Chapter 2: chapter 2

She had taken the key, looked into the chest out of curiosity

and found the seal skin there.

She could not resist the temptation,

bade farewell to her children, put on the skin and plunged into the sea.....

It tried to eat me!

My dog tried to eat me!

I ran home and burst into the cottage where mama sat by the fire sowing up one of my dresses.

"Mama! Mama! The dog tried to eat me! It tried to eat me!" I cried as I held my injured arm.

Mama hopped up, ran to me and got down on her knees in front of me "what!? Oh goddess! Ada What happen?! Are you ok?!" she grabbed my shoulders and held me as I cried.

At three and ten id been taught to never cry, the clan Morgan was a clan of tough warrior women and every girl learned to hold in their pain and never cry, it was a sign of weakness. The Morgan's were never weak, but at that moment I couldn't stop the tears from running down my face.

"I scratched my arm! I fell into a thorn bush when me and cinder where sparing when I got out my arm was cut up, then Blair came to give me kisses, licked my arm and suddenly his eyes turned red and he lunged for my arm and tried to eat me!" I cried as mama went to the water bucket, lifted a wet cloth from it and came to me to put it on my arm.

The cold water felt good against my red, scratched up arm "where was cinder? Did she not help you?" mama asked.

"yes she was the one that pulled him off me and yelled for me to run! She was going to kill it! She told me to run! Why did it want to eat me!?" i said as I started to cough from the crying.

"Settle down my flower. You are a warrior. Now warriors don't cry. I told you never to let anything near your blood that it was dangerous. Why didn't you lesson?" she said with a sharpness in her voice.

She got up went to get the healing basket that held the wraps. She knelt down and began to wrap my arm up.

I sniffled "I'm sorry! I forgot! That was a few summers ago, I forgot! My blood did that to him?" I knew I was a Cureblood . A Folklore fairy creature thought to have died out a century ago, with the ability to cure any disease with its blood but with a dangerous price, the drinker would get blood crazed, then would crave more and more blood till the host died or the host killed the very person it was trying to save. The last Cureblood was said to have been drained dry trying to save her lover who ended up killing her for all her blood, then went mad when he realized what he had done. I'm the last one, or so my mama told me.

I heard the thunder of someone running into the cottage. Cinder my older sister by two summers came running in " mama, is she ok?" she said out of breath.

Mama looked at her with a glare "cinder, why didn't you stop it from licking her?"

Cinder rolled her eyes "I looked away for a minute to try to find something to wrap up her arm when.. it just went mad! Its eye turned red. It growled and just attacked. I had to hold it back from following her. It didn't even seem interested in fighting me it was just stuck on her. I had to put my blade through it just to stop it and even then it just tried to crawl to her as it died. It was like it was possessed" she said and gave me a scowl.

Mama grabbed my shoulders, forcing me to look at her "Ada you know what you are and you can't forget it ever. You must keep yourself safe."

I nodded in shame " yes mama."

"you empty headed ninny, you have to learn to act like a warrior. You should have killed it yourself" cinder said she said as she pulled out her blade caked in blood and whipped it off with one of the cleaning clothes.

I glared at her " be silent I wasn't expecting Blair to attack me! I loved him!" I yelled.

" you should be ready for anything at all times in battle" cinder shot back, putting her blade down , and her hands going to her hips.

"Cinder that's enough, is that anyway to talk to your sister" mama said holding me close to her breast.

The tears started to break through again " I didn't mean to make it go mad! I didn't want it to die! you should have let it kill me!" I yelled and ran out the door towards the forest.

I sat on a downed tree and stared at my poor dead Blair, my friend. As tears ran down my cheeks I heard someone coming up behind me...…

(wakes up)

Pain. Did I pass out?

Holy goddess..… what happen?.. Why do I hurt so bad?

Ada winced as she woke, at the throbbing pain. Her gut seemed to spasm as she felt herself about to hurl but she held it in not wanting to make the pain worse. All at once she recalled the escape, the chase the men kicking her as she fought to get to her sister cinder, then a dream of her mother with cinder, at home, safe, to bad homes not the same anymore.

Pain.

Those sick bastards must have kicked a hole through my gut.

