
