Chapter 8: Denial & Disbelief

Author's Note

Hello dear readers, I just wanted to inform you, yes, I know this part of the book seems really boring, but it is supposed to be this way, read to the end of this chapter, and the end of this story, as the plot gets interesting, especially at the end of this roller coaster of a book.

--------------------- Time Skip to the Evening (When Ladybug and Cat Noir patrols) -----------------------

Ladybug's POV

So, I've decided, I was going to tell Chat Noir as Marinette, not Ladybug. But of course, there was no reason for Chat Noir to visit Marinette, so I had to ask him to visit me via my alter ego.

I swung my yo-yo, swinging through the beautiful city. It was already quite late, but of course, it was a strategic plan, as most akumas either happened to occur during the morning and evenings, and the evening was the best time to hang out with Chat Noir and talk.

Chat Noir was already waiting for me at our usual meeting spot, humming a song while staring at the Paris skyline, he didn't seem to notice me, until I approached him from behind.

"Good evening bugaboo, ready for patrol?" He asked.

I grinned. "Yup, let's go, kitty!"

I swung my yo-yo once again, getting a head start, but hearing Chat Noir sigh dreamily, "I love when she calls me that."

I stopped. I just remembered what I had to tell him.

"Kitty?" I asked.

"Yes?" He answered.

"I forgot to tell you, Marinette asked me to tell you that she needed to see you to tell you something." I rambled.

"Wait. M'Lady, how was Marinette able to communicate with you?" Chat Noir asked, eyes filled with curiosity.

I tensed. I didn't answer. I racked my brain for a reason. Any reason.

"I guess me and Marinette are friends?" I said, asking him more than answering the question.

"Oh." Chat Noir said. He seemed suspicious of me. But he didn't bring up the topic again.

"Ok, let's stop the chit-chat, let's start patrol." I chided.

-------------------------------------Time Skip to when Patrol Ends--------------------------------------------------

Chat Noir's POV

Patrol ended, and I barely remembered that I had to visit Marinette.

And just as expected, she was already waiting for me.

I knocked on her trapdoor, and it opened, showing a smiling Marinette.

"Hey Chat, good to see you again." Marinette greeted.

"Good evening, Marinette. Ladybug said you needed to talk about something." I said.

Marinette's face darkened, her smile disappeared.

"Yes, but do you want hot chocolate? I mean you came all this way, it would be rude to not serve you anything or offer you anything either." Marinette asked.

My eyes lit up.

"Yes please!" I answered. I loved hot chocolate.

"Ok, wait, I'll go make some downstairs." Marinette said, as she made her way down the stairs, she took a while to make the hot chocolate, and I sat down on her chaise while waiting. Glancing around her room, I noticed a poster of...me. Well not Chat Noir, but a poster of Adrien. I always assumed Marinette had posters of me in her room because she just loved fashion, and I was Adrien Agreste, I was a model. But thinking about it now, it was quite weird that her poster had hearts drawn all over it.

"I'm back. And I brought the hot chocolate." Marinette announced, breaking my train of thoughts.

She passed me a cup of hot chocolate, and seeing as I hadn't eaten anything since lunch because of me being a model and all.

I drank the hot chocolate quickly, I was starving, I finished it quite fast, but then Marinette looked at me, her face looked, quite serious while she said, "Chat, about the thing I wanted to talk to you about."

"Yes?" I asked, nodding encouragingly.

"It's about my soulmate." She whispered. "I-I-Chat Noir?"

I only looked at her, wondering what she was about to say next.

"I-It's you." She finally said.

My eyes widened in shock, I stared at her with shock and a little bit of disbelief. I finally understood, my mark, it represented Marinette, all this time, my soulmate was always her.

I asked her, "Can I see your soulmate mark?"

Marinette probably already knew I was going to ask that, and she lifted the left sleeve of her shirt, and on her left shoulder blade, there it was, a black and green CN.

I suddenly realized, she was protecting me, she even had to deal with Chloe's bullying because both she and me would be in danger if Hawkmoth found out. She had to lie because of me, and when I was thinking, one word made a way into my mind. Ladybug. Oh. My. God. I was never ending up with Ladybug. She was meant to be with someone else. I couldn't believe it.

I quickly said, "Umm Marinette, I have to go."

I ignored Marinette and ran away, I leapt on the roofs of Paris. Denial and disbelief. Those were the two words that I felt.

I also remembered how rudely I treated Marinette, when I just ran away from her, she was my soulmate, and I still couldn't accept the fact that me and M'Lady wasn't soulmates.

We weren't soulmates.

We both had different soulmates.

Imagining her with another guy made my blood boil, it also made me want to rip him from limb to limb.

And Marinette, she wasn't a horrible person, she just wasn't the person I imagined to end up with. In front of Adrien, she was always quite shy, but when I was Chat Noir, Marinette seemed more comfortable around me. But, while thinking all of this, I missed one thing.

Oh God, what was Marinette thinking about all this?