As she tried to move her body her head began to spin, she just wanted to sink back into the darkness but she knew she couldn't "come on you're a warrior, act like one!" she yelled in her mind.

Ada realized she was being carried; we must be close to the castle if he's not on horseback. She felt the chill of the night air cutting through her face, thankfully her captor held her close to his hard chest so his warmth would keep her body warm.

She inhaled and the sweet scent of the loch met her, he didn't smell anything like the men who had kidnapped her and her sister, they smelled of ale and dirt.

Strange.

The man shifted her a bit to hold her closer as the wind blew cold air against them, the movement jarring her stomach causing a sharp pain to shoot through her.

"Be careful brute, I'm in enough pain" she wanted to say but held her tongue.

He felt like a giant, his chest wide and hard with muscle. He wouldn't be easy to bring down being twice her size, but she had to get away and get to cinder, she had failed to protect her and had to find her.

With a wince I slowly cracked my eyes open.

I felt my eyes grow big, and swallowed a scream. I'm being carried by a demon!

Am I dead and being carried into hell?

He was handsome enough to be one of hells fallen angels, then again iv herd from the cleric the devil was one of heavens most beautiful angels, maybe he is the devil, he could tempt a nun to sin.

Even in the night, with only the moons raises to light him she could make out his features.

He had a fierce profile. A strong jaw, covered mostly with a dark beard, his high cheek bones and prominent nose seemed sculpted to mimic a vicking god, well a dark version. His raven black hair hung long and waved like the sea down to a little past his shoulders, his slightly pointed ears made her wonder if maybe he was a dark fairy. His most eye catcher trait was the huge cursed mark that covered almost all of the left side of his face.

The mark seemed to be fire burned deep into his skin, the black coloring made it stand out like a light in the dark, it seemed to scream cursed soul beware. The mark was the form of a witch's knot, the mark most witches used to cast spells and charms but this one was different, within the circle background there was the very faint shape of some short of water creature caged within the mark.

What kind of demon was he?

Who cursed him?

Who cares about what kind he is all I need to worry about is how quick I need to move to get away and out of his arms.

Ada suddenly noticed they were no longer moving, her eyes shot to his and she was suddenly drowning in a pool of light blue eyes. They seemed to consume her, her chest felt tight like she was being swallowed whole.

He's a demon! Don't look into his eyes or he will gain control of her soul, be quick to hit and run.

She lifted her a little higher to glare at him.

"Release… me... now" she said as she freed her arm from his chest.

"Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you. Your injur…."

Before he could finish Ada pulled back her hand and hit him as hard as she could in the nose, with the palm of her hand causing him to drop her to the cold, hard forest floor.

Ada would have cried out in pain from the fall but had hit the floor so hard she lost her breath and was trying to gasp for air.

"You little chit! Why did you do that!?" he growled from behind the hand covering his bleeding nose.

Ada gasped deep as her breath returned to her she rolled to her side feeling the leaves and twigs poking her side, as pain stabbed her all over.

"Sorry demon, I can't go to hell tonight I have a mission to accomplish, so find some other poor injured soul."

"Hell?" his head crooked sideways "I'm not taking you to hell lass. I was taking you to our healer. You were kicked very hard and I don't know if you have in the body damage" he said as he whipped the blood on his sleeve.

She put her hand on the ground, the other on her stomach and pushed her body to sit up then arched a brow at the man "oh really? A cursed demon interested in helping strangers in the highlands at night? Nice try but I'm not that lose in the head."

I have to get away from him.

Goddess! My insides are going to fall out; I need to find somewhere to heal without this demon knowing. She knew if she could just get away she could take a sip of her blood, shed heal but then he would know her secret.

She sow the demon straighten and hold up his hands in a surrender jester but his face featured a angry scowl "please, I just want to help you woman! My name is Kalum of Clan Lore. I may be a demon but even so its not my way hurt a woman. Your badly hurt let me get you to our clans healer."

She had herd of the lore clan from her sister and passing travelers. They were a feared clan of monsters, fiend's and whatever demons they could find. She was use to mythical creatures since she was part of the Morrigan clan, a clan made of mostly silkies with a few humans, fairy's and changelings mostly creatures that were abused or in need, but Lore creatures were known to be blood thirsty monsters that lured humans to the deaths with mind games and tricks, especially there Loard, or that's what her sister had told her of them.

Ada watched him take a step closer, she scooted on her bottom away from him "stay away from me! I will tend to myself! so just leave!"

She heard a deep growl come from his scowling face "then start tending to yourself for I'm not leaving you like this" he said and went to lean against a tree trunk.

She couldn't let him watch, then he would know she is a Airmid Cureblood, the last of her kind. She had been young when her adopted mum told her and her sister of her bloodline. She had night haunts of her whole clan cutting her, taking her blood, drinking it, even though her mum told her no one from there clan dare hurt her or her sister, so after a few summers she learned who could be trusted and how to help without her blood making the ones she helped blood crazed, but only to those she trusted.

This brute highlander wasn't one of those.

She heard a faint whinny in the moon lit forests and spotted her horse behind him "CAT! Come here big boy" she said then whistled. The horse reared and trotted pasted him to stand in front of me.

She heard him snicker "Your horses name is cat? You couldn't come up with something tougher or at least manlier?"

Ada glared at him through the pain of grabbing the reins to pull herself to her feet.

She felt her stomach tighten with pain when she straightened, forcing her bend at the waist "he has a very fine, one of a kind name, now leave so I may be off."

The demon named kalum laughed then crossed his arms "if you can mount that horse and ride away ill let you leave but if you cannot I will pick you up to take you to our healer."

Cocky bastard, I feel sorry for his wife. If he had one. Not that I care if he has one. Who would want a cocky man as a husband, not me?

"Fine, you have a bargain" I just need to ride far enough to get out of site then I can heal.

She heard him walk from the tree to walk around behind CAT to get a better look at her struggling, beast.

"Why are you dressed so strangely? Are you playing as a Lad?" he asked.

She felt his eyes rank down her form, to her protruding bottom, she moved to the side to look at him, her face red, hopefully he couldn't tell with CAT shadowing her from the moons rays "A LAD!! I DO NOT LOOK LIKE A LAD! WHAT LAD DO YOU KNOW THAT WEARS THESE COLORS?" she calmed down with a huff "not that its any of your business but I distaste gowns and skirts. They are uncomfortable and get in the way. So, I started sewing my own garments so I can ride and fight without tripping over miles of cloth."

"You fight? But you're an wee lass to be on the battle field, though I'll give you marks for your hand fighting, but what other possible danger could you be?" he remarked with a grin as he rubbed his nose.

"Once again not that it's any of your affair but I've been trained with all weapons, even tree branches that lay on the ground so I can defend myself against bruiting men, now will you be quiet so I can mount" she snapped.

"Very well lass, tell me your name and I shall be silent. At least until I win the bargain" he said.

"I'm not revealing my name to a demon, who knows what curses you could put on me with my name, now be silent" I shouted trying to straighten a wee more just to see if the pain was manageable enough to mount.

Nope

Nope

Too much pain!

Damnation! Weakling!

She tried to lift her leg but another stab of pain shot through her gut, causing her to lower it.

"If I guess it will you tell me if I'm in the right" his amused voice a little farther away behind her then before.

" No " I can't mount like this, the pain with make me faint.

"Minx? Red? Rowe? Etta?"

I looked back at him and sow a glow on his face as if he had already won and was just waiting to swoop her up.

I'll take that smile away cocky beast.

She sucked in a long breath and straightened as much as she could without feeling light headed and brightly, sweetly smiled at him, which he lowered his eyebrows at in suspicion.

I whistled twice in a row and cocked my head toward CAT smugly and watched him lower to the ground in a lay. Low enough for her to mount without much effort.

She turned to him one last time "CAT got your tongue?" she said, smile then turned to slide up her leg gently over the horses back.

"You won't get far like that, what is your problem woman! I'm trying to help you, don't be dim witted!" he shouted from behind her.

"Don't fuss because I'm more clever, kalum" her heart fluttered at the use of his name "Just live with it, now thank you for helping me good bye." She whistled twice again and the jar of CATs body rising forced her to bend forward then straighten out, with a curse I saw spots of light then as darkness swallowed me I felt myself fall into his arms.
